This week we’re diving back into another firearm chambered just in 22LR – the KelTec P17, but this time we’re talking about a new addition to the lineup for the P17 that many people have been waiting for – an optics-ready slide. KelTec is known for producing innovative and affordable firearms, and the KelTec P17 is no exception. Welcome to TFB Weekly Web Deals 49! COVID hit the firearms industry pretty hard but I think the most frustrating part about all of the shortages for me personally was the quick disappearance of primers and other reloading components. It didn’t take long into 2020 for me to quickly burn through nearly my entire inventory of reloading components and then I was left hunting at various local gun shows for overpriced trays of pistol primers. Long story short, I eventually gave up because it was much easier and far less expensive just to buy bulk ammo when I could find it. Fast forward to today and I’m now starting to notice a handful of primers show up and actually stay in stock. They’re wildly overpriced compared to the prices we paid even just a few short years ago, but at least they’re available again. Today is mostly a reloading-focused roundup so hopefully you guys can find something below that’ll help you fire that rusty reloading press back up.

Part of what I love about being a gun nerd is meeting other people who are willing to go to extreme lengths to test out concepts, and theories, or maybe even just to get a solid set of raw data. A couple of weeks ago, Paul from Ammunition To Go, an online ammunition retailer, reached out to me to share some of their extensive magazine testing data with the hopes that their real-world, and lab-tested results could help people determine exactly what keeps mags running for the longest. Speer Ammunition have announced that they have been awarded a new contract to provide ammunition to the New York Police Department. Speer will supply their 9x19mm 124-grain Gold Dot which will be the department’s service and training ammunition for the next five years during the life of the contract. NYPD have been using Speer ammunition since 2001.

Welcome to TFB Weekly Web Deals 47! Primary Arms has been a huge supporter of both the blog and the TFBTV YouTube channel for quite some time. I’ve been using Primary Arms to buy gun parts, ammunition, and even whole firearms long before then, so I know they’ve always got great deals on not only the sale and clearance items you’ll see today but also regularly scheduled sales that pop up for only 24 hours. Another great online retailer that I often frequent now for bulk ammunition is Palmetto State Armory. A couple of months ago, we published an article about a new SAAMI-accepted cartridge called 400 Legend that at the time was not announced by any of the ammunition manufacturers. It was however pretty easy to guess that the new cartridge was likely designed by Winchester Ammunition, as it is named similar to the 350 Legend, a cartridge introduced by Winchester in 2019. Well, Winchester Ammunition has now officially released the 400 Legend cartridge.

Magazine loaders are very popular for new and older shooters who want to take a little bit of stress off their thumbs during training. While there are already several great options on the market, a new magazine loader from Unorthodox Designs has just hit the market exclusively at GunMagWarehouse. The new Unorthodox Designs SLAP (Single Load and Press) Loader flips the traditional idea of the magazine loader on its head and has you feed the magazine and loader upside down using the weight of your body to press the round into the magazine instead of relying on your grip strength alone.

One of the coolest fun and most relaxed shooting sports I’ve come across in the last couple of years has been Egg Shoots. An Egg Shoot will vary depending on the local club or match director but the basic premise is simple – Grab a bunch of 22LR rifles and some eggs and start blasting them for points during a timed relay. While the activity still sometimes uses real eggs, with the number of shooters that show up to these events it’s more common these days to see steel or paper targets used instead to reduce both cost and waste. If you want to try out one of these activities but are afraid you won’t be able to find one after Easter, you’re in luck – Egg Shoots are conducted year-round at a lot of different shooting clubs. Welcome to TFB Weekly Web Deals 43! I hope everyone’s St. Patrick’s Day weekend was not only full of many libations and good conversations, but also plenty of shooting! The Irish certainly had their own influence on the modern firearms culture we see in the world today and in fact, the Irish were some of the first people to document the use of arquebuses by German mercenarians operating in Dublin in the latter half of the 15th century. A more familiar and modern influence from Ireland comes from John Rigby when he founded John Rigby & Co Gunmakers Limited in 1775. Today Rigby makes very high-end hunting rifles and is now under the ownership of the L&O Group, which also owns Blaser, Sauer, and Mauser. Anyway, this has nothing to do with any of the deals that we’ve gathered for you today, but I did want to share this tiny bit of Irish firearms history with you all! As it happens, I like weird old guns. Ever since I watched the incredible Zulu (1964) a few years ago, I wanted a Martini-Henry. Specifically, a Martini-Henry Mk III, which is the model found in the movie. Mostly. They couldn’t get enough actual Martinis and had to use some Enfields, but it doesn’t matter. Unfortunately, the Martini-Henry is chambered in 577/450, a cartridge that is long out of production. Enter the Shooters Box 577/450 Chamber Adapter.

