Shortly after  Rossi’s release of the R95 30-30 lever action rifle, Midwest Industries introduced two modernization parts for this new lever gun: an M-LOK handguard and an Extended Sight System. The former is an open-top aluminum handguard with multiple M-LOK slots and a sling swivel stud. The Extended Sight System consists of a similar M-LOK handguard with a top Picatinny rail that extends back over the receiver and a set of iron sights. Rossi surprised a lot of firearm owners when they announced at SHOT Show 2023 that they were back and with a vengeance (my words, not Rossi’s) by debuting new revolvers that looked reminiscent of something from Smith & Wesson and/or Dan Wesson from years past. True Velocity, manufacturer of lightweight polymer-cased ammunition and weapons developer, have announced the acquisition of Oregon-based suppressor developer Delta P. Delta P specialise in 3D printed suppressor technology and previously partnered with True Velocity as part of their bid for the US Army’s Next Generation Squad Weapon program.

As tastes, technology, and applications change, the optics market continues to change. The Trijicon RMR has been around since 2009. Believe it or not, that’s almost 15 years ago. Fifteen years is a lifetime when it comes to tech, and in looking forward, many shooters have become closed-emitter curious. What a title for an article. In this edition of “Just Florida Things,” a woman was relaxing on the beach in Panama City, Florida when she was suddenly shot in the knee by a man who was cleaning sand out of his gun on a balcony above. The man, Damien Chhoeung, was arrested and his bail was set at $10,000. The woman who was shot was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. She is expected to make a full recovery.

Back in October 2022, the Australian Defence Force selected the SIG Sauer P320 XCarry Pro as their next sidearm. The P320 XCarry Pro will replace the venerable Browning Hi-Power under Australia’s Lethality System Project LAND 159. The Australian Defence Department have just made their first order for the new pistols worth $20 million (AUD$30 million).

Springfield Armory is excited to announce its latest addition to the rimfire shooting community – the new Model 2020 Rimfire series of rifles. The Springfield Model 2020 Rimfire is a new bolt-action platform featuring either a classic walnut wood stock that comes in various grades, or the choice of several variants of “target” oriented versions that feature bull barrels, and synthetic stocks. Best of all, however, is that these rifles start at around $430, and are apparently guaranteed to hold 1″ of accuracy at 50 yards with factory match ammunition when shot by a “skilled shooter.” 2-MOA isn’t bad for a rimfire rifle but we’ll have to test that out when we get one of these to the range – for now, let’s check out what Springfield has to say about their new rifles in the press release below.

Sightron has a new low-power variable optic in their S-Tac lineup. The new 1-6×24 IR AR1 is a second focal plane scope with a 30mm main tube. It also features an illuminated reticle.

Beretta is adding a new compact model to the APX A1 family. With a 3.7-inch barrel and 15-round magazine, the APX A1 Compact fits in between the Full Size and Carry models. Let’s see what other features it brings to the table.

LAHAB Light Ammunition (LLA) is the national ammunition manufacturer of the United Arab Emirates, part of the EDGE Group that we better know through the Caracal firearms brand. A manufacturer up to now solely focused on the military market, LLA is now eyeing the commercial market.

New from POF-USA is their “Dragoon Series” Renegade+ rifle.  The key feature of the Dragoon series is a 13.75″ barrel with a pinned and welded Dead Air KeyMo brake to make it a stampless gun.  13.75″ will be ideal for home defense.  The barrel length affords enough velocity to the 5.56 round while trimming off a few inches.  This makes the rifle more compact and better balanced and affords the use of a Sierra 5 or other KeyMo-compatible silencer/adapters.  The Dragoon Series is available at POF-USA “Black Label” dealers.  POF USA does not have an MSRP listed yet on their website for this SKU, but prices currently range around $2000 MSRP for other Renegade+ rifles.

Ammunition has looked largely the same for over one hundred years. Looks, however, can be extremely deceiving. Inside the tiny capsules, changes in technology are ever-advancing. Bullet design, consistent primers, and better powder have been the focus for many years. True Velocity has turned its attention to the final component of a cartridge and has developed composite-cased ammunition, aiming to leave brass in the past. Now, the composite company’s three 5.56x45mm variations are available to civilians.

US SOCOM is set to award SIG Sauer another 5 year contract to provide Suppressed Upper Receiver Groups (SURG). SIG Sauer were initially awarded the SURG contract back in July 2018. The SURG kit includes a piston-driven MCX upper receiver with detachable, rather than integral, suppressor. The FDE-coloured SURG kit also reportedly includes an MCX-pattern folding stock.

Faxon Firearms have announced the introduction of a new ultra-light rifle, the ION-X Hyperlite 5.56 Rifle. The rifle weighs in at 4.93 lbs and uses a skeletonized lower receiver which is 2 ounces lighter than their standard lower. The rifle comes with a 16-inch pencil barrel, a 3-port brake and a 13-inch M-LOK carbon fiber handguard. Faxon describe the ION-X Hyperlite as a: “lightweight powerhouse for competitive shooters and firearm enthusiasts.”
