Soft Sided Mag Carriers vs Kydex Carriers – What's Best?

Over the last couple of months, people have asked me what’s the best way to carry rifle magazines at the range. The two main ways typically to carry magazines on a belt is either with a magazine pouch or molded Kydex carrier. Both ways can be extremely useful depending on the application. For this article, I’ll be looking at the High Speed Gear Industries Taco mag carrier system, but other general magazine soft pouches can be included in this.

A Gun Rack for Your… Bicycle?

The firearms industry produces its fair share of, shall we say, “niche” products. From Henry’s smoothbore .22 repeater to folding Glocks and much, much more, most of us have come across at least a few offerings that make us scratch our heads. For many, the Grubee bicycle gun rack is likely to be one of those. This rack for Schwinn shooters will run pedal-jockeys $49.95. Grubee advertises free domestic shipping, so no need to hire a bike courier to deliver your sweet new rimfire receptacle.

The Rimfire Report: My Top 5 Favorite Plinking Targets

Plinking is fun. That’s all there is to it. For all the training, competing, hunting and drilling we do, shooting “just for fun” is something that we probably don’t do often enough. Paper targets are great for honing your accuracy, exposing bad habits or sighting in a new scope. But nothing quite compares to shooting a reactive target – especially with a rimfire round like .22LR or . 17HMR. Today on the Rimfire Report I’m going to list out 5 of my all-time favorite plinking targets.

Blackhawk Recall Issued For T-Series LC2 Holster When Used With Modular Handgun System

Just last week word went out from the  Consumer Products Safety Commission that there has been a Blackhawk recall for the new T-series holster. The holster design can change the position of the safety switch on the firearm without the user knowing it. This could lead to a negligent discharge when drawn.

What Would You Buy If You Had An Hour To Spend 1 Million Dollars On Guns and Gear?

Occasionally I’ll sit down in a restaurant with family or good buddies and strike up gun related conversations. A few years ago my dad jokingly said he would love to give me a million dollars to buy whatever gun parts I wanted, but the catch would be I only had an hour to spend it. He always laughed and said he had no doubt I could easily spend that on guns and gear if given the opportunity. It was a great conversation and whenever I go to trade shows or out to dinner with friends in the industry, I always ask the same question. Now don’t get me wrong, I know this article isn’t very scientific or informational but it’s something really fun to think about. Let’s dive into my choices for my 1 million dollar spending spree.

Concealed Carry Corner: Night Sights vs Fiber Optic With A Weapon Light

In my previous articles, I’ve talked about why it’s important to have some sort of light when concealed carrying whether it’s a weapon-mounted light or some sort of handheld light. When concealed carrying, it’s important to have some sort of light source if you’re going out with a handgun at night. A common question I often get is whether to have night sights or fiber optic with a light. There can different ways to look at what kind of sights work best at night time.

Soft vs. Hard Rifle Cases – What's Better For You?

When thinking about hard and soft rifle cases, it’s easy to just pick one without really looking at what works best. For years I picked one style of case and used it regardless of whether or not it was the best choice for me. Over the last few months, I’ve been asked several times how I pick what case to use and why. I figured this would be a perfect time to sit down and explain the uses of both styles so let’s jump into it.

Red Dot Only Vs Co-Witnessing – What's Best?

With a growing number of companies making different types of fixed iron sights, I’ve been getting a ton of questions on what’s best. Some say red dot only is best while others say having fixed or back up irons to co-witness with are great too. Both styles have their advantages depending on what your needs are out of your gun. Let’s jump into what the difference is between the two systems and why they both have advantages.

Offset Light Mounts – Why They're Important

There are endless debates on what flashlight is best for a rifle but not many people talk about the benefits of offset light mounts vs standard factory mounts. I didn’t think much of offset light mounts until I started using a Haley Strategic SBR Thorntail mount on my 10.5 AR Pistol. Now that I’ve had about six months under my belt with a few different offset light mounts, I’m a true believer for a number of reasons. Let’s jump into why you should consider an offset light mount.

NeoMag Introduces The New Sentry Strap for AR Slings

Neomag has introduced its newest product called the Sentry Strap. This new sling strap is designed to be a sling staging strap that will help keep a single or two-point sling out of the way when storing a rifle or shooting when a sling is not needed. The design consists of a nylon strap with two strong magnets keeping the strap and sling in place and out of the way. The real party piece to the Sentry Strap is the ability to pull the sling with minimal pressure to have the magnets release. When the magnets release, the sling drops free giving a shooter the ability to freely use the sling. After a short phone call with NeoMag, they say the Sentry Strap is ambidextrous and mainly designed for AR platforms right now.

All Eyes On YOU: TFB's Best Discreet Rifle Bags And Cases

If you believe the mainstream media, the current state of affairs in America has labeled firearms as public enemy number one. The result is that gun owners are left with one of two choices: either be labeled as one of those people or hide in the shadows as John or Jane “Clandestine” Doe. Where the rubber meets the road, however, is when shooters are on the move to ranges, training courses or other locations. If you decide to not call attention to your ballistic beliefs, a discreet rifle case or bag can be a great way to transport your guns. I polled this staff for recommendations and came up with some of the best available options. We’ll talk about pistol cases another time.

SB Tactical has become one of the larger brace manufacturers for the gun industry. They make braces for most of the popular firearm models available today. Now two years later, SB Tactical has come out with the SBA4 brace which is essentially the adjustable version of SB Tactical’s popular SBM4 model. So what’s the difference between the SBA3 and SBA4? Setting Up a Range Belt – Some Essentials

Range belts are typically something that will polarize shooters and having half of you with pitchforks and torches yelling to burn the mall ninjas to death. I want to go through a few different setups about range belts. Whether it’s a minimalist carry belt or a full range belt, it really depends on your preferences. Range belts can be a great aid for training at the range efficiently with less time at the bench and more time at the range.

Proper Ways to Care for Firearms and Ammo in Storage

Lately, I’ve had a number of conversations about different ways to keep your firearms in storage and how to maintain them. I think it’s pretty obvious the importance of firearm storage and having the ability to protect your firearms. Security is obviously a reason, but protecting your investments is another great reason to make sure you have a quality safe for your firearms. I have been asked questions about where to put your gun safe and how to keep guns less susceptible to rust due to moisture. There are a number of ways to help flight against rust and moisture in gun safes.

TFB Review: Crosstac Precision Long Range Shooting Mat and Saddle Bag

With summer now in full swing, this is the perfect time to get out and do some long range rifle shooting.  Usually, this is where I find myself behind a cozy bench with a Range Safety Officer (RSO) nearby.  This is all good and fun, but it just doesn’t come close to shooting in the great outdoors.  Ditching a local range with its cozy bench is not without its downsides, and I quickly found myself in the market for a shooting mat and bag.  Lucky for me, Crosstac was willing to send over their Precision Long Range Shooting Mat and Saddle Bag Shooting Rest for review.
