Speer Ammunition has been awarded a three-year contract by the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). Speer is to supply a maximum of 8.5 million rounds of their Gold Dot G2 duty ammunition, which got the highest-scoring performance in the FBI’s testing protocol.

Although the .22 Long Rifle is not generally considered a good defensive round, there are still people who use firearms chambered in .22LR for self-defense purposes. There can be many reasons for opting for a .22LR gun such as weak grip strength, recoil sensitivity, price, etc. Well, for those who chose the .22LR for defensive use,  CCI Ammunition has a new product – the  CCI Uppercut, a self-defense .22LR ammunition optimized for semi-auto pistols with 2.5″ to 4″ barrels. It is officially no secret that the US Navy is searching out some more ammunition because they have been announcing ammo contract securements as of late. Remington recently was awarded a contract for shotgun shells and now we have some more news concerning Federal. Federal Ammunition has recently been awarded the Mk316 Mod 0 US Navy Contract for 7.62x51mm rifle ammunition for two years.

If you are a former swabbie – US Navy man – you might be unsurprised to learn that Remington Ammunition has secured themselves another US Navy Contract to supply them with ammo. This time it is for the AO23 vintage of shotgun shells being a 12 Gauge slug, duty shotgun load: a 2 3/4″, 1 ounce rifled lead slug.

Lapua of Finland is introducing two new cartridge casings in 2024, namely the 300 Winchester Short Magnum (WSM) and 6mm GT. According to Lapua, the 300 WSM provides many advantages among magnum cartridges, delivering energy equal to the 300 Win Mag. It’s conveniently integrated into a short-action rifle design.

Stand 1 Armory is a boutique ammunition manufacturer based in north Texas, nestled in the rolling plains just over an hour’s drive west toward the panhandle from the western side of the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. The company’s story is a tale of resurrection, with the brand’s original ownership having shut down operations in late 2017. After approximately three years of dormancy, 2020 saw the re-emergence of the Stand 1 name under new ownership. Renowned ammunition manufacturer Eley introduced at SHOT 2024 a game-changing development for the world of virtual marksmanship competitions – the X-Shot hardware. This new system is an innovative expansion on Eley’s popular X-Shot App and significantly upgrades the user experience for competitors all over the globe.

Both Remington and Federal Ammunition introduced new lines of ammunition at the 2024 SHOT Show. Federal expanded its portfolio by building on the Fusion series. The new offerings aim to enhance shooting accuracy and range, equipped with a polymer tip that improves the ballistic coefficient, flattens trajectories, and intensifies energy for sustained effectiveness at greater distances. Remington announced the expansion of their Core-Lokt Tipped and the introduction of the UMC Leadless lines of ammunition. Let’s take a closer look at the new ammunition offerings by Federal and Remington.

At SHOT Show 2024, Simunition introduced updates to their AR upper receiver assembly, designed to accommodate modern accessories more effectively. The modified AR uppers are created to enable the firing of non-lethal Simunition training rounds.

Italian ammunition manufacturer, Hasler, has made the strategic decision to enter the United States market with its all-copper bullet line. Hasler, which also produces loaded ammunition, chose to initiate its U.S. operations solely with its projectile lineup, easing regulatory hurdles. The company’s product roster includes the Ariete, Bull, Hunting, Sport, and Long Range lines, all designed in a solid monolithic format, targeting both reloader consumers and the ammunition industry.

Renowned European shotshell manufacturer, Zala, attending SHOT 2024, announced the launch of its new 1.75-inch mini shell line, expected to hit the market in 2024. Zala mini shotshells will be offered loaded with #7.5 birdshot, #4 or #1 buckshot, and 7/8 oz slugs.

At the SHOT 2024, SIM-X, the esteemed manufacturer of Defensecore self-defense ammunition, announced the launch of a new line of ammunition named Rangecore. The introduction of Rangecore ammunition successfully addresses the needs of firearm users desiring a cost-effective practice solution that replicates the power of the self-defense version they carry day-to-day.

Black Hills Ammunition, the manufacturer recognized for its high-quality precision ammo, such as the revered Mk262, announced the addition of new cartridge options to its offerings. Among the latest releases are the .300 Precision Rifle Cartridge (PRC) and new loads for the 6mm Advanced Rifle Cartridge (ARC).

Prvi Partizan Uzice (PPU) has introduced a new Supreme line of ammunition, teaming up with Sierra Bullets to offer shooters a series of loads crafted for precision and performance. Topping the list is the currently available 6.5 Creedmoor round, equipped with a 140-grain Sierra MatchKing bullet, known for its accuracy and consistency. This new line caters specifically to the needs of precision shooters and expands PPU’s already diverse catalog of ammunition options.

