The .17HMR is one of my favorite rimfire calibers. The hot 17 caliber rimfire cartridge is both supremely accurate, and light recoiling making it a good step up from .22LR in terms of both inherent accuracy and range. Bear Creek Arsenal is following up the success of their .22WMR AR-15 upper with the release of the new BC-15 17HMR Billet Upper Receiver to give rimfire enthusiasts access to yet another popular rimfire cartridge that they can plink, hunt, or target shoot with by simply slapping it on an AR-15 lower receiver.

During the ARMY 2022 exhibition, Kalashnikov Concern unveiled a number of new firearms, both for the military/LE and civilian markets. Among the new guns are two rifles chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO / .308 Winchester – the AKV-721 and AK-308. Let’s take a look at each of these new firearms.

There’s a limited edition LWRC/OTG IC-A5 Bazooka Green rifle incoming. The setup was featured in the video “Urban Combat Survival CQB and Room Clearing” made by Garand Thumb and Orion Training Group. Manufactured by LWRC, this 5.56 rifle is only going to be available through Louisiana Firearms,  LLC. The price is $2,880.

In this episode of TFBTV, James Reeves is at Zastava USA to discuss the new import of the Zastava M77 rifle. This .308 rifle is very similar to Zastava’s flagship M70 AK-type rifle and almost identical to the Zastava M90 .223 rifle, with a few differences other than the obvious caliber difference. Note that per the video, furniture that works with the M70 and M90 should also work with the M77. Zastava now offers three calibers of AK to the US civilian market, including 5.56/223, and of course 7.62×39. Bear Creek Arsenal has rapidly expanded its available rifle and pistol lineup for the American firearms enthusiast. In their latest newsletter, they announced they would introduce three new lines of AR platform rifles to help shooters find something that will fit their needs. These new lines will include the all-around Fieldmaster, the long-range oriented Targetmaster, and the Huntmaster – I’ll let you guess what that one is marketed for. More details on each new AR platform line are down below.

Back in 2020, Rifle Dynamics and Thunder Ranch introduced the Thunder Ranch AK, a rifle made to Clint Smith’s specifications. Hello and welcome to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is all about the rimfire firearm world and its many guns, sports, ammunition, and trends. Last week, we talked about the new Fletcher Rifle Works Bandera OpenTop 11/22 pistol. Since that article was posted, I’ve had the opportunity to take it to the range a few more times and thus far it has held up quite well on the reliability side of things and the pistol really has been a joy to shoot – I will be sad to see it go when I send it back to Mr. Fletcher! In that same vein, part of why I like the 10/22 platform so much is due to the sheer amount of customization options you have on the market for it. I recently stumbled upon a new limited edition conversion kit for the Ruger 10/22 rifles designed by RSM Firearms. Dubbed the MINI-50, this conversion kit takes your standard 10/22 rifle and fits it into a nice new mini Barrett M82A1 skin suit.

It seems that 2022 is bringing back the heat regarding AR10 rifles. Type-A Rifle Co/BG Defense joins the fray with their new Ambi Billet AR10 line of rifles. The new line of Type-A rifles will come with the same high-end components and construction that Type-A is well known for. Type-A is also proud to announce that most of the components in the new Ambi Billet AR10 rifle lineup will be made in-house from their facility in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Brownells and Sons of Liberty Gun Works (SOLGW) have teamed up to introduce an AR-15 parts kit called  M4-EXO3 Rifle Build Kit. This kit is made by SOLGW and will be available only through Brownells. It includes everything needed to assemble an AR-15 with the exception of the lower receiver.

A true defensive “fighting” carbine needs to be compact, lightweight, accurate, and reliable to fill its role in the armory. Any equipment added to the carbine’s system should be an important capability of the system without dramatically impacting overall functionality. When it comes to suppressors, I believe that short and light models that are as gas-neutral as possible are the best choice for the AR-15. It seems that the new 3D-printed HUXWRX FLOW 556K has found the sweet spot between suppression and system integration.

Wolfpack Armory has announced that their WP47 pistol is now available for preorder. The Wolfpack Armory WP47 is an AK magazine fed AR style hybrid firearm chambered in 7.62x39mm. Let’s see what features Wolfpack has packed in this gat.

Judging by the amount of new AR-10 pattern firearms released by American companies lately, I think it is safe to say that this is currently one of the most booming market segments in the industry. Joining the many other AR-10 style rifles and pistols introduced this year is the new Trojan Firearms TROY rifle available in .308 Winchester and 6.5 Creedmoor chamberings. Let’s take a closer look.

Anderson Manufacturing introduced the second generation of their  AM-10 .308 Win guns at NRAAM 2022. Initially, this product line consisted of three rifles – Battle Rifle, Ranger and Marksman XL. A couple of days ago, the company announced the addition of a new member to the AM-10 family of firearms, the AM-10 Gen2 Breacher pistol.

Faxon Firearms has just announced the introduction of two new rifles to their Summit Sentinel lineup of AR-10 pattern firearms. The new Faxon Sentinel rifles are chambered in .308 Winchester and 6.5 Creedmoor. Both new rifles will retail for just under $2,000 and come standard with billet aluminum receivers, heavy fluted barrels, Faxon M-LOK handguards, and ambidextrous controls.

The SIG Sauer MCX Virtus has been an extremely configurable and popular 5.56 rifle that really scratches that itch for those who want something other than a standard AR-15. However, when it comes time to do maintenance on the Virtus, many users have complained that when shooting from a barrier or other supported position, the handguard would flex significantly causing your attached laser device to lose zero even when minor pressure is being applied. The new patent pending Arisaka Zero Retention Clamp (ZRC) greatly reduces zero shift to lasers and handguard mounted iron sights with this version being specifically designed for the MCX Virtus equipped with either the SIG Sauer SD handguard or Midwest Industries Suppressor M-LOK handguard.

It was time for an upgrade – that’s simply why Stag Arms decided to upgrade their Stag 15 Tactical rifle line. Last February my FFL acquired a large estate sale of firearms. Most of them were mundane Girsans, Bersas, and PSA lowers. There are other guns but the Keltec SU16 box piqued my interest. This is where I discovered the fugliest bullpup. When we opened the box, this abomination was lurking inside. We were so confused by what we saw. I looked at it more closely and decided I should adopt this SU16 bullpup and share it with the world.

At SHOT Show 2022, Faxon Firearm in collaboration with Q LLC introduced bolt action and semi-auto firearms chambered in 8.6 Blackout. The 8.6BLK is a .338 caliber cartridge developed by Q and Faxon designed the guns chambered in this cartridge, more importantly, they were able to make barrels with an extremely fast twist rate of 1:3″ required to stabilize the heavy 300-grain bullets of subsonic 8.6BLK loads. Faxon Firearms has recently announced that their Sentinel series of AR-10 pattern semi-auto rifles chambered in 8.6 Blackout is now available for preorder.

In today’s rifle market, there are endless variants of the beloved AR-15. There’s a good reason the AR-15 is so popular and considered America’s Rifle with its ergonomics and accuracy along with reliability. The problem is once you own a few, they become fairly common and lately, that’s where I’ve been.
