TFB Review: LFT Brokos Brace Hand Stop

In a market flooded with attachments and accessories for ARs, it’s hard to find pieces that make a difference. For years I was using Bravo Company’s KAG grip and overall it’s great value for the money. For $20, you get a fairly tough hand stop for your AR that can handle a fair amount of punishment without any issues. I was checking out a video online and saw an updated version of Dan Brokos’s hand stop and ultimately decided to order one. I’ve been using one for the last 3-4 months and figured it’s time to give it a proper shakedown. Let’s check out the LFT Brokos Brace Hand Stop from Dan Brokos of Lead Faucet Tactical.

Concealed Carry Corner: Weapon Accessories and Their Purpose

Over the last 6 months, there has been an explosion in new gun owners and people who decided to start carrying a concealed firearm. As a result, the amount of variety and stock of handguns in gun stores are limited and down from where they were before the lockdown. With the increased numbers of new handgun owners around, there’s been an increase in weapon accessories as well. There are plenty of people asking what they should put on their carry guns and what the best accessories are for them. Let’s dive into different weapon accessories and what are the best options for your specific needs.

Dry Fire in the 21st Century – Laser Training Cartridges

What with ammo prices the way they are, a topic that I’m sure is on everyone’s mind is how do you practice shooting without having to spend say, 50 cents per round for every round of 9mm that leaves your barrel? The standard answer has always been “dry fire”. Dry firing is great advice, but it doesn’t provide the level of feedback necessary to remain proficient. Nothing can replace actually shooting your guns, but you want to close that gap as far as possible, right? Enter the laser training cartridge. This nifty little gadget helps to fill some (but not all) of the gap between dry fire training and practical shooting.

Building a Better M9 Bayonet with Nate Summers

An M9 bayonet is commonly an unthought-of tool to most shooters without prior military service.  While bayonets have been used since the 17th century, in today’s world, it’s considered to be an ancillary weapon or a weapon of last resort.  As a result, a bayonet lug can often go unnoticed by gun buyers who often see it as just part of a front sight base. Common M9 bayonets are nothing extraordinary, and as such are often overlooked.  For me, that idea started to change when late last year I stumbled upon a pair of rare M9 pattern bayonets.  My interest piqued, an idea started to take hold.

Savior Equipment makes some really nice rifle cases. I have one of their 42″ double rifle cases and it is my primary rifle case for transporting rifles to the range. However, I have been looking for mobile firearm storage and recently discovered that Savior makes two racks, the Shorty Rifle Rack and Mobile Firearm Rack.

Suppressing the Springfield Armory M1A Tanker 308 Rifle

When the stars align you have to go for it. That was my thought when several review items and connections fell pleasantly into place. Along with that, there was encouragement at the idea of something not entirely difficult but somewhat time-consuming. I am referring to when a Springfield Armory M1A Tanker 308 Rifle, a Silencer Central Banish 30, and some friendly ties to Delta P Design were all that I needed to have an experience that not many people would. Today I am very excited to retell my exposure to suppressing the Springfield Armory M1A Tanker. Let us hop down the rabbit hole!

Concealed Carry Corner: Real-World Stress Training

Last week, I talked about the importance of one-handed shooting and practicing with both your support and dominant hand. There were a few great debates in the comment section and I loved how you guys digested that. I went to the range early Saturday morning with three close friends who are all experienced shooters and did one-handed drills. We added time and a bit of physical exertion into the mix and some strange things started to happen.

TFB Review: Wilson Combat HD/+P 1911 Magazines

Throughout my testing of the Buy vs Build 1911 series, I have come to realize there are various levels of quality 1911 magazines. I treat my 1911 magazines like modern polymer magazines and will let them drop freely onto the concrete while jamming a fresh mag in and keeping the lead onslaught continuous for the paper target bad guys.

TFB Review: The OTTE Gear Range Bag

When packing for the range, it can oftentimes become a real pain trying to fit all your gear into one or two bags when you have to take out multiple guns for long term testing without packing everything but the kitchen sink. About six months ago I started looking for a new range bag that wouldn’t scream tactical but would be big enough to take a good amount of gear with the ability to stay relatively small.

Concealed Carry Corner: Three Different Carry Bag Options

Last week, I wrote about various PDWs and there were a number of people asking about the Vertx bag I had in the background. I also had people ask about other types of carry bags that work well with carrying concealed for pistols and larger weapons as well. There are endless options for carrying and off-body carry. I can already hear the disdain from some of you, but its ok if people carry in different ways than you, trust me it’ll be ok. I’ll go through three different bags I’ve used but these are typically the three most popular styles of bags for concealed carriers. Let’s dive into three different carry bag options.

Concealed Carry Corner: The Good And Bad Of Carry Belts

When we have to carry for a long period of time, it’s sometimes fairly difficult to be comfortable after 8-10 hours of constant carrying. After a few hours of driving, it can sometimes cause discomfort or hot spots on your body. When this happens, oftentimes people will immediately jump to the type of pants you’re wearing or blame it on the holster after thinking of it. Both of these are possible to cause issues with sitting comfortably or wearing it all day, but the vast majority is not due to a Kydex or leather holster. The real culprit is typically the belt you’re carrying with, and it’s not always the easiest piece of gear to identify as an issue but let’s dive into the good and bad of carry belts.

AK-150 and Beyond – Ambazonia Develops New Arsenal

Since late 2017 a group of secessionists in Cameroon’s former British mandate located in the southwest have been fighting under the banner of a self-declared state named the Federal Republic of Ambazonia or Amber Land. Bordering Nigeria to the northwest and the majority French-speaking Cameroon Republic to the east, Ambazonia takes its name from Ambas Bay, the local name for the mouth of the Wouri River where in 1858 English was established as a permanent language. A peaceful movement for independence had been growing for decades which after widespread several strikes and protests culminated in the declaration of an independent Republic and armed struggle in November 2017. The Wolverine 5K – A Red Dawn Themed Tactical Race

Probably my favorite thing about the gun community as a whole is the way we can all come together and create some really fun events. A few months ago I heard about a local race in mid-Michigan that incorporates running, tactical shooting and long distance shooting to create a gun competition that’s very unique. Unfortunately, I found out too late and the race was already sold out but went up to Lake City, Michigan to check things out. I wanted to support a few buddies who were on a few of the competing teams. Let’s take a look at what the Wolverine 5K is all about and why it was started.

SHTF Guns: Heavy Metal – SCAR 17 and Glock 20

I don’t put a huge emphasis on being a prepper as part of my identity, but it’s just a reality of life living, farming and ranching in a more rural area.  Unfortunately, a lot of people nowadays are seeing what “SHTF” is in the context of pandemic related restrictions, supply chain disruptions, and unrest.  Rural areas are not immune to these impacts either.  When Pete posed the question to me at SHOT about “the one gun you could have”, it certainly got my wheels spinning.  My current reality allows me to select specific tools for specific firearm-related jobs.  If I just had to grab one or two and go, it’d be these tried and true and versatile firearms that I often turn to and am very confident in: The SCAR 17S and the Glock 20.
