We all know Zastava Arms as a firearms manufacturer, Serbia’s premier maker of Kalashnikov-pattern rifles and more. In addition to their dozens of famed AK models, Zastava also produces quite a few other weapons, from handguns to bolt-action rifles and even a couple of anti-aircraft artillery pieces for their many national military customers. They have been in the weapons manufacturing business for more than 170 years, with their foundry’s first cannon barrels having been cast in Serbia’s fourth-largest city of Kragujevac (Крагујевац) all the way back in 1853. Now for SHOT Show this year, they’re partnering with Miona Badžević Anđelković, a Serbian entrepreneur, competitive shooter, fashionista, media personality, extreme sportswoman, humanitarian, and more. Zastava’s SHOT Show presentation will feature some of Miona’s exquisite fashion handiwork from her “LET HER” brand, in the form of dresses made of leather and brass shell casings. Good news for California-ites who are fans of revolvers and pistol optics, Taurus’ optics ready revolvers are now approved for sale in California. Taurus 856 T.O.R.O. and 605 T.O.R.O. (Taurus Optics Ready Option) have been added to California’s Department of Justice’s roster of Handguns Certified for Sale.

Hey, deer hunters – especially those in Illinois – do you want to turn your repeating rifle into a single shot? If so, the new one-round sled from Mossberg can do just that for you, with no expensive gunsmithing needed for your Patriot single-shot conversion.

Viridian has a new combination light laser unit for concealed carry pistols. The C5L Micro combines a green laser with a 550-lumen light. It is sized to fit on the most popular everyday carry guns.

Hodge Defense Systems has become a hot-ticket name in the AR-15 world in recent years. Their rise to popularity brought with it an air of exclusivity, as their products created enough demand to sometimes necessitate “drop”-style releases that would sell out in minutes. B&T has dabbled in AR-style and similar firearms before, including a prior collaboration with German manufacturer C.G. Haenel. Now the vaunted Swiss firm is set to enter a new partnership, this time with Hodge, to offer a new AR series. It will be called the BT-15 HD, based on Hodge’s extant MOD 1 and MOD 2 designs. These new B&T/Hodge ARs are estimated to be slated for a mid-2024 release and should be offered in either 11.5″ or 16″ variants.

Looking for a bit more accuracy from your gobbler blaster? Mossberg is looking to up your scattergun marksmanship with new versions of the 500 and 835 pump-action turkey guns, coming with a Holosun red dot sight.

The new Burris FastFire C is an RMSc-footprint red dot designed for concealed carry. It features a 6-MOA dot reticle, powered by a bottom-mounted standard 2032 battery with 25,000 hours of battery life. Let’s take a look at the other features of this red dot.

Want a new value-for-money over/under but you don’t want to get beat up by recoil? Mossberg has just the thing, adding the 20 gauge Gold Reserve over/under to their shotgun lineup. Previously, the Gold Reserve series was built around the 12 gauge offering, with a .410 also available. The 20 gauge option is the next logical progression.

Trijicon has three new scopes for 2024, with two new Credo 1-10×28 models and a new Tenmile HX 5-25×50 FFP. All three are premium models with high-end features. They also have illumination in both red and green.

The history of fish-and-game laws is filled with tales of authorities devising new crackdowns to preserve wildlife (or sometimes human life)… and gearmakers, ammo manufacturers, firearm designers and hunters themselves figuring out how to work with said laws. The new-for-2024 400 Legend Mossberg Patriot is the perfect example. It isn’t the traditional break-action or lever-action rifle that many lawmakers might have envisioned when straight-wall cartridge laws were introduced. It’s a modern bolt-action that just happens to shoot a new-fangled cartridge with old-fashioned characteristics. Sort of.

Ruger must be feeling in a festive mood these days. Fresh on the heels of two commemorative-edition 10/22 models celebrating the company’s 75th anniversary, we now see a 60th-anniversary edition of the 10/22 as it has its own big six-decade birthday. Officially, this is the Sixth Edition of the Ruger Collector’s Series.

There is finally a good way to freshen up a tired Galil magazine. Wolff Gunsprings is now selling replacement Galil magazine springs for both the standard 35-round and extended 50-round models. These new springs also add 5% more power than standard springs for reliable feeding.

United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) just announced they are looking for a new ELR-SR (Extreme Long Range – Sniper Rifle) to replace their older anti-materiel and anti-personnel rifles such as the M107 and MK15 and will have a precision fire capability of 2500m.

The concept of a “gun cane” has been around for a long time as has the concept of concealing a self-defense firearm within an otherwise innocuous object. The Crossfire Metalworks Viper Tac Bat is a metal bat that also features an 8” 22LR barrel and takes a slightly more overt approach to the hidden-in-plain-sight firearm.

Magpul is back again with another new DAKA product. This time it is the DAKA double pistol case. It stores two handguns, magazines, and small tools in a layout that roughly resembles a laptop case.

The new Bergara 6mm GT Competition Rifle is one of, if not the, first factory-produced rifles in that caliber. It is designed for out-of-the-box PRS or NRL match use. With only a scope and a bipod, it is ready to compete with what was once only a custom caliber.

Heresy Design has come out offering upgrades for the Steyr AUG. The most notable of these upgrades are their AUG conversion kits. They offer 5.56 barrels of different lengths but it is their .300BLK barrel and 9mm caliber conversion getting the most interest from AUG enthusiasts.

Ah, the scene of the gun “buyback.” For now, let’s leave aside the question as to how something can be “bought back” when the buyers never sold it to begin with. Instead, focus on the inanities that play out where the rubber meets the road, as things get more and more silly at the buying table. A prime example is a California event in early December, where media and law enforcement trumpeted the purchase of what appeared to be an LAW.

There’s change blowing in the wind for Savage Arms. After more than 25 years in leadership roles at Savage Arms, Al Kasper is leaving the company’s CEO role. Chris Bezzina, another longtime insider, will take over the job effective December 31, 2023.

Brownells makes one of the best aftermarket 10/22 style receivers on the market.
