SIG SAUER‘s M17 and M18 handguns have been the US military’s official successors to the venerable Beretta M9 since 2017. Both of these 9mm models have been gradually phasing in with units across the branches over the last several years, with civilian-market versions also available for sale. These pistols feature an optics-cut slide as standard, and now SIG has developed a purpose-built optic to suit. Meet the new ROMEO-M17 red dot. Revealed a few months ago at SHOT Show, SIG has now advised that the ROMEO-M17 is coming soon and provided us with additional information about it. SIG SAUER announced a new P320 variant earlier this year, at SHOT Show 2023. James Reeves got his hands on one there, and you can check out the video here. This newest model is called the P320-AXG Legion and incorporates a few key features differentiating it from other versions in the extant P320 lineup. The most noticeable is its two-port slide-integrated expansion chamber, in essence, a built-in permanent compensator, which is advertised as reducing recoil by 30%. Some other key points include its optics-ready slide, AXG signature stainless steel frame (AXG indicates Alloy X-Grip, as opposed to polymer), and custom Hogue G10 grips emblazoned with the Legion chevron logo. Henry Repeating Arms is a bastion of lever-action guns, offering a slew of popular old-school repeaters hearkening back to the originals invented by their namesake more than a century and a half ago. Since the modern company’s founding in 1996, they have exclusively produced long guns and only rarely deviated from the lever-based format, excepting a handful of models foraying into single-shot/bolt/semi-auto/pump territory. A 12-gauge shotgun is a formidable weapon. You’ll find the internet to be littered with comments about shotguns being the best home defense weapon. My concealed carry holster includes a space for a spare magazine. My battle belt has pouches for carrying two or three spare magazines. When talking about firearm safety, most people focus on preventing negligent discharges. AGM Global Vision presents the new Neith Digital Night Vision Scopes. According to AGM, it’s the optimal solution for budget-conscious hunters, with a desire to begin with night hunting. The display has full color during the day and black & white at night. Additional features include an integrated IR illumination, built-in video recording, detachable and rechargeable 18650 batteries, and the American Defense MFG (ADM) QD mount so you can attach it to your firearm. The camera sensor uses a 2560×1440 ultra-low light optical detector, which is displayed on a 1920×1080 OLED display inside the ocular. Thanks to the built-in long-range IR illuminator the detection range is claimed to be up to 400 meters. The AGM Neith DS32-4MP sells for $879.00, and the AGM Neith DC32-4MP costs $989.00.

Bul Armory announced several new and improved handgun variants at IWA 2023, and today we’ll take a look at those from their SAS II series. There are three, all optics-ready: the SAS II Radical 5.4″, Air, and Saw models. Each is a 1911-based design offered in either 9mm or .40 S&W, and aimed largely at the competition market for use in IPSC Standard and USPSA Limited/Limited Optics divisions. They all feature stainless steel construction, and range in MSRP from $2450 to $3090. The 9mm versions have a 19-round capacity, with one fewer round fitting into the .40s. Starting April 2023, Anderson Manufacturing will release Special Edition Builder Sets that consist of an Anderson lower, upper and handguard with a custom Cerakote finish. Each month they will collect pre-orders for a one-of-a-kind pattern, which will be released the following month. Cerakote is a ceramic-based coating that is applied to various surfaces, including metals like here. Over the years the process has become increasingly popular due to its durability and resistance to wear, corrosion, impact, and chemicals. In this case, the coating will be made by Grit City Cerakote.

Dave Lauck of D&L Sports is now offering heavy duty sights for Colt Python and Anaconda revolvers, much like what he’s already provided for Smith & Wesson revolvers that we covered earlier on TFB. The new Colt revolver heavy duty sights are fixed, and feature a U notch in the rear sight. The heavy duty sights from D&L Sports can also be custom ordered to include tritium inserts.

Reptilia Corp‘s bread and butter has long been optics mounts, although they do offer a menu of other products as well, including weaponlight bodies, AR-15 grips/stocks, and more. While many of their optics mounts focus on affixing backup/CQB red dots to riflescopes, the latest model delves into the world of combat shotgunning. Beretta’s 1301 has become the first word in tactical scatterguns, and the A300 model is popular as well. The Warner & Swasey name returns to the world of firearm optics with the RDSMicro MOA3 red dot sight. It features a proprietary 1.54″ mount, as well as integral backup iron sights on top of the optic. The RDSMicro MOA3 is exclusivley sold by Geissele.

Japanese Precision and German Engineering – the HOWA HERA H7 rifle is a combination of hunting and precision rifle. It is available in 6.5 Creedmoor and .308 Winchester with three barrel lengths, 22″ Standard, 24″ Heavy, and 24″ Carbon Fiber, all of which are threaded. The stock system is constructed of fiberglass-reinforced polymer, an aluminum V-block, and an aluminum forestock. The stock features spacer-adjustable LOP, polymer cheekpiece and M-LOK attachment points. The rifle comes with 2-5 round detachable AICS-compatible magazines and is available in Tan, OD Green, or Black color options. The AR-15 is popular for so many reasons. One of the big ones is ergonomics. The AR pistol grip has become so popular, that even precision rifle manufacturers are making them standard on their guns. One particular firearm has had some mixed reviews about its grip, and now, it’s getting the Strike Industries treatment. If you own a CZ Scorpion EVO and don’t like the grip, you’re in luck. Strike Industries has released its new AR Pistol Grip Adapter for the CZ Scorpion.

