It’s no secret, the Glock isn’t perfect. Could there really be 8 reasons why the 1911 is better than Glock? Probably not, but Patrick tries like hell to come up with a couple legitimate reasons in this episode of TFBTV.

Ergo Grips recently announced a new armorer’s tool for most Glock pistols. Called the Modular Armorers Stand, or MAST, the tool is a stand system that allows you to secure your Glock pistol to a bench through the magazine well.

Most people take for granted the simple, yet effective firing mechanism of the Glock pistols. And to his credit, Gaston did design and build an incredibly robust system that is one of the few portions of the Generation 5 handguns that did not see significant changes. The cruciform, trigger, and disconnector, combined with the slide cuts is a safe and reliable system.

Where the Generation 5 Glocks no include a concealed-carry ready flared magazine well, there are literally millions of handguns out there with the sharp and hard plastic edges of “perfection” (at least as it was defined for nearly three decades). Stock Glock magwells have certainly left something to be desired.

Remember those awesome Glock Mag Dual End Plates I posted a few months back? The ones that all the operators are sporting these days, if not they will be soon. Well here’s another variant from an even more tactical company called Diplomacy Failure Inc., yes that’s really their name. They call their dual mag setup the H.O.G. Magazine Alternate Plate System. H.O.G is short for Hand of God, named that “for it is as swift as it is terrible”. It really does say that in their marketing materials.

If one were falling for the marketing hype, they might seem to believe that the release of the Generation 5 Glock is a big deal… Sadly, its not just Glock trying to push removal of maligned finger grooves and flared magazine well as a basically new handgun, other companies are piling on as well.

It is now officially official – The GLOCK Gen5 is announced by way of a press release, a new web page and a video commercial. Yes, we did go through all of the details on the new pistols last week, however now that they are available for sale, buyers have an official resource to reference all the weights and measures.

Kalashnikov Concern recently released a new English language video regarding their PL-15K compact pistol, MP-444 pistol, AM-17 and AMB-17 compact assault rifles, and SVCh semiautomatic sniper rifle. By way of a walkthrough from Kalashnikov Concern technical consultant Vladimir Onokoy, the video offers English speakers an important look at the technical features of the new weapons, which were until now something of a mystery to those on this side of the language barrier. We recently received an excellent opportunity to tour Apex Gun Parts, which you can read about on a recent TFB post here. During the tour we got a chance to sit down with Jeff Salvig and really ask him some in-depth questions about the surplus industry and how he got into it himself, eventually starting his company, Apex Arms. The Gen5 GLOCK pistols are set to be released publicly in both G17 and G19 models in a matter of days. And by some devine blessing from the 9mm gods, TFB is lucky enough to have two sets of the new handguns for review.

Yes, it’s real. The hotly anticipated fifth generation of GLOCK pistols is set to become publicly available in a matter of days. For die hard fans like myself, most of the features of the new Gen5 G17 and G19 models will come as little surprise – they are all found on the heavily reported ‘M’ line of government contract pistols we have all seen ad naseum over the past year. So, if you are on the edge of your seat, waiting for a ultra-dramatic reveal of a carbine, single stack G19 or a G43-sized .40S&W, you are just going to have to simmer down and adjust your expectations.

The defense magazine European Security & Defence has published an article detailing for the first time Glock’s Modular Handgun System submission and its Federal-engineered ammunition. The article – part technical overview, part interview, details the recent history of Glock’s MHS submission, the technical characteristics of their Glock 19 MHS and 23 MHS pistols, and the current feeling among Glock executives about their second place finish in the competition. I highly recommend our readers head over the the ES&D website, where they can read the full article for free in text only or PDF form. But, since I don’t want to bury the lede any more than I have, here’s what Glock’s head of International Sales, Richard Flür, had to say on the Glock MHS’s future beyond the US Army:

Our own Nathan S. gave the Neomag discreet magazine carrier a very throrough review back in June of 2015. The point of the carrier is to give an everyday concealed carry user the ability to have an extra magazine in their pocket, but in a very minimalistic manner, literally only using a magazine retainer made from rare earth magnets. To help keep the magazine in place, the retainer has wings on the sides to keep the magazine from slipping off, in addition to a rare earth magnet that actually retains the magazine to a certain degree. It isn’t an active retention system such as a velcro strapped cover, but it does a good job of holding the magazine in place and not have it slip off and bounce around in a pocket. At the same time the Neomag uses a clip to keep it secured to the outside of the pocket, but the point of this clip is made to appear like a folding knife clipped into the pocket and not a loaded magazine. Neomag does this by designing the “wings” so that the magazine itself is actually seated very low in the pocket and isn’t protruding at the top.

Wilson Combat is joining the ever-growing crowd of gunsmiths and shops that offer customization and enhancements for the ever-popular GLOCK line of pistols. Wilson Combat has been one of the premier names in 1911 custom pistols and 1911 customization for longer than I have been old enough to own a gun. The Berryville, Arkansas based company has more recently expanded into the AR-15 platform and even more recently they embraced the Beretta design by offering customization and guns.

The SIG Sauer P320 – scion of the Army’s new M17 MHS pistol – is the only handgun out of eleven different weapons to fail a comprehensive test released today by Omaha Outdoors. The testing protocol involved dropping the handguns at different angles with a primed case in the chamber (no bullet or propellant). None of the ten other handguns – which included four Glocks, two H&Ks, two S&Ws and a 1911 – tested after the P320 fired when dropped.
