TFB Behind The Gun Podcast #92: What the Heck is a Thermal Fit Upper? w/ Munitionworks

Today’s guest is one that followers of our YouTube channel should at least be familiar with – Munitionworks. Munitionworks is a boutique firearm producer specializing in “best bang for your buck” rifles featuring solid core components, and peripheral components you can swap out later on as your build progresses. What this does is provide customers with limited access to tools and workspace to have a solid working rifle that can be progressively updated as time and money allow. The J.O.E. Carbine MK2 is just the latest progression of the Munitionworks carbine, using unique techniques like thermal barrel fitting to improve consistency across the board and maximize the potential of the components being used in each rifle. Today our guest Dane, the owner of Munitionworks, has quite an interesting story as to how he decided to start up Munitionworks, and his journey thus far complete with his successes and learning moments.

TFB Behind The Gun Podcast #90: Warning Explicit Firearms Content

This year I had the distinct pleasure of meeting the power couple that is Paige and Jaxon at Finnish Brutality 2023, who not only rocked the match with their shooting skills but also injected an infectious energy into their gear presentations and general attitudes during the match. Both Paige and Jaxon enthusiastically participated in the highly popular extra “LARP” category, allowing contestants to embody a variety of themed characters from history or fiction. This creative freedom resulted in some delightfully entertaining and amusing costumes from both of them. Notably, Jaxon, formerly in the Army and now formerly associated with Weapon Outfitters, has transitioned into managing a well-known gun range in Washington State but still keeps his passion for shooting and mil-spec equipment alive. On the other hand, Paige operates a highly successful online art business, seamlessly merging elements of popular culture with firearms in her artwork. While Paige may be most renowned for her more explicit creations, she also offers family-friendly items such as hats, shirts, prints, and stickers in her online store with less racy subjects. Shooting alongside Paige and Jaxon at Finnish Brutality 2023 was an absolute delight, and I am pumped to have them as our guests today on TFB’s Behind The Gun Podcast. In this episode, we will delve into their backgrounds, their shooting preferences, their impressions of the match, some of their more recent projects, and, of course, share some fun anecdotes from their adventures in the beautiful country of Finland. Please give a warm welcome to Paige and Jaxon! Once again, a huge thank you to Varusteleka for hosting all of the competitors at the match and providing a ton of great gear for prizes!

On today’s episode of TFB’s Behind The Gun Podcast, we brought back our friend Print Shoot Repeat (PRS) to talk about his experiences at Finnish Brutality 2023. Today PSR and I dive into both our experiences at Finnish Brutality 2023, our thoughts on Finland, Brutality, and the unique culture that we had the pleasure of experiencing during our time in the country.

TFB Behind The Gun Podcast #88: Print Shoot Repeat Pt. 1 – Can't Stop the Signal

On today’s episode of TFB’s Behind the Gun Podcast, we’ve brought on 3D printing YouTuber Print Shoot Repeat to talk about his DIY firearm profession. Print Shoot Repeat primarily specializes in showcasing, testing, and developing open-source 3D-printed firearms that everyone and anyone with a 3D printer can benefit from. TFB Behind The Gun Podcast #87: Exploring the Granny Tunnel with Calvin of Firepower United

We’re back to our continuing coverage of Finnish Brutality 2023, this time with my good friend Calvin T from Firepower United. Many of you will remember Calvin from his YouTube channel that often collaborated with TFBTV and it just so happens that this year Calvin and I had the opportunity to shoot together at Finnish Brutality 2023. Beyond being a professional gun satirist, Calvin is also an accomplished competitive shooter, as well as an avid collector of historical military firearms. Today Calvin and I will be discussing the Finnish Brutality 2023 match, some of his competitive shooting stories, and of course a neat story behind the infamous “Granny Tunnel” located in the country’s capital of Helsinki. Please welcome Calvin T of Firepower United to the show!

TFB Behind The Gun Podcast #86: What is Multispectral Night Vision? Derick w/ PARD

Thermal and digital night vision is making leaps and bounds within the firearms community when it comes to the capabilities they are now offering end users at much lower pricing than we’ve ever seen before. PARD, a European producer of digital and thermal night vision devices for observation, hunting, and shooting, is attempting to bring more awareness to its efforts to bring affordable and durable devices to the US market. That’s why I’m happy to have Derick from PARD on the podcast today to talk a bit about their current product lineup and what it offers to various users within the shooting community. Derick and I also take a minute to chat about some of the basic terminology of common specifications and features found on digital night vision and thermal devices, to give us a clear definition of what they mean, and how those numbers and figures relate to what you’re buying. Please give a warm welcome to Derick with PARD Technology!

TFB Behind The Gun Podcast #85: Who is Varusteleka? With CEO Jari Lane

Varusteleka has fast become one of my favorite clothing brands, mostly due to their judicious use of Merino Wool in most of their in-house designed products. Beyond that, they are one of a select few places online where I know it’s absolutely safe to purchase military surplus gear without having it misidentified. Varusteleka is Europe’s largest military surplus provider and one of the largest gear providers as well. This year they once again hosted Finnish Brutality 2023 in their home country, and their CEO Jari Lane is and always has been instrumental in the event. In addition to helping organize the event, Jari also puts a lot of time, effort, and thought into designing each stage for a brutality event. Today Jari and I discuss Varusteleka’s rich company history in their 20 years of operation, how they’re celebrating, and what plans Jari and his team have for both Varusteleka and the Finnish Brutality competition in the years to come.

TFB Podcast Roundup 101: Gun Culture & Used Guns?

