When picking magazines, it doesn’t always seem like an important piece of the puzzle and most people just buy a few to have back up magazines for their gun either at the range or at home. Now I know this isn’t everyone but some people think of magazines as an afterthought to the actual gun. Usually, new shooters will go into a shop and purchase a firearm without considering buying extra magazines for training.

Advanced Target Technologies has just released a Simunition/UTM version of their Lumatic Target Plates. The system is designed for target designation and hit notification with sensors that display information via self healing LED lights. As Glock continues to grow out their line of Gen5 pistols so does  Lasermax with their Guide Rod Lasers that fit inside. For those who might be unfamiliar with the concept, Lasermax produces a laser that is tucked neatly inside the guide rod/recoil assembly of various semi-automatic pistols. By doing this, owners do not need to buy new holsters or alter any of their gear in order to get the benefits of using a laser for training or defense. For shooters who like to utilize the “thumbs pointed forward” handgun grip style, Noreen Firearms is manufacturing a Gas Pedal modification for certain handguns to help steady your grip. With the advancement of technology, weapon lights and lasers have grown in popularity over the last decade. This has grown to the point where holster companies have started creating custom holsters for all kinds of light and laser attachments. Both systems have applications where they can be incredibly useful. If used properly both can help aid shooters one way or another.

Over the last year and a half, there has been an increase in the number of vehicle burglaries among people I work with. Running my social media pages, I run into a ton of different people and become friends with people I otherwise wouldn’t have met.  Over the last year, I’ve had around 8-9 people I work with or know who have had their vehicles broken into and guns were stolen. One person who will remain anonymous, lost over $20,000 in firearms after a charity event because their vehicle was broken into. Now I would not be comfortable leaving a substantial amount of money in guns inside my truck unattended, but there are times you need space inside your vehicle to store a firearm.

Red Dots are a fantastic tool when shooting close to medium range.  There are a ton of people in the gun community who can reach out to 400+ yards consistently with a red dot; I am not one of those people and wanted the ability to reach out to further distances without having to break the bank or invest thousands of hours in improving a very specific skill. A real marksman would get to the range, hone his craft, and hit 400+ yards without so much as missing a beat humming the A-Team theme song.

Tyrant Designs is back at it again by bringing us another iteration of their truly unique muzzle brake that requires no set screws. They now have a P365 T-Comp available for SIG owners who want to lessen the recoil and muzzle rise while shooting. We at TFB actually had the opportunity to test and evaluate one of their T-Comp muzzle devices previously on a Glock pistol and were quite impressed. For those who own the wildly popular P365, this T-Comp could be a valuable addition to their range day fun.

When hitting the range there are a ton of targets to pick from for shooting. Shooting at indoor ranges you will usually be limited to paper targets only. There are a number of great drills online for paper targets that work fantastic for indoor ranges. I have written about the value of paper targets in a previous article, but today is all about interactive steel targets. Now I know there are certain people on here who will write in the comments below they can’t shoot steel at their range. To you guys. I’m honestly sorry for your luck and feel for you because shooting steel can be really beneficial with practice.

In the market today, there are almost endless options for slings and a number of larger companies that make high-quality functional AR slings. There are a ton of variants but I get the most questions about single point and two point slings. So we will focus on those for this article, but in the future, I can talk about three point slings and the value they bring as well. Each system has its own benefits depending on how you use the sling. Let’s dive in and look at how people traditionally use each style sling.

I often get questions from people about the best way to carry a spare magazine. I’ve struggled to find what works for me, but there are a few different ways of carrying a spare magazine concealed.  Before I started trying out different carry options, I use to carry a spare magazine in my pants pocket. This was never a great idea, and was always in a different position than when I put it in my pocket. The biggest issue with just carrying in your pocket is the fact rounds will come unseated out of the magazine. You’ll end up with a pile of random rounds in your pocket instead of being inside your magazine. And it isn’t ideal from a training or muscle memory standpoint either.

In the past, I’ve seen this debate all over, whether it’s online or in a gun store. There is a common misconception that you are only allowed to shoot paper or steel and one MUST be better than the other. The truth is both paper and steel targets have advantages. Both can be beneficial for new and experienced shooters so we will walk through the Pros and Cons with each.

Following the launch of Mossberg’s first pistol in over 100 years at this year’s SHOT Show, Minnesota-based Viridian Weapon Technologies have announced the addition of a laser sight for the Mossberg MC1sc to their E Series range of lasers.

Many states across the United States are not only banning bumpstocks, but they are calling for the destruction and forfeiture of the products. This flatly sucks for law-abiding gun owners, but the amusing part is many states who have called for bumpstocks to be surrendered have seen none turned in… literally… not a single one…

Palmetto State Armory announced through their Facebook page that they will begin selling High Cap Mags to California. They have once again been deemed legal by a District Court in California, and can thankfully be called “standard capacity” magazines once more. There have been rumors circulating that United Sporting Companies (USC) was in bad trouble and could potentially be going bankrupt. To quench those rumors, USC has made a Press Release to announce that instead, they are consolidating warehouses in hopes to improve their efficiency and save on costs.

Last year Mean Arms, the makers of the MA Loader, came out with a caliber conversion insert. The EndoMag converts a 5.56x45mm PMAG into 9mm. With the EndoMag you can use your standard AR lower to shoot 9mm and all you need is a 9mm upper.

A friend of mine wanted to build some target stands for holding up cardboard targets. Sort of like what you see in USPSA, IPCS or IDPA. He wanted to build those H shaped 2×4 target stands and I told him there is a much easier way of holding up cardboard and it is cheap. Plus they are not bulky like the 2×4 target stands. Here is the $6 cardboard target stand.

I saw this in a local store. When I mentioned who I write for, he said: “you may be interested in this”. It is a custom AFVG. That is not what he calls it, that is just what I called it. It is a hybrid of an angled foregrip and vertical grip.

Edelweiss Industries, not to be confused with the Swiss Edelweiss Arms, is truly an unusual find in a defense-oriented event such as IDEX. The small Austrian company, born out of the shooting range Edelweiss Adventure, offers an interesting array of Glock accessories.

In early November, I posted about a new revolver speedloader called the Ripcord, manufactured by CK Tactical Inc. To my knowledge, the Ripcord is the only “pull-tab speedloader” currently on the market, but the mechanics to use it are similar to previous examples I wrote about here. CK Tactical was nice enough to send me a couple 5 and 6 shot models to test. In the comments section of the Ripcord Speedloader product announcement, several concerns were raised and I set out to find the answers as well as put them to the test on the range.

I’m a bipod person (not bipolar!) and I’m always open minded to new bipods and shooting support solutions. They are a great help if used correctly!