MDT has released a Training Shot Timer for shooters of all skill levels. The timer can be used with a wide range of rifles and calibers, as well as for your dry fire practice. The device stores all shooting data and links with an accompanying app, allowing users to film video with real-time statistics and share it on social media. At the recent IWA exhibition in Germany, I had a demo of how it can be used. I’m not usually impressed with timers, but as a competitor and instructor, I noticed a lot of features that could be used not only by myself but also to instruct others to become better.

European American Amory Corporation is now offering the Girsan MC 14 T. With its “Tip-Up” design there is no slide racking required to load and fire the gun. Offered in .380 ACP with a capacity of 13+1, it’s claimed to be the ideal concealed carry handgun, especially for those who may have difficulty using a regular pistol. The MC 14 T has an external safety, external hammer and auto firing pin block. The MSRP is $498, with an all-steel 4.5″ barrel and slide and ambidextrous safety.

While Israeli-based Bul Armory manufactures a number of other guns, what many shooters probably associate them most closely with is their lineup of 1911s. The company’s current catalogue features nearly two dozen models based on John Moses Browning’s venerable design. The Bul crew has largely set out to modernize this classic, particularly when it comes to their competition-centric race guns. They’ve come out with 1911s chambered for rounds other than the OG’s .45 ACP, as well – including .38 Super, .40 S&W, and 9mm. This last caliber is now getting three new SAS II-series versions. Bul Armory has been producing small arms for about a third of a century, since the Israeli operation’s founding in 1990. In the US, they’ve come to be probably most commonly known for their 1911s, notably their competition-purposed race guns. However, they also produce handguns intended for duty use and EDC/concealed carry. Over the last year or so, there have been rumblings about some new and improved polymer-framed models coming to the US, as James and Luke C. reported on at last year’s IWA trade show. More updates emerged earlier this month from IWA 2023, and now Bul has announced that their new 2023 Axe Hatchet handgun models, generally comparable to the Glock 17 and 19 but with some apparent aftermarket customization-inspired features, should be available later this year. German Precision Optics has a new long-range hunting riflescope called SPECTRA 6X 4.5-27x50i. According to GPO, this model is perfect for hunting all North American game species, from small game to elk. The iCONTROL microdot lighting has been incorporated into the MOAi ballistic reticle, to aid with longer shots. The scope comes with a 30mm main tube, GPO bright lens coating technology, doubleHD objective lens technology, and PASSIONtrac zero-stop locking turrets with 1/4″ at 100 yards turret-adjustment. To help you change the magnification, there’s a removable magnification throw lever included.

New Hampshire-based Samson Manufacturing produces a healthy list of firearms components and accessories. While the AR-15 features strongly in their lineup, with a variety of handguards, iron sights, and more on offer for it, their catalog touches plenty of other firearm types as well. From folding stocks for Ruger 10/22s and Mini-14s to rails for MP5 clones, to comps for pistols and PCCs, there’s a little bit of something for nearly everyone. AK shooters are no exception, with a smattering of sight rails and other parts available, and now the company has added a new Kalashnikov offering to their arsenal, if you’re into modernizing Mikhail’s classic design. When I teach concealed carry courses, I always stress that everyday carry is not one piece of gear. The whole thing needs to work as a system, and one of the foundational pieces is a sturdy belt. Though two-belt systems have gained popularity, many of us are more inclined to run one belt that fills multiple roles. Bear Creek Arsenal has just launched their new 10mm and .45ACP rifles and pistols as an extension to their side-charging blowback action, which is an evolution of the AR-15 pattern. These new Bear Creek Arsenal rifles and pistols utilize Glock pattern magazines, and unlike the bufferless 9mm versions, the new 10mm and .45s will use a buffered system to reduce felt recoil. The 10mm and .45 rifles and pistols feature a right-side charging handle, and also eject spent brass to the right. Each model is supplied with a free-floated handguard with M-LOK mounting points.

When it comes to vertical grips, most people that I know will buy a longer grip and cut it down. A good support is essential when you’re sighting in. Florida-based Big Daddy Unlimited is primarily known for retailing other companies’ firearms-related products. Their characteristic subscription system is membership-based, with some products and best pricing info locked behind a paywall. What they have not been widely known for over most of their operational history is offering their own house-brand products. Now it appears they may be looking to change that, as they have recently announced a pre-order for their new Big Daddy Unlimited “G-Flex” trigger, for gen 3-5 Glock handguns. Rock River Arms begins the year by releasing the Operator DMR series (Designated Marksman Rifle), with no less than four models chambered for .308/7.62×51 and two models chambered in .223/5.56 NATO. The .308 version comes in two barrel lengths, 16″ or 20″, with an optional SilencerCo Chimera 300 suppressor. The .223 DMRs also come in 16″ or 20″ configurations.

The Frontier 34 first focal plane riflescopes from Hawke Optics come in either 3-18×50 or 5-30×56, and both come with two illuminated reticle options: Mil Pro Ext and MOA Pro Ext. Depending on the model, you can change the height of these riflescopes by up to 46 MRAD or 158 MOA. There are 11 levels of red illumination that light up the whole reticle, with off stops in between each level so you can quickly get back to your preferred brightness.  The price starts from $1429.

Zero Compromise Optics released their first-ever all-around and hunting-focused riflescope at IWA OutdoorClassics last week. The final touches are still in the works, but it’s been named ZC Hunter 1.7-12×50 and you can see a “live” image of it below.

Recently Scandinavian Airguns changed its name to Scandinavian Arms, with the aim to offer premium shooting gear to airguns as well as normal firearms. In this move, they expanded beyond the airgun market and acquired the JET-01 firearms chassis system and accessories from Long Range Design (LRD Sweden).
