Welcome everyone to the 108th edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. The Rimfire Report: An Ode to the Remington Nylon 66

Welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is all about the rimfire world and its various firearms, ammunition, and trends. This week I want to talk to you guys about one of the most legendary .22LR rifles ever to hit the market. Many of you will be familiar with this one because for many of you it was probably your first experience with a firearm or maybe even more specifically a semi-automatic .22LR firearm. The Remington Nylon 66 was one of the most prolific rimfire firearms produced by the Remington Arms Company and featured a futuristic design (for the time) and throughout its life saw many variants produced. With how popular the Nylon 66 was with the firearms division of Remington Arms under new ownership, I have to wonder if anyone will give the legendary rifle new life or if customers are still happy with the Model 597.

The Delta/Gordon Carbine – A True Modern Classic

There’s a saying that says what old is new, and the popularity of fixed carry handle rifles have made a roaring resurgence whether it’s nostalgia or space for collectors to build something different from the ordinary sea of flat top ARs with an MLOK handguard. One of the most iconic is the Gordon Carbine and 90s era Delta rifles. Now some people are die-hard clone builders and that’s awesome, but the 90s Delta rifles are a style of their own. This summer, I decided to take a deeper look into the Delta-style rifles and build an AR that wouldn’t be out of place in the delta world during the 1990s. Let’s take a dive into the Delta and Gordon Carbine which has truly become a modern-day classic.

Escape From Bondage: Un-Californiaizing My AR-15 Part 3

Hello again, and welcome to Part 3 of my escape from bondage. This is it. Return of the Jedi. Mockingjay. FDR’s last complete term as President of the United States. This is the third and final installation in the series. If you haven’t read the previous two articles, you can find Part 1 here, and Part 2 here. We left off having completed both the upper and lower halves of the rifle. At this point, we’ve accomplished our goal. This rifle is a far cry from the abomination it once was, but I’m still not ready to call it quits, and I don’t think you are either.

NYPD Busts Ninja Turtle Hideout and Confiscates Weapons

In a recent search warrant executed by the 114th Precinct of the New York Police Department, several weapons, ammunition, and body armor were confiscated and the suspects arrested and charged with criminal possession of weapons. While this may be a frequent occurrence across the nation for police departments, what caught my eye with this snippet from the NYPD Instagram page was the grouping of novelty knives and non-firearms that were confiscated which made this search warrant look more like a raid on the Ninja Turtles hideout rather than a routine warrant execution.

TFB Review: Ruger Custom Shop Left-Handed 10/22

It’s rough being a lefty in the gun world. I mean, you get used to it, but still. Gas in your face, the controls of 90% of guns are on the wrong side, and don’t even get me started on the price of ambidextrous accessories. So when Ruger approached TFB and asked if anyone wanted to review a left-handed 10/22 from the Ruger custom shop, I jumped at the offer.

TFB Review: SIG SAUER M400 Tread Predator

SIG SAUER first introduced their M400 series over a decade ago, with the initial version’s release in 2010. The M400 concept was meant to be SIG’s entry into the world of budget-friendly AR-15s. These guns differ from SIG’s pricier rifles like the MCX Virtus Patrol, which is a piston-driven platform, and fall more closely in line with the direct impingement operation that has become generally accepted as “standard” for ARs. Until recently, the series’ current models covered the basics: a regular 16″-barrelled rifle, an 11.5″ pistol, and an upscaled rifle variant that came with some factory upgrades, like an optic and flat trigger. There is also a large-frame cousin, the 716i Tread. This AR-10 shares most of its DNA with the above 5.56 models, but is chambered in 7.62 instead. Never a company to rest on its laurels, SIG is now expanding the M400 family with two new models announced in 2021: the Switchblade (to be covered soon) and the Predator, which I’ve spent the last few months getting to know.

The New Grey Birch Solutions Fusion Receiver System

Ruger 10/22 has been a faithful companion for many shooters for decades and has more or less remained in the same configuration since its initial introduction. For those who don’t know, the 10/22 uses a V-block to secure the barrel to the receiver and keep it under the proper amount of tension. Sometimes this block can come loose and allow the barrel to sag and cause issues with accuracy. Grey Birch Solutions has introduced their new Fusion Receiver System (FRS) which features a new approach to a 10/22 barrel and action.

Interview with SIG 550 Series Importer Dave Wagner

The SIG 550 series is, at least for Americans, an uncommon but desirable carbine, and shrouded in mystery. These guns are hard to find, expensive when you do find them, and because most of the ownership and the history relative to the SIG 550-series originates in Europe, even knowledgeable shooters and collectors in the United States know very little about these guns.

The Rimfire Report: The Pike Arms Gatling Gun Kit for Ruger 10/22 Rifles

Hello and welcome back to another edition of  The Rimfire Report! The Rimfire Report is all about the various firearms, ammunition, modifications, and history of the rimfire firearm world. This week we’ll be talking about an idea that goes as far back as 1861 with the original invention of the Gatling gun by North Carolina’s own Richard Jordan Gatling – inventor of the Gatling gun. The Gatling gun was the fevered dream of the American inventor that eventually resulted in decade after decade of improvement eventually giving us the modern electrically-driven M134 Minigun, M61 Vulcan, and GAU-8 Avenger. While owning a full-auto Gatling gun is a difficult thing to achieve for multiple reasons, hand-cranked Gatling guns are fairly easy to come by and far less expensive. Our rimfire example of this for today is the Pike Arms Gatling Gun Kit. The Pike Arms Gatling Gun Kit is a DIY modification that allows you to turn two 10/22 rifles into a hand-cranked high-volume fire rig using only commonly available household hand tools.
