Over the last couple of months, people have asked me what’s the best way to carry rifle magazines at the range. The two main ways typically to carry magazines on a belt is either with a magazine pouch or molded Kydex carrier. Both ways can be extremely useful depending on the application. For this article, I’ll be looking at the High Speed Gear Industries Taco mag carrier system, but other general magazine soft pouches can be included in this.

The firearms industry produces its fair share of, shall we say, “niche” products. Plinking is fun. That’s all there is to it. For all the training, competing, hunting and drilling we do, shooting “just for fun” is something that we probably don’t do often enough. Paper targets are great for honing your accuracy, exposing bad habits or sighting in a new scope. But nothing quite compares to shooting a reactive target – especially with a rimfire round like .22LR or . 17HMR. Today on the Rimfire Report I’m going to list out 5 of my all-time favorite plinking targets.

Just last week word went out from the  Consumer Products Safety Commission that there has been a Blackhawk recall for the new T-series holster. The holster design can change the position of the safety switch on the firearm without the user knowing it. This could lead to a negligent discharge when drawn.

In my previous articles, I’ve talked about why it’s important to have some sort of light when concealed carrying whether it’s a weapon-mounted light or some sort of handheld light. When concealed carrying, it’s important to have some sort of light source if you’re going out with a handgun at night. A common question I often get is whether to have night sights or fiber optic with a light. There can different ways to look at what kind of sights work best at night time.

When thinking about hard and soft rifle cases, it’s easy to just pick one without really looking at what works best. For years I picked one style of case and used it regardless of whether or not it was the best choice for me. Over the last few months, I’ve been asked several times how I pick what case to use and why. I figured this would be a perfect time to sit down and explain the uses of both styles so let’s jump into it.

With a growing number of companies making different types of fixed iron sights, I’ve been getting a ton of questions on what’s best. Some say red dot only is best while others say having fixed or back up irons to co-witness with are great too. Both styles have their advantages depending on what your needs are out of your gun. Let’s jump into what the difference is between the two systems and why they both have advantages.

There are endless debates on what flashlight is best for a rifle but not many people talk about the benefits of offset light mounts vs standard factory mounts. I didn’t think much of offset light mounts until I started using a Haley Strategic SBR Thorntail mount on my 10.5 AR Pistol. Now that I’ve had about six months under my belt with a few different offset light mounts, I’m a true believer for a number of reasons. Let’s jump into why you should consider an offset light mount.

Neomag has introduced its newest product called the Sentry Strap. This new sling strap is designed to be a sling staging strap that will help keep a single or two-point sling out of the way when storing a rifle or shooting when a sling is not needed. The design consists of a nylon strap with two strong magnets keeping the strap and sling in place and out of the way. The real party piece to the Sentry Strap is the ability to pull the sling with minimal pressure to have the magnets release. When the magnets release, the sling drops free giving a shooter the ability to freely use the sling. After a short phone call with NeoMag, they say the Sentry Strap is ambidextrous and mainly designed for AR platforms right now.

I was intrigued so I decided to order one and give it a try. There have been more and more companies in the last decade who have started making firearm wall mounts due to increased demand from the gun community.

Earlier this year at Triggercon 2019, TFB was able to get a close look at the new ZEV Technologies O.Z-9 modular pistols. SB Tactical has become one of the larger brace manufacturers for the gun industry. They make braces for most of the popular firearm models available today. There are a few very common braces that are some of SB Tactical’s most popular called the SBM4 and SBA3. As TriggrCon 2019 was winding down on its last day, I came across Night Fision. For those who are unaware, Night Fision comes from… Night Vision + Nuclear Fission = Night Fision. Although they always have top-notch sights on hand, I had not realized they had brought with something new to TriggrCon. While out at the TriggrCon Range Day for 2019 there were guns galore, but there were also a lot of interesting aftermarket accessories for some of our most popular firearm platforms as well. Range belts are typically something that will polarize shooters and having half of you with pitchforks and torches yelling to burn the mall ninjas to death. I want to go through a few different setups about range belts. Whether it’s a minimalist carry belt or a full range belt, it really depends on your preferences. Range belts can be a great aid for training at the range efficiently with less time at the bench and more time at the range.

Lately, I’ve had a number of conversations about different ways to keep your firearms in storage and how to maintain them. I think it’s pretty obvious the importance of firearm storage and having the ability to protect your firearms. Security is obviously a reason, but protecting your investments is another great reason to make sure you have a quality safe for your firearms. I have been asked questions about where to put your gun safe and how to keep guns less susceptible to rust due to moisture.
