Hornady recently announced a new line of monolithic expanding copper alloy bullet line named CX Bullets for short. The CX line isn’t Hornady’s first go at monolithic copper expanding projectiles and is said to be an improvement on the GMX bullet. The CX line will be offered in nine rifle calibers being produced for the launch, some of which have several grain weight offerings. The CX bullets feature a heat-resistant polymer tip to assist in expanding the solid copper alloy bullet upon entering game animals, and meet regulations in areas that require lead-free ammunition.

Remington Ammunition has reintroduced the classic Peters Premier Blue paper shotgun shell line. The 12 gauge shells are available in shot sizes 7.5 and 8 and at muzzle velocities of 1145, 1200 and 1290. The Peters Paper Shotshells have an MSRP of $19.99 for a box of 25 cartridges. The news comes as Remington Ammunition continues to realign itself after the break up of Remington Outdoor Company in 2020. In April the company’s president announced ammunition production was back in ‘full swing’.

Ammunition has returned to the shelves but at much higher prices than we saw them leave with. While the price hike to meet demand in these trying times hardly seems fair to most of us, it is simply just the reality we live in right now (and don’t even get me started on primers). Right now towards the end of this crazy year, I’m just happy that I can walk into the store and still find ammunition on shelves, and aside from a few particularly hot cartridges, most kinds of ammo are in stock and seem to be remaining at more or less stable pricing. Small arms ammunition has seen its fair share of ups and downs in terms of both price and availability over the last couple of years but that hasn’t stopped the insatiable appetite of our armed forces and their need for reliability and quality ammunition for training and mission duties. Winchester, the largest manufacturer of small arms ammunition for the United States Military recently announced that they have been awarded a $13 million contract for the 7.62mm cartridge (presumably M80 ball).

It seems that everyone who starts hunting or shooting sooner or later starts reloading. Some start reloading to save money some do it purely to get better precision. For some, reloading seems to become an even bigger interest than the shooting itself. Regardless, a high-performance scale is always a help and Creedmoor Sports has now released their new TRX-925 Precision Reloading Scale with the ability to read down to 0.01 grains.

APEX Ammunition has announced their Upland Bird TSS shotshells are now available. The new non-toxic handloaded, ultra-high density Tungsten Super Shot loads have an MSRP of $49.99 – $65.99 (per 10 round box). APEX Ammunition have made Upland Bird available in 3-inch 12- and 20-gauge loads. Upland 28 gauge 2 ¾-inch and .410 bore 2 ½ and 3-inch loads are available upon request.

With governments increasingly tackling potential sources of environmental pollution, we’re seeing ammunition manufacturers being required to offer greener options. Fiocchi Munizioni, together with the recently acquired Baschieri & Pellagri, is acting preemptively against potential restrictions on plastic wads, thanks to the development of a biodegradable, yet high-performance polymer.

DS Arms, best known for their FAL platform firearms, is bringing new M193 spec 5.56 ammunition to market.  Manufactured in India by their Military Ordnance Factories, the new ammunition has quite a bit of international flavor to its components. Per DS Arms:

North Carolina-based Blackwater Worldwide will be launching a new fundraising program to benefit the folks over at the Firearms Policy Coalition and their efforts to challenge several anti-second amendment policies across the nation in various states. Blackwater plans to support the FPC by donating a portion of its ammunition sales to the organization and bringing more awareness to the FPC’s efforts.

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This week we are continuing this ongoing series by going over a type of ammunition I recently discovered from SK Ammunition. The new SK High Velocity Match 22LR ammunition claims to be able to help those competing in Rimfire Precision Series or NRL22 matches to reach out to farther targets with more confidence. The precision rimfire shooters in the crowd will no doubt know the disadvantages that high-velocity rimfire ammunition has when it comes to long-distance engagements, however, today on the rimfire report I sought out to test if this more budget-friendly ammunition could compete with some of what I consider to be the best ammunition for precision rimfire that are already on the market.