Welcome to TFB Podcast Roundup 101. Two of this week’s podcasts we’ll be featuring are pretty interesting topics. “Gun Culture” is one that has come up in conversation more than once over the last couple of months. While I won’t comment specifically on American Gun Culture (the guys from the Reload podcast will do it for us), I think there are many different gun cultures within the United States. Just about every new gun owner I meet always has something slightly different they’re really interested in that has its own little community and intricacies. Likewise, there are a ton of different types of podcasts to listen to that more or less match the number of small gun communities you’ll find. So no matter what types of guns you’re into or whatever reason you’re into them, you can probably find a podcast that’ll interest you. TFB Behind The Gun Podcast #84: Remembering Finnish Brutality with Ian from Forgotten Weapons

This week Ian from Forgotten Weapons joins me on the show to talk about his own thoughts on this year’s Finnish Brutality competition. Ian is one member of the core group of people that started up the Brutality Matches here in the United States so I was excited to take the opportunity to pick his brain about Finnish Brutality. Today Ian and I discuss our time spent during the two-day competition, some hurdles we faced, successes we had, and also a great story about Ian stepping on a land mine! So adding to our ongoing coverage of Finnish Brutality 2023, please welcome Ian McCollum of Forgotten Weapons to the show!

TFB Behind The Gun Podcast #83: Smuggling Arms into Finland with Polaris Logistics

In our continuing coverage of this year’s Finnish Brutality event, I’ve brought on another member of my squad, Les Winner, to talk about his and his buddy Matt’s experiences at the match and to talk about his company, Polaris Logistics. Polaris Logistics specializes in the import and export of personally owned arms so that you and your buddies can travel abroad and attend competitions or go hunt with your own guns that you’ve trained with and used at home. Les works with local authorities and gains the necessary permits and generally deals with all of the hassles normally involved with legally exporting firearms, and turns it into a simple affair where you ship your guns to him here in the States, and then he hands them to you when you get to the country where you’re competing. So in addition to learning about the ins and outs of the import and export of arms, we’ll be talking about some of our most and least favorite stages from Finnish Brutality 2023!

TFB Behind The Gun Podcast #82: Falkin' Around with Bloke on the Range

Continuing with our Finnish Brutality 2023 coverage, we’ve brought back Mike Burns (Bloke on the Range) to talk about his specific setup, as well as how he prepared for Finnish Brutality from his current home nation of Switzerland. Switzerland is often touted as being one of the best places to be a gun collector due to their specific laws surrounding the types of firearms you can get. Bloke managed to get himself set up with a genuine L1A1 rifle, which is not only aggressively British but also something we Americans can never hope to acquire even with our relatively forgiving firearms laws. So please join me and Bloke as we reminisce about Finnish Brutality 2023, retro firearms, and period-correct operator facial hair!

TFB Podcast Roundup 99: Much Ado About Brutality

Finnish Brutality 2023 concluded just last week and it’s been constantly on my mind. While the fun of the match is over, myself and many of the other attendees have been already looking forward to the next couple of brutality matches and have been coming up with a lot of ideas to make the competition even more fun, and more brutal. Part of that talk has led us back to previous year’s competitions to look for inspiration in both what worked and what didn’t work. So this week, while you’re getting some work done at the office or at home, I’ve rounded up a handful of Brutality-centric podcasts and videos you can listen to so that you’ll be mentally prepared for what’s to come if you’ve decided to go to one of these matches yourself. So as always, sit back, relax and enjoy this week’s selection of gun podcast content … or maybe this week it might be more appropriate to listen to these ones while you’re at the gym.

TFB Behind The Gun Podcast #81: Finnish Brutality 2023 Recap with Kit Badger

We’re back again at another Brutality match but this time, in the far away country of Finland. Although the Finnish and American Brutality matches share the same origins, I personally believe that Finnish Brutality is much more difficult from the standpoint of pure physicality – which makes it way more fun. For this episode, I’ve brought on Ivan Loomis (aka Kit Badger) to talk about the match with me as we both not only were invited to the event by the good folks from Varusteleka, but we were also both fortunate to be in the same squad with one another and therefore had a chance to see one another perform on each stage and generally enjoy the match together. If you’re interested in absolutely brutal two-gun matches or just like hearing about the gun law and gun culture from other nations, you’ll have a great time listening to us chat as we have a nice casual stroll through downtown Helsinki.

TFB Behind The Gun Podcast #80: A Shotgun Of An Episode

This week’s episode of TFB’s Behind The Gun Podcast features both Lucas D and Hop of TFB and TFBTV as we have a nice chat about shotguns. However, as indicated by the title, the topics in this episode are going to vary a bit as our beer supply dwindles and the early hours of the morning start to set in. We’re talking about shotguns, the latest trends in cartridge selection and whether or not a shotgun is actually a wise selection as a primary weapon for self-defense, or as part of your collection as a well-armed civilian. Pull up a chair, grab a nice stiff drink and join us as we ramble about shotguns and much more in this 80th episode of TFB’s Behind The Gun Podcast!

TFB Podcast Roundup 97: The Only Thing Better Than The Sound of Gunfire

Welcome to TFB Podcast Roundup 97! Podcasts are probably one of my favorite sounds to hear at the range other than relentless gunfire. Last week I had the unique opportunity to have a nice chat with Mo from Raven Wing Limited, a Los Angels based training company that specializes in higher-level pistol and carbine training. Mo and Raven Wing have built themselves up quite the reputation in the training world for not only having an extensive offering of training classes for different skill levels but also for bringing other talented trainers from across the country to train their customers at Raven Wing’s facilities. However, beyond that episode, we’ve got our usual roundup of podcast episodes from around the web, as well as a few of our own homegrown episodes featuring other cool guests like Mo! So as always, sit back, relax, and enjoy this week’s selection of gun podcast listening.
