The Baghdad (Simonov-Iraqi): Iraq's First Mass-Produced Service Rifle?

The Baghdad is a little known about rifle that is still extremely rare to come across both in the United States and even in Iraq. There are definitely more questions than answers when it comes to what we actually know about the rifle:
It appears to have been built using the same machines and tooling as the Rasheed carbine production line. The ‘machine chatter’ as Scott mentions
The rifle has stamped years of production from 1969 to 1977.
There are a number of Egyptian Rasheed carbines that have Baghdad safety toggle blocks.
Differences between the Baghdad and the Rasheed are the buttplate cleaning kit cavity, apparently a slightly different choice of wood for the stock.
Some of the stamping font has been different from rifle years, other times instead of showing an Iraqi acceptance mark there is an eagle of Saladin.

Rimfire Tommy Gun Designed by TFB Reader Mike Johnson

A couple of weeks ago, we published an article telling about the release of the  Standard Manufacturing G4S rimfire rifle. Despite its modern look, the design elements of this rifle indicate that it is likely based on the Standard Manufacturing 1922, a scaled-down semi-auto rimfire replica of the Thompson submachine gun. This started a discussion about Thompson SMG replicas in the comments section of that article and one of our readers, Mike Johnson, posted the above-embedded picture and commented: “I wanted a Tommy gun in .22lr, so I made my own. This is what Thompson or Standard Manufacturing should have made. It uses 10/22 fire control and magazines“. It looked really interesting and intriguing both to this author and many TFB readers, so I asked Mike to share more details and pictures of the project and to give permission of using the information for writing an article about his rimfire Tommy gun. Mike kindly agreed, and today we’ll see how exactly he designed and built this hot gat.

The Rimfire Report: The 3 Best Accessories/Mods to Add to Your 10/22

Hello and welcome back to another edition of  The Rimfire Report! This series is all about rimfire firearms, ammunition, sports, and pretty much everything else rimfire-related. While it may not be the most accurate, the lightest, or maybe even the coolest, the humble 10/22 is an almost ubiquitous firearm in the gun community for its popularity alone. Today we’ll be going over my 3 best accessories/mods for your 10/22 rifle, carbine, or pistol.

Standard Manufacturing G4S Semi-Auto Rimfire Rifle

Standard Manufacturing has announced a new semi-automatic rimfire rifle called G4S. The company states that their new rifle is “the ultimate in semiautomatic rifles chambered in .22LR” and adds that it is “ideally suited for plinking and precision shooting“. Judging by the receiver shape, location of the charging handle and the design of other elements of this rifle, I think the G4S is likely based on the Standard Manufacturing 1922, a scaled-down rimfire replica of the Thompson submachine gun.

Egyptian Hakim Service Rifle: Crushing Thumbs Since 1956

The Egyptian Hakim service rifle was a license-produced version of the Swedish 6.5mm Ljungman AG-42 semiautomatic gas impingement rifle. Egypt changed several features such as the grasping grooves, a removable muzzle brake, an adjustable gas system, and no cleaning rod. Some references will state that the Hakim was used in the 1956 Suez Crisis, however, upon review of available serial numbers on the current market, it appears that less than a few thousand Hakim rifles even existed in 1956. From observations of archival media from the war it appears that Egypt had a much great stock of Soviet SKS carbines and Czech Vz.52 rifles from the 1955 Czech Arms Deal which rippled across the Middle East as one of the largest arms deals in the region during that time period.

The Uncommon Yet Influential AR-180 – My Favorite Armalite

One lazy afternoon in the gun shop I was killing time browsing the local gun classifieds when I finally found the gun I had been seeking since middle school: an Armalite AR-180. TFB Review: Heckler & Koch MR556A1

Built around the legendary HK416 platform, the Heckler & Koch MR556A1 is the newest variant available to the commercial market.  This newest model carries over tried and true features like HK’s short-stroke gas piston system with some new refinements like an M-LOK rail.  Built using a combination of both German and American parts I was curious to see how this new variant performed. H&K was kind enough to send over this review MR556A1 with an EOTech VUDU 1-6 in their new mount.

The Zastava M90 is chambered in 5.56x45mm – the same round as the AR-15 – but has several other differences from the Zastava M70, including a three-position selectable gas regulator, a longer 18.25-inch barrel, a Magpul Zhukov folding stock and a Hogue rubber foregrip, and a modified gas piston. While versions of the M90 have been imported in the past, most often, these were modified by importers and often of so-so quality. This M90 will be the real deal – 100% Zastava. Could this be one of the best AKs in the US market today? Would James buy it?

ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS: 1874 Sharps Rifle, M1 Carbine Paratrooper and More

As I get older and the world changes in so many ways, one thing that thankfully always feels the same to me is Christmas and the holiday season in general. Whether it is decorating the tree or chatting with my family, there is always something that makes me think back to when I was younger and Santa was a thing. I remember the top three things on my list as a kid; a Daisy Red Ryder bb gun, a plasma ball, and a paintball gun. Santa only felt like a Red Ryder was good enough so that is what I ended up with and as beat to crap, as it is, I still have it and cherish it as much as the day I opened it up.