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This week’s special edition is going to depart from our normal subject and instead focus on another cartridge design that is only a couple of decades older – pinfire. Similar to rimfire cartridges, pinfire cartridges were invented in the earlier half of the 19th century as firearms technology was rapidly progressing. The pinfire cartridge design was one of the trailblazers of what would eventually become modern cartridges for the time and is also noteworthy for being one of the first metallic cartridge designs of the 19th century. Today in this special edition of The Rimfire Report, we’ll dive into the history, design, and firearms that existed within the pinfire world and how they eventually became obsolete after a short-lived era of widespread adoption.

The 6mm ARC Cartridge has started to see a perceivable uptick in adoption by the shooting sports industry and along with that rise in popularity, HOWA, and Legacy Sports International are proud to announce their much-anticipated 6mm ARC HOWA Mini Action Rifles are finally shipping to customers in a fairly large number of different offerings depending on the specific users needs.

Winchester have been awarded several new contracts to produce ammunition for the US Army’s Next Generation Squad Weapons – the XM7 rifle and XM250 machine gun. The contracts will be undertaken at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant (LCAAP) in Independence, Mo. which is run by Winchester, on behalf of the Department of Defense.

Fiocchi are introducing a new series of all-copper big game ammunition. The Knock Down series will be available in a range of calibers including .270 Win, 6.5 Creedmoor, 7mm Remington Mag, .308, .30-06 and .300 Win. Mag.

JEBS are an American shotgun choke tube manufacturer whose claim to fame is their revolutionary interior-bore design which produces distinctly tighter patterns and some pretty effective recoil-reduction systems within the industry. JEBS has decided to set foot in the ammunition manufacturing industry by introducing its new Signature Series TSS 12 Gauge shotgun ammo. The ammunition industry has seen its fair share of ups and downs over the last decade with everything from national news reporting, and politics, to global pandemics marking the start of each rise and fall in the prices and availability of ammunition across the country. Last week fellow TFB writer and gunsmith savant Sam S. took a deep dive into the antiquated 30 Rimfire cartridge. Like many of its other rimfire cousins, 30 Rimfire just didn’t survive the wide acceptance of centerfire cartridges which proved to be superior in virtually every way. This week we’re going to be covering something that caught my attention quite recently. Around the start of the new year the YouTube channel Garand Thumb started a discussion with a guy in the comments of one of his recent videos saying he could consistently hit a soda can at 700 yards with a 22LR. Obviously, a lot of online drama has been drummed up about this and I’m not particularly interested in that portion of it, but rather the actual practicality of the claim. So today we’ll discuss whether or not I think this is possible based on what I know and have experienced with 22LR.

Last time we took a look at one of my 22LR revolvers in The Rimfire Report: J.P. Sauer & Sohn Western Marshal 22LR Review. This week I am at the helm again and filling in for your usual host  Luke C. This time I found myself twiddling my thumbs trying to think of a rimfire gun I or anyone else has not yet talked about on this particular stage. Alas, all that I own has been spent. Luckily, once upon a time I received a bag of some very old ammunition, and deep down inside was some 30 Rimfire!  Let’s dive into the 30 Rimfire cartridge!

Later this Spring the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) will be offering a range of various surplus ammunition in a number of calibers including .30 Carbine. .30-06 M2 Ball and .22LR. The CMP is currently cataloging their inventory and then the ammunition will be made available to purchase.

The Slow Mo Guys are at it again using high-speed cameras to observe firearms. This time they are bouncing bullets across a fish tank and filming it with a high-speed Phantom TMX7510 to watch what happens to the bullets when they skip across the water.

Welcome back to another edition of Concealed Carry Corner. Last week, I took a look at various pistol types and talked about how reliable those systems are over time. A reoccurring question I get fairly often is if I buy specific self-defense ammo for every carry gun or if I have a general round I use across the board. It’s an interesting discussion since there are some out there who believe self-defense ammunition isn’t necessary for a carry gun. Let’s take a closer look at the facts when it comes to important ammo choices.
