Fiocchi has announced plans for a new primer factory – expanding its operations in Arkansas with a new 281-acre site in the Port of Little Rock. The $41.5 million investment will create 120 new jobs in the region. The company hopes to begin construction in 2023 and anticipates the first stage of operational capacity at its new Little Rock primer manufacturing plant will start early in 2025.

Beretta Holding S.A recently acquired Norma Precision and will now be investing up to $60 million in a brand new 300,000-square-foot manufacturing and distribution hub in Savannah, Georgia. Beretta Holding S.A. is the parent company of the famous Industrial Group, it operates more than 15 manufacturing sites spanning across the globe and employs over 6,500 people.

Accurate 2520 is a smokeless powder with a long history in competition shooting. It has been used in competition rifle loads dating back to the days when .308 Winchester was still in common use. With the recent shortage of Varget, is Accurate 2520 worth a new look?

The US Department of Defense has awarded Winchester a cost-plus contract to carry out a manufacturing study to produce tracer projectiles for the US Army’s new family of 6.8mm weapons. The development will take place at the Lake City Ammunition Plant which Olin Winchester operates on the US Army’s behalf.

Last week we talked a bit about fellow writer Rusty S’s well-put-together Tikka T1x 22LR varmint rifle. While I think everyone can appreciate a really nice 22LR varmint slaying rifle, a lot of you seemed to hold the sentiment that there are other rifles out there that are far less expensive that can probably still take to the task more affordably, and you’re probably all 100% right. I’m all for optimizing setups including my 22LR rifles and pistols and this often means borrowing other parts and accessories from some of my more expensive rigs. However, one thing I try my best not to borrow from is the suppressors for my centerfire guns. Suppressing firearms chambered in 22LR seems like it might be a dead simple task but if you’re trying to optimize your setup then there are a few basic rules you can follow to keep costs down, maintenance intervals low, and have your auto-loading guns running smoothly. Today on The Rimfire Report we’ll go over a few basic methods you can follow for suppressing 22LR rifles and pistols to get the best results.

While the UK firearms market might not be nearly as large as the United States, there are still a ton of hunters, collectors, recreational, and sport shooters who reside in the country who rely on quality ammunition just like we do here in the States, however, a new Consultation dossier on REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation, and Restriction of Chemicals) legislation has been put out that seeks to ban all lead shot in all habitats due to concerns surrounding the risks involved using the lead shot in wetlands and other habitats.

Hornady has announced a new reloading scale for 2023 with a 0.01-grain readout. The new Precision Lab Scale promises increased accuracy for the discerning reloader, as well as some convenient features for those who are data-obsessed.

Despite the launching of many 7 PRC rifles and loadings at the end of October, Hornady quietly launched an updated lineup of their Sub-X bullets, as well as their subsonic 7.62×39 loading using said Sub-X bullets. The Sub-X bullets utilize the familiar red-nosed expansion tip, but these tips have been enlarged to enhance the bullet’s expansion at much lower velocities. For the moment, it appears that the 255-grain 7.62×39 projectiles only come as part of their factory-loaded subsonic cartridge series, while the rest of the Sub-X lineup are available as just the projectiles. Hornady previously listed the 190 grain .308 caliber bullets under the Sub-X line, though they’ve now also listed .357, .452, .458, and one more .308 caliber offering.

We’ve recently been hit with a wave of new rifle offerings featuring the recently announced and SAMMI-approved 7mm PRC cartridge. Right on the heels of some of the latest introductions like the Impulse Mountain Hunter is Savage’s newest cartridge offering for some of their most popular rifles – 7mm PRC. 7mm PRC is a great cartridge for shooters who want to extend their range capabilities for either ELR competitions or long-range hunting and is well known for its laser-like trajectory drop at shorter distances within 500 yards. The new Savage 7mm PRC capabilities will be added to 11 of Savage’s currently existing rifles and they should all be available towards the end of 2022.

We continue our Autumn in Maine series with a popular backcountry pistol chambered in 10mm. The GLOCK 29 is a compact version of the GLOCK 20, reducing the barrel, slide, and grip length enough to be more concealable than a full-sized handgun. Keep in mind that the GLOCK G29 is not as compact as its cousin the GLOCK 26 chambered in 9mm. It is a large frame GLOCK with a wide grip and will practically end any ideas you had of pocket carry. But in the northern states, where moose, bear, and other large animals can be a problem, most of us feel slightly under-gunned with a 9mm pistol.

For others, the extra money could be better spent on durability, or maybe even aesthetic characteristics. On the other hand, some people just like to collect firearms purely for their novelty. Last week we had Sam S. channel his inner Discount Han Solo and told us all about the Charter Arms Explorer II AR7 pistol. Much like the AR7 rifle, the Explorer II is meant to be compact, and portable but while achieving that it sacrifices consistency and reliability. Despite its less than stellar reputation in these areas, many of you and myself included want Henry Repeating Arms to come out with a modernized version that improves in these areas, and even if it winds up being an extra $100 or so, I think a majority of us would be willing to foot the bill to have an accurate, reliable, and interesting survival rimfire pistol. I saw this video on YouTube and thought it was worth sharing. As some of you may know, I like slow motion especially when it pertains to firearms. Well, the Slow Mo Guys have access to some of the best slow-motion cameras and have occasional videos using firearms in slow motion. This time they used a pinfire pistol to shoot the back of a 9mm and .22LR cartridge. The results were surprising.

The United States Army has just awarded Federal Ammunition a new 5-year long contract worth $114,000,000 dollars. This new contract is meant to supply the United States Army with AA40 5.56mm Frangible Ammunition to be used for training purposes. Despite the recent adoption of the new M5 Spear and its .277 Fury cartridge, it seems the US Army still needs a healthy supply of 5.56mm ammunition for its inventory of carbines.
