Shotgun/Medical Class AAR, Lone Star Medics and Active Response Training

If you discuss home defense scenarios with fellow firearms owners, you will almost certainly get a wide variety of ideas and responses. People’s chosen defensive firearms, planning, and training will vary significantly based on their individual backgrounds and a host of other variables. In my particular circle, AR-15s and modern semi-automatic handguns tend to be the go-tos, far more than a trusty old shotgun. This is also the case for me; given my specific training and experience, I am most proficient, comfortable, and well-schooled with these types of guns. My most readily-accessible “bump in the night” firearm for a potential “Alamo” situation in my house is a suppressed, short-barrelled AR pistol with a high-quality weaponlight and optic. Where I live, it normally wouldn’t take long at all for an ambulance and law enforcement to come help me and my family in the event of a violent encounter like a home invasion. However, “normally” is the operative word – and we all know that the last couple of years have been anything but normal.

Alec Baldwin: Hollywood Should Hire Police To Monitor Prop Guns On Scene

Following the tragic shooting death of the cinematographer of the movie “ Rust“, Alec Baldwin TweetedEvery film/TV set that uses guns, fake or otherwise, should have a police officer on set, hired by the production, to specifically monitor weapons safety.” On the surface, it’s easy to see why someone outside of the firearms community would suggest this, police officers carry guns every day, right? The required training and yearly qualifications should, “qualify” them as someone in the know, yes? It makes sense that Alec Baldwin, unintentional shooter of Halyna Hutchins would be looking for answers and remedies to his situation. Let’s explore his suggestion about hiring police officers to inspect on-set firearms in the film industry.

TFB Armorer's Bench: Understanding Auto-5 Friction Ring Orientation

Welcome everyone to the TFB Armorer’s Bench! As mentioned in the little blurb, this series will focus on a lot of home armorer and gunsmith activities. In this article sponsored by  WheelerTiptonCaldwell, and  Frankford Arsenal, I happened to do a little maintenance on an old Browning Auto-5 that I own and while disassembling and reassembling, I thought to myself that it may be beneficial if I did an Armorer’s Bench on how the friction rings work and the proper way of setting them up in accordance with whatever load you intend to use. When I say “friction rings” I may be referring to the recoil assembly as a whole purely for simplification. All that being said, let’s dive right into proper Auto-5 friction ring orientation!
