Canik USA recently unveiled their new micro-compact pistol, the Canik METE MC9, which makes it the smallest gun in the Canik lineup. The new Canik METE MC9 is slightly smaller compared to the sub-compact, the TP9 Elite SC, with the MC9’s 3.18-inch barrel, 1.12-inch width, and a reduced overall profile. The MC9 comes with both a 12-round and 15-round magazine, which are compatible with the SC mags. The Canik METE MC9 also features an ambidextrous slide stop, and is optics-ready with a Shield footprint.

Matador Arms brought to SHOT Show 2023 their new MAT-9 blowback 9mm upper receiver assembly which is the improved version of the earlier released  Montgo-9. Compared to the Montgo-9, MAT-9 has a longer barrel (7.825” vs 5.5″) and forearm yet at an overall weight of 3 lbs, it’s lighter than the Montgo-9 by about 3 oz.

Shadow Systems showed off a few new models of 9mm pistols at Industry Day at the Range 2023. Their pistols share quite a bit of DNA with Glocks, but add features more often associated with custom modifications.

At SHOT 2023’s Industry Day at the Range, Mean Arms unveiled their new Bearing Delayed 9mm carbine.  This new design uses their existing endomags in conjunction with a standard pattern AR-15 lower.  A set of three ball bearings (rather than rollers) are used in order to create a more tuneable delayed blowback firearm.  I had the opportunity to shoot the carbine and speak with Mean Arms about this radically new design.

Speer and CCI ammunition have just announced two new ammunition offerings that will be heavily showcased at SHOT Show 2023. However, in advance of the show, they’ve released all the information you could ask for on these two new ammunition products including CCI’s new polymer-coated Clean-22 Hypervelocity and Speer’s new Gold Dot G2 Carbine 135-gr ammo. Speer has one of the most well-trusted names when it comes to personal defense ammunition and CCI shares similar fame when it comes to reliable and accurate rimfire ammunition.

The existing catalog of Canik handguns currently spans nearly two dozen models between their Signature, Rival, Mete, and TP9 series. These guns differ in a variety of details from finishes to features, and range in price from MSRPs starting at $379.99 to $899.99. A new model now sits atop the high end of this range, with the recent announcement of the company’s two new SFx Rival-S variants. These newest 9mm additions feature steel frames and are offered in either a shiny silver-and-black colorway or a blacked-out “Dark Side” finish. Patriot Ordnance Factory, aka POF-USA, is best known for their AR-pattern rifles, particularly their piston-driven models. The Arizona-based operation began its existence in late founder Frank DeSomma’s garage, fueled by his experience as an aerospace engineer, and is still carrying on strong in his memory with fresh products and innovation. They announced a new PCC, the Phoenix, at SHOT Show 2022, and are now doubling down in the 9mm game ahead of SHOT Show 2023. Their newest pistol-caliber gun looks a bit different, however. Meet the 9mm magazine-fed lever-action Tombstone.

It has been three years since the Altor Pistol was announced. We saw it at SHOT Show 2020. I still have the leaflet with dealer pricing from that SHOT Show. I wanted one the moment I saw it. Well, I finally found one at a local gun store and purchased as an impulse buy. It was just over $100 but I had grand plans for this little unassuming single-shot pistol. Let’s dive in and take a look at this little pistol.

The 1911 platform is still alive and kicking over 100 years later and has actually seen a lot of attention in 2022 with several major firearms companies putting their own various types of 1911 pistols into the bin for customers to choose from. Joining the 1911 game for 2023 is the new Savage 1911 Government style pistol. This new offering from Savage will feature Novak lo-mount style tritium sights, an ambidextrous slide lock safety, VZ G10 grips, and loads of other modernized features, as well as offerings in both 9mm and the classic .45 ACP cartridge.

More than three years ago, GLOCK announced a contract with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to supply them with three pistols. A Gen 5 GLOCK 26, a Gen 5 GLOCK 19 MOS, and a brand new model: the GLOCK 47. The new GLOCK 47 is the same length, width, and height as a Gen 5 GLOCK 17 – so what was the big deal? SIG Sauer has just released a new variant of the P320 pistol, the P320 XFive DH3, which was designed with Daniel Horner, a member of Team SIG. The P320 XFive DH3 features an optics-ready slide, flared magazine well, night sights, and a weighted, 43.5-ounce, tungsten-infused XFull grip module also found on the P320 XFive Legion. SIG states that the DH3 version of the P320 is blended to meet the needs of competitors and defenders alike, SIG’s description and specs can be found below.

When it comes to owning certain firearms, there seems to always be a couple bucket list guns out there for everyone. Movies and pop culture certainly influenced my love of firearms over the years and the TP9 was certainly one of them. Whether it’s paragliding pilots carrying a Steyr TMP shooting at Pierce Brosnan or Robert De Niro being shot at by a bad guy in the drive in movie theater with a TMP in the classic movie Heat, this little submachine gun was always such a cool concept and it was always a goal to own one. I’ve owned my TP9 and SBRed it for around three years ago. Let’s take a closer look at the classic B&T TP9.
