[SHOT 2021] Streamlight TLR-7 sub – A New Light for Subcompacts

Until recently, not many subcompact carry guns came equipped with rails. Because of this, some people either carried a larger handgun, or opted to have no light. However, with the introduction of pistols like the SIG P365, Springfield Armory Hellcat, and Glock 43X and 48 MOS models, that has changed. A need for subcompact lights has emerged and Streamlight has answered. Introducing the TLR-7 sub.

[SHOT 2021] XS Sights New Minimalist Night Sights

I always want to see the cool new tech that comes out of SHOT Show, and I think that’s the case for most of us. One thing that’s often overlooked is the basics. Iron sights have been around since the beginning of firearms history, and I don’t think that’s going to change. XS Sights is continuing to put out new models of pistol sights for those of us who still don’t run a dot on our handgun. The latest to be released is the XS Minimalist Night Sights.

TFB Review: Apex Tactical Action Enhancement Trigger for Springfield Hellcat

The Springfield Armory Hellcat has been a supremely popular pistol ever since its introduction into the world less than 2 years ago – and for good reasons. It is the world’s highest capacity, micro-compact on the market for people who want a smaller gun for carry, but do not want to sacrifice their round-count to get there. While I, like many others, can speak glowingly about the Hellcat, it is not a perfect gun either. The one flaw many people cite is that its trigger is very average, if not sub-par, which is a common trend among polymer pistols. For that very reason, I was excited to hear Apex Tactical had introduced a replacement trigger for the Springfield Armory Hellcat with their Action Enhancement Trigger package. Today, we will review it here on TFB to see if it is worth its salt or if the factory trigger is not that bad after all. Let’s dive in!

TFB Review: Inforce Wild2 Weapon Mounted Light

In the world of weapon lights, there are some pretty big names from SureFire to Streamlight. They both offer some great options for both pistol and rifle lights. I am a big fan of both the SureFire X300 line of weapon lights or Streamlight’s TLR-1 HL offerings. Inforce broke into the weapon-mounted light market a few years ago and offered a variety of models like the APL and APLc. The previous generation of Inforce lights was made out of polymer to keep the weapon light down on weight. It was a great option for people who wanted to keep the weight down on their guns while having a decently bright weapon light. Things have changed with the new Wild2 weapon light as this light has an aluminum housing. Let’s dive more into the new Inforce Wild2 weapon light.

Glock versus 1911. Nine millimeter versus .45 ACP. The length of James’s shorts. There are many hotly debated topics in the world of guns. Strike Industries has been offering their Extended Magazine Plate (EMP) for Glock for a while now. Well, now you SIG bois can have a piece too. New from Strike Industries is the Extended Magazine Plate for SIG P320.

Russian Diamond Arms RP-PM Makarov Grip with Thumb Magazine Release

One of the main ergonomic issues (for a modern shooter) of the Makarov pistol is the heel magazine release. With some practice, you can do reasonably fast magazine changes, but you still can’t get even close to the speed of the thumb actuated magazine release button or lever. No wonder why many aftermarket grip manufacturers for this pistol incorporate a thumb release conversion mechanism into their grips. This author is aware of four such grips currently available on the market – one is made by the Israeli FAB Defense, and the other three are manufactured by Russian companies Dozor, PM-Laser and Diamond Arms. The latter is a new product which we’ll take a look at in this article.

TFB Review: Ultradyne Apollo Max .223/5.56 Muzzle Brake

As someone who generally is disinterested in the newest and coolest tacticool whatsa-whosits, I have to admit to you that I was surprised to pick up anything with the intention of improving my AR15 or making my shooting experience more enjoyable with one. The item in question today is the Ultadyne Apollo Max .223/5.56 Muzzle Brake. If you have not heard of Ultradyne, they are an American company with American made products in the form of firearm accessories such as sights, muzzle devices, and combinations of the two. With today’s subject being the Apollo Max Muzzle Brake, I should mention what makes it unique…it reduces recoil far better than other muzzle brakes I have been around and that can benefit the user in multiple ways. Let us dive right into a review on the Ultradyne Apollo Max .223/5.56 Muzzle Brake!

New Rainier Arms AIX Angled Integrated Handstop

Handstops – some love them and some hate them, but as long as people keep buying them companies will make them available. Rainier Arms have some absolutely fresh ones called AIX (Angled Integrated Stop). They remind me of a shark fin. If you’re (overly) concerned about saving weight you can choose the holed version, which will probably save you a millisecond or two in your target transitions.

ATF Apparently Contradicting Themselves About SB Tactical Braces

An article popped up recently from Ammoland that alleges the ATF is singling out SB Tactical and their products. However, there may be a greater issue below the surface. Let us take a look at the problem and point out the fallacy of the ATF.

With the increasing popularity of 80% pistol frames, it’s no surprise that an aftermarket specific to these frames has risen to meet the needs of shooters and builders. TFB Review: Grizzly Targets 6″ AR500 Steel Reactive/Knockdown Circle

If you are into the shooting sports long enough you will eventually hit a tipping point in your recreational/training lifespan; especially with smaller arms like handguns and most things rimfire. What is that tipping point?… You will become exceedingly bored with paper targets (and that is where steel comes strolling in). While paper targets can be great for confirming group sizes, are an old standby for rifle shooting, and still serve a ton of value, I flatly get bored out of my mind shooting paper when I have handguns in my range bag. For that reason, plinking at steel gongs and targets of all sizes and orientations has grown in popularity like wildfire over the last decade. Bearing all of this in mind, today we are going to look at one popular company’s steel target and see if it truly has mettle (pun intended). So, let’s dive in and see what the Grizzly Targets 6″ AR500 Steel Reactive/Knockdown Circle is all about!

Bolt catch, shmolt catch. That’s what I thought before I knew anything about customizing AR-15’s (not that my knowledge is currently vast). Parts as small as a bolt catch can make a huge difference when it’s time to go to work on some cardboard attackers. So, what if you want to try different options, but don’t want to dip into your savings account? Once again, Strike Industries comes to the rescue of us poors, with the AR Modular Bolt Catch (MBC).

Concealed Carry Corner: Training With Snap Caps

The state of the gun economy is fairly strong in current times. If anything, it’s almost doing too well, which has created problems for shooters. The market for ammunition has taken a huge hit with the demand skyrocketing as a result of first-time gun buyers and people buying due to uncertainty. With supply this low, there are only a few options to keep up the training and hone your skills. You can either buy ammo at double or triple the rate of what it was before the rush or another option that’s much more budget-friendly, is the use of snap caps. Let’s dive into how training with snap caps can be a useful tool.