Following the tragic shooting death of the cinematographer of the movie “ Rust“, Alec Baldwin Tweeted “Every film/TV set that uses guns, fake or otherwise, should have a police officer on set, hired by the production, to specifically monitor weapons safety.” On the surface, it’s easy to see why someone outside of the firearms community would suggest this, police officers carry guns every day, right? It makes sense that Alec Baldwin, unintentional shooter of Halyna Hutchins would be looking for answers and remedies to his situation. Let’s explore his suggestion about hiring police officers to inspect on-set firearms in the film industry.

True Velocity have announced the acquisition of LoneStar Future Weapons. Texas-based LoneStar Future Weapons were the start-up company which, with True Velocity’s backing, took over the technical data package of General Dynamics-OTS’ RM277 entry into the US Army’s Next Generation Squad Weapons program. This means that their will now have been three separate companies responsible for the RM277 rifle and automatic rifle since the NGSW program began.

For the environmentally-conscious hunters out there, perhaps for our Japanese friends who have seen recent sanctions on lead-based ammunition, HEVI Shot has just announced the addition of a new non-toxic dove hunting load for avian hunters. The new HEVI-Hammer Bismuth-Steel shotshells are the latest and greatest from the well-established shotgun shell manufacturer and are specifically designed for smaller upland game birds like dove.

The legendary Mossberg 590 has just received an all-new lineup that is now compatible with a wide variety of shotgun shells from 3″ magnums all the way down to the tiny 1.75″ mini shells. It’s no secret that the ammunition market has been volatile (to say the least) since the Covid pandemic took hold, but some calibers seem to be easing off while others rise. Redditor, Chainwaxologist, owns a web-based hunting and fishing retail store, FoundryOutdoors.com, so to keep his ammo cost and supply competitive, he set out to track the ammo cost trends of the most popular calibers. Chainwaxologist used his findings to create a handy graph to show these trends in a friendly one-stop format to help us visualize the data. Chainwaxologist’s observations can be read below.

True Velocity are continuing to steadily expand their composite cased .308 Win ammo range with a new round loaded with a 165-grain Nosler AccuBond bullet. The first run of .308 True Velocity ammunition became publicly available back in August, following a number of years in development and production in support of the then-General Dynamics-OTS entry into the US Army’s Next Generation Squad Weapon program.

The Japanese Ministry of the Environment has announced that they will begin gradually regulating the use of lead ammunition beginning in 2025 in order to prevent the poisoning of wild birds. Hunting has become quite popular in the island nation, however, authorities in the prefecture of Hokkaido have already enacted a similar lead ammunition ban back in 2000. This most recent Japan Lead Ammunition ban comes as a response to a survey conducted that showed that lead poisoning was present in several species after lead pellets were consumed by waterfowl.

Hodgdon Powder Company, Inc. the owners of the GOEX and Olde Eynsford black powder brands, have announced that they will shut down their black powder manufacturing arm and close their manufacturing operations in Camp Minden, Louisiana. The news will come as a shock to black powder shooters and reloaders who rely on GOEX and Olde Eynsford products.

It is with deep sadness that we have to report that the legendary founder of Berger Bullets – Walter Berger has passed away at the age of 92. The leader of the popular bullet company, Walter Berger was also a member of the Benchrest Hall of Fame where he achieved membership in 1982 and was also an avid competitive shooter where he famously used his own bullets for several of his competition wins.

Primers disappeared from the shelves for quite some time and are now only just starting to show back up on the shelves in limited quantities. We are already in the midst of trying times when it comes to ammunition. Not only are things currently hard to come by and overpriced but we now have numerous reports that several nefarious individuals are mimicking real-world ammunition producers and tricking their customers into buying non-existent ammunition. When it comes to hunting big-game one of the most trusted offerings of ammunition on the market for decades has been Remington Core-Lokt. It is affordable, offered in a multitude of common cartridges, and delivers strong performance when it matters most. Now, Remington has announced a new series of ammunition dubbed Core-Lokt Tipped that takes their “deadliest mushroom in the woods” and makes it even more potent on game animals.

Utah-based company Virtus Ammo will become the first certified ammunition distributor for True Velocity’s products. Virtus Ammo will bring True Velocity’s composite-cased .308 ammunition, which was recently introduced onto the market, to stores.
