SHOT Show 2023 could be called the year of the Turbo for SureFire. SureFire has been a juggernaut in the handheld and weapon light market. With various companies making weapon lights for intensity over distance, it’s good to see the new Surefire Turbo weapon lights.

Luth-AR had a number of new products on display at this year’s SHOT Show. We’ve already looked at their handy  Modular Chassis Assembly (or MCA-22) but they also have a number of new accessories for your AR. These included the ambidextrous Wing Grip and the new left-handed ‘Chubby’ grip.

Mantis are set to expand their range of training systems with new Blackbeard X models. The system is already available for pistols and AR-15 pattern rifles and in a number of configurations and price points but 2023 will see the range expand to AK pattern rifles, AR-10s, CMMG’s Banshees and SIG Sauer’s MCX line later this year.

Yes, you read that headline correctly: C-Products aka DuraMag is getting into the suppressor game. Don’t worry, they still make magazines too though.

A couple of months back before SHOT Show 2023 was even a worry in my head I was invited out to Georgia where Safariland hosted a great event at Bill Rogers’ shooting school. This was fitting since Bill Rogers is essentially the father of the modern duty holster and while we were there, we were able to get a firsthand look at the new SafariVault holster, now being officially announced here at SHOT 2023. This new holster represents over a year’s worth of work by Safariland and is a super robust, super secure, and modular weapon retention system.

When it comes to carry gear, most people don’t think about the overall life of certain items. Unity Tactical is one of the industry’s leading names when it comes to firearms accessories. Their optics mounts, helmet attachments, weaponlight/laser switches, and more tend to be some of the most popular products on the market in their respective sub-sectors. Two of their prior switch releases, the 45-degree angled Hot Button and the flat-mount ModButton have become go-to solutions for a plethora of shooters running weaponlights, lasers, or both. One configuration that has become common is to run the tandem pairing of a Hot Button in front of a ModButton, and it seems that Unity has caught on to this trend. Magpul just added a set of hard cases to their lineup of other DAKA products. Magpul DAKA hard cases feature folding handles at the top and side and rolling wheels at the bottom. And, to top it off, they are all made in the USA.

If you’ve ever been through a high-volume of fire range day or a particularly intense carbine or rifle course, you’ll inevitably have run into problems with heat coming from the barrel and transferring through the handguard. GrovTec’s Rail Wraps are a new product for 2023 that help to reduce that problem by providing an insulating layer of material between your handguard and your hands that will keep them from getting uncomfortably hot when you’re running your rifle through a couple of well-deserved mag dumps.

Christensen Arms’ Flash Forged Technology has been insanely popular with its customers. Flash Foged Technology (FFT) maintains the same accuracy guarantee that other Christensen Arms rifles come with but can come in at up to a pound lighter. If you’re anything like me, you probably understand the struggle to have enough space in your gun safe or storage system. One of the biggest struggles I often have with my firearms is having the proper amount of storage. I own several safes that seem to fill up almost overnight. I decided a couple months ago to pick up a storage system for firearms in my office so I can easily store certain firearms at my work to keep things easy. It started getting me thinking about what’s important when it comes to concealed carry. Let’s take a closer look at what’s more important ammo versus accessories.

Reptilia Corp has a strong firearms industry pedigree, with some of their personnel carrying prior brand affiliations from a number of the top names in the business, such as Magpul and Crye Precision. I’ve talked about off-body carry in the past, but haven’t really given it a shot. I decided to give it another chance and over the last few years, I’ve actually come to realize that off-body carry does have a few great benefits depending on the situation. Let’s talk about how I started to take a new look at off-body carry,

Stern Defense have announced the availability of their  Rapid Attach Buttstock Adapter (RAB-AD) which was introduced at TriggrCon 2022. This device is installed on the AR-15 buffer tube and lower receiver allowing to quickly detach the two parts from each other for ease of transportation and storage.

Reactive targets are a great way to spice up any firearms training session. Not only is it great fun but the instant results you get back from the target are a great way to hone your skills by providing you with quick feedback about your accuracy. Steel targets are undisputedly the most common and popular option for reactive targets and are used in virtually every shooting discipline to provide trainees, competitors, or those just having fun, with a fun visual and audible experience that can make shooting paper targets seem boring in comparison. However, steel targets are not without their drawbacks. For one, they are quite expensive, second, they’re super heavy and often require specialized rigging equipment to get set up further increasing the cost. Viridian Weapon Tech has announced yet another expansion of their popular E SERIES Green Laser sights, this time for the P365XL handgun from SIG Sauer. The P365XL E SERIES Green Laser Sight is designed to fit easily into the P365XL trigger guard and provide the user with 6 hours of useable battery life and ambidextrous on/off button and other convenient features that make it a great addition for those needing a laser aiming solution.

Streamlight has added new Low Profile Tactical Lights with either red or green lasers suitable for subcompact handguns. The red laser version is named TLR-8 sub and the green laser is TLR-8 G sub. Both come with a 500-lumen light. Streamlight claims that the light runs for 1.5 hours and the laser for 11 hours, on a single CR123A lithium battery. Furthermore, the light has ambidextrous rear paddle controls, a strobe function, and comes with an IPX4 water-resistance rating.

The new Anderson Manufacturing KIGER-9c compact pistol was released just a few days ago, and those who are looking for a holster for this pistol already have several options from DeSantis Gunhide. Holosun has a new P.ID series of weaponlights (the abbreviation stands for Positive IDentification). In total there are four new models Holosun P.ID line – the P.ID, P.ID HC, P.ID Plus, and P.ID Dual. All models are milled from 7075 aluminum and are anodized. The P.ID’s use white light, and will attach to any MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny accessory rail.

Owners of the SIG P365 XMacro now have a new option for holstering, with the Slim-Tuk IWB from DeSantis. Made from Kydex, the Slim-Tuk is a minimal ambidextrous IWB holster with DeSantis’ tuck-able 360 C-Clip, for almost unlimited mounting options. For instance, you can reverse the carry from the right to the left hand. The tuckable C-Clips are made from strong nylon, with 360-degree adjustability. The retail price of this DeSantis IWB holster is $43.99.

We continue our Autumn in Maine series with a popular backcountry pistol chambered in 10mm. The GLOCK 29 is a compact version of the GLOCK 20, reducing the barrel, slide, and grip length enough to be more concealable than a full-sized handgun. Keep in mind that the GLOCK G29 is not as compact as its cousin the GLOCK 26 chambered in 9mm. It is a large frame GLOCK with a wide grip and will practically end any ideas you had of pocket carry. But in the northern states, where moose, bear, and other large animals can be a problem, most of us feel slightly under-gunned with a 9mm pistol.

B&T USA has just announced that its Universal Service Weapon chassis for the Glock small frame pistols (USW-G) has been assigned a National Stock Number. The USW-G works with the Glock 17 and 19 pistols with standard rails (Gen 3-5), and can quickly convert the pistol to a configuration with a folding stock for improved stability – no tools required. The USW aluminum chassis is compatible with red dots sights like the Aimpoint ACRO, to increase hit probability. Any red dot mounted on the chassis will be non-reciprocating. Once a National Stock Number has been issued, it makes the procurement process easier for all NATO members and partner countries.

Most people use rifle slings to carry a long gun when their hands are busy with other things. Various trends have come and gone, such as the three-point and one-point slings. Another classic style of sling that is not as common today is the shooting sling, which secures around the arm to add tension and stability. Magpul added the Rifleman Loop Sling (RLS) to their lineup a few years back, which is an affordable shooting sling. So let’s take a look at how it works.