Inceptor Ammunition has expanded its offerings to meet the needs of reloading enthusiasts with the release of their component bullets. Known for manufacturing frangible self-defense and range rounds, the company has made a new stride by availing their bullets for individual purchase. This move is particularly beneficial for those who regularly use Inceptor’s products and are experienced in reloading, as it provides more flexibility in ammunition customization.

Apex Ammunition is once again expanding its non-toxic ammunition lineup to stay ahead of the “sub gauge craze,” by introducing its new 28 gauge turkey load. This hard-hitting load combines 1 Oz of #10 tungsten shot with a half-oz of #9 shot.

Kalashnikov Concern and Tula Cartridge Plant have developed a new intermediate cartridge called 6.02×41 and two rifles chambered in it – Mini SVCh and AK-22. The 6.02×41 is designed to replace both the 7.62×39 and 5.45×39 cartridges in the Russian military service. This joint project started in 2020 and apparently was just unclassified with the publishing of the Russian patent (RU2809501C1) protecting the design of the cartridge.  Kalashnikov Gun Magazine were the first to report about this program.

The Colt CZ Group has announced a deal to acquire Czech ammunition manufacturer Sellier & Bellot. This marks Colt CZ Group’s latest acquisition and their continued expansion in the small arms sector. The deal is worth more than $350 million and sees Colt CZ Group acquire the ammunition manufacturer in full while Sellier & Bellot’s parent company CBC Europe will take a 27% stake in Colt CZ Group. CBC bought Sellier & Bellot in 2009.

The reloading world is constantly expanding despite several upsets over the decades that have left many wanting for components like primers and projectiles. Now that things seem to more or less be going back to normal in terms of availability of components, it’s nice that Hodgdon released the new Hodgdon 2024 Annual Manual. This yearly release contains some of the most up-to-date information for new pistol and rifle loads, as well as updates to older loads to accommodate for new selections in projectiles and powder.

Before we get started I’d like to point out as of right now this is purely speculation based off of what we’re seeing currently in the market. A few days ago at the start of December, Vista Outdoors, the principal owner of several popular brands of ammunition, powders, and primers, announced a price increase due to begin at the start of 2024. This increase is in reaction to what Vista Outdoors calls an unprecedented demand for and anticipated global shortage of gunpowder. The full press release has been posted below.

Magtech Ammunition is introducing new, lower-priced Steel Case 9mm pistol ammunition. Developed over a two-year period, this Magtech should be better than traditional steel case offerings as Magtech will handle production in-house using proprietary machinery and will incorporate the same Boxer primers and the same powder and projectiles used in Magtech’s standard brass case 9mm.

HEVI-Shot Ammunition is always trickling out new SKUs and offerings of shotgun shells in their relentless pursuit of getting more payload downrange and on target. Their newest shells to market a singular blend of HEVI-Hammer in 12 Gauge 3 1/2″ #2 shot. Meant to deliver 85% more payload than its competitors, it could be a must-have for waterfowl hunters who are still in the field this fall/winter.

Straight-wall cartridges are getting a lot of press in recent years because our powers that be – in their infinite wisdom – believe that if a rifle casing is straight on its edge, that will be safer for everyone who is hunting in the surrounding area (I cannot believe we’re entertaining conversations like this, but I digress). For all of the people who hunt in more restrictive areas of the United States, Federal has some good news with additional Power-Shok 360 Buckhammer offerings.

HEVI-Shot Ammunition returns with yet another new waterfowl offering in-season for anyone looking to change up what they’re shooting at ducks and geese. This newest selection is for the small gauges hunters out there as they have produced some new .410 gauge HEVI-XII waterfowl loads. HEVI-Shot’s .410 Gauge HEVI-XII waterfowl ammunition is alloyed and loaded in Sweet Home, Oregon in 25-round boxes with an MSRP of $99.99 each.

The Hungarian government and Beretta Holding have entered into an agreement to establish ammunition manufacturing in Hungary. The Hungarian armed forces are looking to locally produce both 7.62x51mm and 12.7mm (.50 BMG) ammunition for their armored vehicle fleet. The letter of intent will lead to the establishment of new production lines which will provide secure local production of widely used NATO machine gun ammunition.

Slow Mo Guys have been making some great firearm-related content with their high-speed cameras. Their latest video was inspired by an old video from 2009 of some really detailed footage of bullets smashing into steel filmed at 1 million frames per second. They try their hand at filming bullets vs steel and film it up to 800,000 frames per second.
