Oh Canada! Canucks Getting Their Gun Licenses In Record Numbers

Canada: Is it America’s hat? A repository of peaceful moose and beaver, but no guns? While the country does indeed have some whacky gun laws, Canadian gun owners are like Australian gun owners: Always doing the best they can with the current rules. And right now, Canadians are applying for firearms licenses in record numbers, even as the government cracks down with tough rhetoric backing laws that are written with little basis in fact.

TFB Behind The Gun Podcast #103: Under Armour & The Tactical Games with Nick Thayer

Longtime readers of the blog and frequent listeners of the podcast will know that I’m personally a huge fan of shooting competitions. While I have my roots in Steel Challenge, in the 15 years that I’ve been competitively shooting I’ve expanded my portfolio of successfully completed matches from trap shooting to obscure and insane competitions like Finnish and Woodland Brutality. This year is already chalking up to be one of my busiest years for competition and while at SHOT Show 2024, I might have just talked my way into probably the toughest competition yet – The Tactical Games. At the show, I was able to have an in-person and on-video interview with the guy who runs the Tactical Games, Nick Thayer. Nick Thayer was happy to be on the podcast not just to talk about the competition and how you can get into it, but also about the unique relationship that Under Armour has with the Tactical Games, and how their support of the sport is a good indicator of things to come in the shooting sports space. Personally, I had always assumed that Under Armour was an “anti-gun” company, but as you’ll hear in today’s episode, that attitude is slowly making its way out the door at the fitness clothing mogul, and that could mean great things for more than just the shooting sports industry.

In light of some recent examples I’ve seen across the internet like people getting helplessly stuck in the ice and snow, I thought I’d bring along a subject matter expert to help us all be better prepared for these types of situations. BrassFacts has done a lot of research, training, and actual survivalist camping throughout his entire life and has even taught winter survival overseas. While the advice he has in this particular podcast isn’t what you’ll get from Artic Ranger training, these simple tips, items, and pieces of knowledge are just about what everyone needs to keep themselves out of trouble and alive if they find themselves in trouble in the snow.

SIG SAUER Releases Special-Edition Multicam MCX-SPEAR LT

SIG SAUER unveiled their MCX-SPEAR LT series of firearms in the fall of 2022, following up from the prior release of their large-frame SPEAR model. The original SPEAR is essentially the commercial version of their DoD Next Generation Squad Weapon (NGSW) program entry to replace the military’s aging M4 carbines. The LT versions were added to maintain the design’s advantages while bringing additional options to buyers in further chamberings, such as 5.56 or 300 BLK. Now SIG has announced the release of a new special edition of their popular SPEAR LT, which is offered in Multicam thanks to their partnership with custom Cerakote gurus Blowndeadline, rather than the series’ standard FDE or black. No matter what level of shooting you’re at, or what your goals are, the Vortex Edge team can probably help you with your training, even if it includes using night vision.
