Christmas is always a wonderful time for giving back, spending time with loved ones, and thinking way too much about what you’d REALLY like from Santa. This year I decided it was time to dream just a little bit bigger. How big? We’re talking a .50 BMG  GM6 Lynx big.

Sport Systeme Dittrich (SSD) is a German company specialized in making reproductions of historical German firearms. Besides that, they also make modernized versions of the legendary WW2 German paratrooper rifle, the FG-42. The SSD’s modernized FG-42s feature a number of upgrades such as railed handguards, modern pistol grips, muzzle devices, new finish, etc. They currently have two models ( SG11 and SG12) chambered in .308 Win and a prototype model ( SG13) that will most definitely break the hearts of purists as it is not only an FG-42 that has been fitted with modern parts but also is chambered in  7.62x54mmR and is fed from SVD magazines.

Sitting on Santa’s lap as an adult is a completely different experience from when you were a young kid. Back then you had no money, completely dependent on your parents for any sort of commercially available goods and services. As a grown-up, you have the means and ability to save your cash and (eventually) buy the things you want. So, for me, bending the Big Man’s ear is all about semi-realistic hopes and dreams. I’m not swinging for the fences asking for a transferable MP5, a 10K of ammo or a Dillon Aero minigun. All I want for Christmas is an FN M249S, an H&K MK23 with a KAC suppressor and an LMT M203 40mm grenade launcher. Now that I think about it, my mid-life Christmas list is almost identical to the list I had in elementary school.

Further increasing the modularity and adaptability of the Ruger 10/22 platform, Rival Arms of Dallas Texas has recently unveiled their new Billet Aluminum R-22 chassis. The R-22 promises to take your standard 10/22 rifle and turn it into a serious “precision plinking machine.” This goes along with their recent release of the R-700 chassis for the Remmington 700 series of rifles.

Well, everyone, they did it! Smith & Wesson has brought back a version of the M&P15-22 Pistol and this time it has a heck of a lot of new life breathed into it. Previously Smith & Wesson had offered an M&P15-22 pistol variant that did not have an arm brace. This offering was unfortunately discontinued but in a world where AR15 platform pistols are such a hot item how could it not come back and new and improved nonetheless! Let’s dive right in!

As a big fan of anything Smith & Wesson and especially an admirer of their excellent customer service, I am pleased to bring to your attention their newest .223/5.56 M&P AR15 offering. The brand new M&P15 Pistol! Smith & Wesson has a long lineup of AR15 firearms but this is the very first pistol offering. At the moment it seems like this one is solely .223/5.56. Zenith Firearms is a family-owned company based in Afton, Virginia. I remember them clearly from my last SHOT Show visit, where one of their employees took a lot of time and effort to show me around and explain their products. I appreciated that, a lot.

TFB has written a lot about the German manufacturer C.G. Haenel lately, but the dust seems to have settled a little. First, they won the tender for Germany’s next army weapon, then they didn’t. It’s all quite confusing even for those who are trying to keep up on a daily basis, but in this article, we’re going to forget all about that and focus on one of their new products. After all, the company is probably most known as a supplier of the G29 sniper rifle for the German Army. It’s called the Haenel RS9 and chambered in .338 Lapua Magnum.

This week I’d like to take a closer look at those all important three lugs that attach some suppressors to submachine guns and pistol caliber carbines. Probably the most well known of the quick detach mounting solutions in the silencer world, the three lug system has been incorporated into pistol caliber cans by almost every manufacturer. It’s October, and it’s time for the fourth Geissele ICON rifle. This one is red metallic and inspired by the World War II memoir of the United States Marine Eugene Sledge, based on the notes he kept tucked away in a pocket-sized Bible which he carried with him during battles at Peleliu and Okinawa.

Brandon Herrera started The AK Guy several years ago and embarked upon a crazy idea, that of making a .50 BMG Kalashnikov rifle. The AK50 is still yet to come to fruition but what is really fascinating is the journey that Brandon took and all the trials and errors that happened along the way. Initially starting with CAD designs and eventually morphing into several prototypes, his experience is one that everyone can learn from.

The list of Non-Restricted Firearms in Canada continues to surprise. About a month ago we had the Chinese Type 81 LMG in Canada, and now it’s time for the legendary Heckler & Koch G36. These are sold by Tactical Imports Corp. (Mississauga, Ontario) and come with either a Match Grade barrel from Lothar Walther or HK original barrel (sold out, despite the additional $2,000).

