When looking at capable 308 battle rifles, it’s hard to ignore the M1A line of rifles. The M1A line has had various models throughout the years, but as a whole, has been a real contender in the 308 market for as long as I can remember. Of course, there are newer AR10 variants that offer easier controls and more capacity, but is the M1A still a real contender in the battle rifle market? When I first purchased the firearm from Springfield Armory, that’s exactly the question I set out to answer. Let’s take a closer look at the Springfield Armory M1A Scout Squad Rifle.

One of the most hotly anticipated 10/22 accessories from SHOT Show is finally shipping from Desert Tech. Desert Tech officially announced that pre-ordered Trek-22 units had begun leaving the facility on June 16th and that additional orders would also be accepted as production ramps up. JP Rifles introduced their ASF-20 Ambidextrous AR-15 Billet Lower Receiver in 2020, and it somehow slipped past the lidless eye of TFB. Ambidextrous, or ambi AR-15 lower receivers have been cropping up in recent years, which give shooters more flexibility in manipulating their rifle controls without having to shift the rifle to one side or another, or awkwardly reposition one’s hand regardless of which shoulder the rifle is up against. The primary benefits of ambi controls on an AR-15 would be for users that need to maneuver tight spaces, and thus change which shoulder they fire from, or to have a shared defensive rifle being used by left and right handed people. Love it or hate it, the Browning BAR Mk3 is still alive and kicking. The fairly simple multi-purpose semi-auto rifle is a popular choice for a lot of hunters and firearms enthusiasts and while it may not be the first BAR from Browning that comes to mind when you hear its name, it is at least more widely available. Infitech has just announced the addition of a new freefloated handguard for the Browning BAR Mk3 DBM rifle that still allows for gas block adjustments, and completely covers most of the barrel giving it a unique look for a 308 rifle. The Infitech Browning BAR Mk3 DBM Freefloated Handguard is available now for pre-order before units start shipping toward the end of the month.

CMMG have introduced a new line of PDW firearms dubbed Dissent. CMMG Dissent utilizes the company’s new patent-pending Compact Action in which the reciprocating action parts are contained within the upper receiver eliminating the need for a stock with a buffer/recoil spring mechanism inside it. According to the company, this is the shortest, most stowable Personal Defense Weapon that CMMG has built to date. Let’s take a closer look at the new CMMG Dissent PDWs.

B5 Systems is an American company that is focused on engineering military and aerospace solutions. Most of their firearms products focus on rifles and their current product lineup features common parts like trigger guards, QD end plates, handguards, and stocks. In a recent announcement, B5 happily shared that their Collapsible Precision Stock had been selected by the US Army’s Advanced Sniper Accessory Kit that provides upgrades for the Knights Armament M110 Rifle.

Springfield Armory is known for a bevy of new firearms in the news as of late. They surprisingly brought to market a bullpup in the Hellion, they now are crafting bolt-action rifles with their Waypoint, and even have one of the hottest selling CCW pistols on the market with the Hellcat. Let’s not forget that they make the iconic M1A rifle as well. In fact, they recently have debuted a new Desert FDE M1A in a standard and Scout Squad configuration as an NBS-exclusive offering.

In this episode of TFB Showtime, Hop checks out Anderson Manufacturing’s new Gen 2 big-bore AR platform. The AM-10 Gen 2 is available in three barrel lengths, with receivers and barrels made in-house, and Magpul furniture as standard.

FN America will be displaying MultiCam SCARs at the 151st NRA Annual Meeting. The rifles are the same as usual – SCAR 16S, 17S and the 20S commercial variants – with Crye Precision’s original MultiCam pattern applied hydrographically to the receiver and the trigger module frame.

FN America have announced the introduction of their new FN 15 DMR3 rifles. Chambered in 5.56x45mm, the new DMR3 has an 18-inch hybrid profile barrel with a 1:8 twist and is available in matte black anodized, factory Cerakote flat dark earth (FDE) or tungsten gray finishes. The rifle comes with a Geissele two-stage G2S trigger and SureFire ProComp muzzle brake.

Luth-AR has released a new chassis for the Ruger 10/22 and its clone actions. The new chassis is called MCA-22 (MCA stands for Modular Chassis Assembly). According to the company, this chassis is great for casual plinking, Tactical 22 matches, Steel Challenge, Practical Rimfire Challenge matches, or getting started in NRL22 competitions. Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is all about the rimfire firearm world and its various guns, gear, ammunition, and sports! Last week we took a look at the much loved CCI Velocitor 40-grain 22LR cartridge to assess its efficacy as a self-defense cartridge when being fired out of a pistol. What we saw and what many of you could have guessed is that the hypervelocity 40-grain hollow points didn’t really perform all that well out of the shorter barrels, but once up to speed out of the longer barrel of my Ruger 10/22, they expanded aggressively and also penetrated to an adequate depth! Interesting stuff! Speaking of Ruger firearms, I recently came across this interesting upper for the MKIV pistol manufactured by MaddMacs Precision Tactical LLC – the MK4 Carbine. I’ve always dreamed of working out a way to turn my MKIV pistol into a lightweight carbine and while there might be some hokey homemade options out there, this is the first time I’ve seen one made by a reputable manufacturing company and it looks not only well made but opens up a lot of possibilities to turn your MKIV pistol into a more well rounded and lightweight backpack gun. Today we’ll be checking out the features of this upper and make a few comments on its design and how I think it could be used in various applications.

The legendary 10/22 has just received three new short barrel offerings from Faxon Firearms with the release of the new Faxon Rimfire lineup of barrels. These three new offerings to their already existing rimfire rifle barrel lineup all have fluted designs, threaded muzzles, and are all made from 416R stainless steel. The 10/22 has been a favorite firearm of mine since I was young and decades later I’m happy to see that new and interesting aftermarket parts continue to be offered for this robust rimfire semi-auto rifle.

This $150 piece of kit is a popular aftermarket option for Ruger PC carbine owners as it takes the rather large footprint of the 9mm carbine and allows it to be neatly stowed in a small bag and even includes accommodation for storing a single pistol magazine.
