Concealed Carry Corner: Offensive vs Defensive Protection

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to head back down to the Academy training center to take a pistol barricade course from legendary trainer Ric Sutton. After the first day of the course, we ended up all going out to the local Mexican restaurant to just have dinner and chat about the course and shooting in general. We started getting into the difference between defensive shooting and offensive self-defense which doesn’t get talked about much in the mainstream gun community. Let’s take a closer look at offensive vs defensive protection.

Why not spring some money for a better solution? A range bag that carries everything you need including that Snickers bar so you are never hungry. TFB Review: Springfield Armory M1A Scout Squad Rifle

When looking at capable 308 battle rifles, it’s hard to ignore the M1A line of rifles. The M1A line has had various models throughout the years, but as a whole, has been a real contender in the 308 market for as long as I can remember. Of course, there are newer AR10 variants that offer easier controls and more capacity, but is the M1A still a real contender in the battle rifle market? When I first purchased the firearm from Springfield Armory, that’s exactly the question I set out to answer. Let’s take a closer look at the Springfield Armory M1A Scout Squad Rifle.

Concealed Carry Corner: "Good Enough" Gear

Every week I sit down and look at the number of topics I have written down for the Concealed Carry Corner articles. One thing that blows me away is seeing the vast differences between people willing to upgrade every aspect of their carry pistol on one end, and on the other people not spending money and continuing to use the same gear they have for years. These are two very different ways to look at carrying a concealed firearm but each attitude has its merits. Whatever side you agree with, it’s always interesting to look at what is considered good enough gear.

TFB Review: ANR Design's New Link Sling

Throughout my years of shooting, there’ve been a few things that people purchase a number of times before settling on the product that works best for them. Holsters are typically the item people think about but another shooting product that takes time to find are rifle slings as well. Throughout the years, I have gone through a number of slings and found a number of features I really like and some I dislike when it comes to a good rifle sling. The most recent purchase takes a number of features I like in slings and combined them into one modular unit. Let’s take a closer look at the ANR Design’s New Link Sling.

Concealed Carry Corner: Smaller Isn't Always Better

With summertime hitting the Northeast and Midwest states full force this week, there’s no better time to look at carrying smaller guns. Individuals who live in the great north have lost their security blanket of layered clothing and heavy coats with the rush of hot summer weather. For most, the general trend is to carry the smallest handgun possible in an effort to make carrying more comfortable. There’s no denying that carrying a smaller pistol does make life easier in the hot summer months, but there are also disadvantages to really small carry guns. Let’s take a closer look at why smaller isn’t always better when it comes to carrying a concealed firearm.

TFB Review: FirstSpear Wind Cheater and Halifax Jackets

Most shooters going to the range, tend to look at the weather report before hitting the range. Depending on how bad you have a gun addiction, you may fall into this category as well. For me, I’m like a gun crackhead looking for his fix and I will go to the range whether it’s rain or sunshine. I kept sinking more and more money into firearms because that’s my addiction, but after a few really miserable range sessions in the wind and rain, I started looking for some quality lightweight jackets I can throw on while I shoot. I decided to pick up a few different coats from FirstSpear and after a few months of owning them, I have finally had enough time with both to give a full review to you guys. Let’s take a closer look at the FirstSpear Wind Cheater and Halifax Jackets.

TFB B-Side Podcast: Hollywood Guns & Knives with TFB Writer John B

Hollywood has at best what I would call a tenuous relationship with the firearms industry. Much of the content that Hollywood puts out is often the inspiration for many potential young gun owners even if it’s not the intent. When I was a child, I distinctly remember wanting to have guns from specific movies like Terminator 2, Heat, and The Way of the Gun, just to name a few. However, despite the popularity of firearms on the silver screen, the attitude within the walls of many production studios and corporate board rooms remains negative towards guns as well as knives. To get an insider’s perspective on this odd dichotomy that resides within Hollywood we’re bringing on TFB Writer John B to talk a little bit about how guns and knives (Johns’s favorite subject) are viewed by people within the film industry. In addition to the main subject, this is also a good opportunity for the rest of you, readers here at TFB, to get to know the personality and background of John. Please welcome John B to the show!