ODIN Works is well known for making all kinds of firearm parts and accessories with a primary focus on the AR-15 platform. However, they never had a complete AR-pattern rifle in their catalog. Well, they’ve just fixed that by introducing the ODIN Tactical Rifle (OTR15) – a complete AR made by ODIN Works. Let’s see what features they offer in the OTR15 rifle.

The popularity of pistol caliber carbines hasn’t slowed down at all. More and more manufacturers have been adding ready-to-go competition PCC’s to their lineups. MasterPiece Arms (MPA) is the latest. While they are best known to me for their bolt guns, many users of their firearms know them for their breadth of options. The newest of those options is the MPA AR9 PCC.

My first exposure to Battle Arms Development’s OIP project was at SHOT 2019.  It’s one thing to read press releases, it’s another thing entirely to test fire an example of a gun.  Personally, I couldn’t believe both the light (3.8lbs) weight of the OIP2 rifle and the fact that the rifle didn’t have a corresponding increase in recoil. Duly impressed, I decided to save up for an OIP 2 rifle of my own.

On October 22, the 10/22 day, a South Carolina company called Wiland USA released a chassis for the ever-popular Ruger 10/22 rimfire rifle. This new chassis is called MLCS-11 which stands for Modular Lightweight Chassis System. Apparently, it is primarily aimed to the rimfire competition shooting community, however, I think anyone who wants to add modularity and modern ergonomics to the humble 10/22, will find it interesting, too. Let’s see what features the new Wiland USA MLCS-11 Ruger 10/22 chassis packs.

The Dead Air Wolfman is an excellent suppressor that is both wipe-capable and modular allowing the user to configure their suppressor for the host of the day (host du jour). It’s on the pricier side as 9mm silencers go, however you do get what you pay for – a quality setup that is basically two cans in one.

As I had mentioned in my Suppressing the Springfield Armory M1A Tanker 308 Rifle article, when the stars align you have to go for it. The same applies to the situation I was in when two review guns I had on the wishlist dropped at my feet. One being the Springfield Armory Saint Victor .308 Pistol for an AllOutdoor review and the other being the Springfield Armory M1A Tanker 308 Rifle for a TFB review. Two guns that could potentially have the same role as a ranch rifle, a truck gun, and an overall handy tool. I thought it would be a lot of fun to go over attributes that may affect a person’s decision to include one of these two in their arsenal.

The Swiss company B&T has developed a new family of modular and hybrid semi-automatic carbines. Their name is SPC9 and they are chambered in  9×19 mm. To best describe it, you could say that it combines a B&T APC9 with a Heckler & Koch MP5 and an AR15. On top of that, various models also accepts either Glock or SIG magazines.

Red Arrow Weapons is a newcomer to the AR world. Those of you who watch the Outdoor Channel may recognize the Red Arrow name from the hunting TV show on that network that bears the same moniker. The show’s host, Kip Campbell, and his television production company, Shotfish Productions, have been putting the show on since 2007. Last year, Campbell launched a new company centered around AR-platform firearms built to his specifications. Red Arrow Weapons now offers guns in .223/5.56, 300BLK, 6.5 Creed, and the subject of their recent press release, the .308 RAW10. This 18″-barrelled rifle is Campbell’s take on the AR-10. The Bergara BXR is a precision-oriented clone of the Ruger 10/22 available with a fluted steel barrel, or carbon fiber wrapped barrel. The BXR promises to deliver the match accuracy of an expensive custom rimfire rifle, for the price of a slightly less expensive custom rimfire rifle.

The Danish Armed Forces have selected Colt Canada C20 Designated Marksman Rifle (DMR) in 7.62×51 mm as their new sniper rifle. The C20 DMR is intended to replace the current Heckler & Koch  HK417S (Sniper). The Danish name will be Finskyttegevaer, Kort (FINSKGV K). Roughly translated it means “fine shooting rifle, short”, and it will be introduced from the first quarter of 2021.

When the stars align you have to go for it. That was my thought when several review items and connections fell pleasantly into place. Along with that, there was encouragement at the idea of something not entirely difficult but somewhat time-consuming. I am referring to when a Springfield Armory M1A Tanker 308 Rifle, a Silencer Central Banish 30, and some friendly ties to Delta P Design were all that I needed to have an experience that not many people would. Today I am very excited to retell my exposure to suppressing the Springfield Armory M1A Tanker. Let us hop down the rabbit hole!

I have to admit that I am a sucker for nostalgia and even tributes to nostalgia. I had the honor to review and handle a piece of history in that of the M1A action and also the comfort and maneuverability of a shorter barrel and compact and sturdy stock. I of course am referring to the obvious 308 elephant in the article, the Springfield Armory M1A Tanker 308 Rifle.
