TFB Podcast Roundup 5: Home Delivery Silencers and the Elusive Dugan Ashley

Welcome to TFB’s Podcast Roundup 5. This week we’re getting a chance to hear from somewhat of a legend within the YouTube gun community: Dugan Ashley. For those of you who don’t know or don’t remember, Dugan Ashley was a pioneer of the “GunTuber” variant along with a few notable others. As far back as 2012, I remember tuning in to Dugan’s channel CarniK Con (Carnivorous Kinetic Concepts) which featured both a heavy dose of satire, humor and legitimate information/review. Sadly, Dugan deleted his channel along with all of his videos but there are still some fans out there dedicating to archiving his videos and keeping them online for others to enjoy. Dugan occasionally likes to drop into podcasts and random YouTube videos. This week I’m sharing a dated episode from 2016 to help fans of Dugan’s get a clearer view of where he went and what he’s been up to since his sudden disappearance.

TFB Behind The Gun Podcast Episode #31: Staff Writer Luke C

Today on the podcast we have, well, me – Luke C. This podcast interview was done during SHOT Show 2020 during my very first SHOT Show both as a TFB writer and as a general gun enthusiast. I’ve learned a lot since joining up with the TFB crew and it truly has been one of the most rewarding experiences in my life. The amount I have learned and continue to learn on a daily basis makes me both humbled and honored to be part of such a fantastic group of writers and teammates.

TFB Podcast Roundup 4: Student of the Gun, Bob Faxon, & Ian McCollum

Welcome to the TFB Podcast Roundup 4. I recently took a trip out to Wyoming to do some prairie dog hunting and while my time out there was phenomenal, I was unfortunately stuck for many hours inside of the increasingly unbearable air transit system. Thankfully, this gave me plenty of time to reach out and discover a few new podcasts that I hadn’t encountered before. To my surprise, I actually got to meet up with one of the hosts from this week’s podcasts and gleaned a lot of invaluable information from him. So to my friend Paul G. Markel of Student of the Gun – thanks for all the info!

TFB Behind The Gun Podcast Episode #29: Staff Writer Benjamin F

TFB’s very own resident gun runner Benjamin F might be the team’s most underrated powerhouse of creativity. Some of Benjamin’s posts in the past have triggered those who have a proclivity for 1911 pistols as well as those who are short on wit and big on assumptions. For those of you who don’t know, staff writer Benjamin F is responsible for what has to be one of my personal favorite articles on the site. His article entitled “ Crossing The Border – The Logistics Of Running Guns with TFB“, was more than just an insightful look into the struggles that some of our fellow countrymen have to contend with to purchase guns. The article was also a hilarious look at the lengths that a young man will go through to acquire a firearm for the purposes of his own entertainment.

TFB Podcast Roundup 2: DIY Trainers, Pinot, and Hacking 6.5 Creed

Welcome to the TFB Podcast Roundup 2: This week we’ve got a fresh new variety of podcasts as well as one special throwback episode featuring the legendary Chuck Pressburg from Presscheck Consulting. I was drawn back to this particular podcast because of the recent uptick in activity surrounding the Next Generation Squad Weapon. In the podcast, Chuck goes on to explain why we’ve historically gone with lighter calibers over larger ones and why we’ve often opted to go with smaller calibers to carry more ammunition. We’ll save that one for the end and instead start this week out with Vortex Nation’s excellent podcast in which they take 10 minutes to talk about a 6.5 Creedmoor life hack they think you should all know.

TFB Behind The Gun Podcast Episode #23: Chris Gaddy from Steiner Optics

The world of firearms optics is vast and ever-growing. Steiner has been a name in the industry since just after the second world war – born out of the ruin of ware in Bayreuth, Germany. The company, started by Karl Steiner, was created from a one-man workshop whose goal was to create sturdy yet flawless products capable of providing soldiers with reliable optics. This one-man workshop eventually grew into the world-renowned name in optics you know today as Steiner Optics. Today on the show we have Product Manager Chris Gaddy who showed us back at TFB GUNFEST 2021 that Steiner Optics has progressed well beyond their humble beginnings in 1947 and is now producing some extremely high tech battle-ready optics for the modern warfighter or sportsman.

But, if you want to see in the dark, I’ll hand you off to someone like Nick C. who, if he can put down his LEGO Millennium Falcon long enough, has enough night vision expertise to outfit a platoon. So, when it came time to talk with our friend Steve Lemenov from ATN Corp, I asked some pretty basic questions about thermal imagery and traditional night vision. ATN Corp manufacturers a wide variety of feature-rich imaging solutions that are affordable for the average shooter. Their new clip-on thermal imagers have really caught my and I hope to dive into a night time pest control series as time permits. Enjoy the listen.
