The 350 Legend since its introduction a few years ago has been popular amongst hunters for its mild push of a recoil, effectiveness on game, and more open acceptance in “restrictive states” being it is a straight-wall cartridge. Well, “bigger is better,” right? So, Savage Arms has jumped on board with the 400 Legend cartridge and they are shipping out 14 unique rifles chambered in this new cartridge.

It was just announced a few weeks ago that Federal Premium had debuted a new Copper Plated 1 Buck Home Defense/Field load of shotgun shells providing the dual purpose of being able to hunt game as well as defend. Now, Federal Premium is once again announced another selection with Power-Shok 1 Buck providing that same type of versatility.

Hornady’s 2023 releases continue with a new line of ammunition loaded with a new projectile. The new V-Match (no relation to the old school Bushmaster rifle) ammunition is match-grade but also optimized for varminting, thanks to the ELD-VT bullet. Let’s take a closer look. 

Once a niche cartridge only supported by one company, the 5.7×28 is becoming mainstream. Hornady is the latest contender to join the fray with two new ammunition choices. Let’s take a look at what they bring to the table. 

Hornady has a new .22-caliber Advanced Rifle Cartridge, the aptly-named 22 ARC. It joins the 6mm ARC in Hornady’s family of specialized cartridges for the AR platform. Right out of the gate, Hornady has three different factory loads available.

Federal Premium Ammunition has a legacy of securing ammunition contracts for factions of the military and law enforcement groups across the globe, and they have further cemented that reputation by obtaining their latest Duty Ammo Contract with the Department of Homeland Security and US Immigration and Customs Enforcement for .223 Rem ammunition.

There is a load of shotgun shells out there that can completely change the task that your shotgun is capable of handling. Duplex loads can often help bridge the gap between two different tasks or ranges. Remington’s new Nitro-Steel Duplex load is a new high-velocity shot shell loaded with two different sizes of shot. At the time of launch, there will be two available shot combinations, with two additional shot combinations coming at a later date.

HEVI-Shot Ammunition has announced that they have new offerings of their HEVI-Bismuth Upland game loads available for hunters this fall. Now, the same HEVI-Bismuth pellets that we have come to know – that are 22% more dense than steel – are available in even more offerings to bag grouse, pheasant, woodcock, and all types of upland birds this upcoming season.

Hello and welcome to TFB Weekly Web Deals 66. Once again it appears that a small ammunition shortage will be coming. This new panic comes on the heels of the announcement that the Lake City Ammunition plant would be canceling all of its current commercial contracts which supply something like 30% of the civilian market’s 5.56 ammunition. While the plant is operated by Olin Winchester, it is owned by the US Government which means that to no one’s surprise, the US Government gets first crack at ammo production, and anything beyond that gets thrown to the commercial market. Multiple gun stores have already reported a great increase in the amount of “bulk buying” that customers are doing in anticipation of this new shortage. If you feel strapped for 5.56, or just want to pick up a few boxes as usual, this week’s deals will all be primarily 5.56 and .223 ammunition.

If you are someone who likes to go out this time of year pursuing upland game birds, but you still are conscious of the environment and your direct impact on it, then you will be pleased to hear about Federal Premium expanding their Hi-Bird line of ammunition to include #5 Shot sporting their Fiber Wad. Now, when filling your limit of grouse, pheasants, and other upland game birds, you will be leaving behind less waste out in the field.

This project, which I am calling the B14R SOLUS, is a combination of Bergara’s B14R rimfire trainer barreled action, and Aero Precision’s SOLUS Competition chassis and a smattering of other high-end parts and accessories. Why? Most of the fun I get from rimfire is just cheap shooting and training. Since I had the parts lying around and the capability, I simply wanted to do something in the complete opposite direction of “practical” or even “value-conscious.” The B14R SOLUS is supposed to be overpriced, and overbuilt and today we’ll take a look at all the parts I’ve put into it, as well as what ammunition plays best with this unholy combination of rimfire parts.
