Photo Of The Day – We take a look at the Australian F88 Austeyr, the Austrian Steyr AUG STG-77 lookalike. The pictures are from the 2020 Army Skill at Arms Meeting Champion Shot, a competition to test the skills of shooters through realistic and challenging scenarios. We see an Australian Army soldier from the 2nd Cavalry Regiment as he takes a sight picture during the moving target serial. Note how compact the F88 is despite its 16″ barrel.

As a bonus, you get a short story and hopefully, you’ll learn or see something new. Today the Heckler & Koch G36, a standard-issue rifle for the Spanish Army, is on offer. Note that these rifles do not have a red dot mounted. The pictures are from Camp Ādaži in Latvia, very close to the capital Riga.

Davidson’s and Savage Arms have partnered up to produce an exclusive new version of the Savage 110 Magpul Hunter rifle. This new rifle features an exclusive 22″ barrel further extending the performance of the 6.5 Creedmoor cartridge. Additional options will also be available with threaded barrels and chamberings in .308 Winchester. The Davidson’s Exclusive Savage 110 Magpul Hunter rifle should be available at the time of writing and also shipping from Davidson’s distributor network to local FFLs.

Springfield Armory is known for a bevy of new firearms in the news as of late. They surprisingly brought to market a bullpup in the Hellion, they now are crafting bolt-action rifles with their Waypoint, and even have one of the hottest selling CCW pistols on the market with the Hellcat. Let’s not forget that they make the iconic M1A rifle as well. In fact, they recently have debuted a new Desert FDE M1A in a standard and Scout Squad configuration as an NBS-exclusive offering.

The latest addition to Merkel’s Helix line of rifles is the Merkel Helix Carbon. As its name implies, the new Helix Carbon features carbon fiber furniture which is what sets it apart from its siblings in the Helix family. Let’s take a closer look.

The Finnish firearms manufacturer Sako has just announced that their SAKO TRG M10 rifle has been selected as the new Canadian Multi-Calibre Sniper Weapon (MCSW). The purpose of the MCSW program was to replace the current .338 Lapua Magnum C14 Rifle (introduced in 2005), with a rifle that would be capable of swapping between the more expensive .338 Lapua Magnum cartridge and the less expensive standard 7.62mm NATO cartridge. Sako will now begin the process of delivering the TRG M10 rifles to the Canadian Department of National Defense’s Army.

About 10 percent of the United States population is left-handed but only a handful of rifles out there make accommodation for this. However, more and more firearms, including rifles, are now being released and tailored for left-handed shooters. Joining this effort is the new left-handed CZ 457 rimfire rifles including the CZ 457 American chambered in 22LR or 22WMR, and the CZ 457 Varmint chambered in 22LR. These new offerings come with adjustable triggers, Turkish walnut stocks, and of course, left-handed bolts and updated left-handed controls.

After that, it’s pretty much picking out and selecting the components you want that will work with your build and assembling everything. But what if you wanted to make a truly custom AR? One that foregoes the conventional terms of what a firearms “part” is? Well, once again, we have our good friend and dedicated reader Stubbs here to show us the way it’s done. Stubbs is proud to introduce his latest DIY creation, the StAr-15 Open Source AR15 Upper Receiver Firearm. The goal of the StAr-15 is to take the general operating principle of the “standard” AR-15 rifle and make it as inexpensive as possible and also avoid any registered firearms parts. Today we’ll be taking a look at the StAr-15 and how Stubbs cobbled this random assemblage of parts into a functioning DIY firearm.

Anderson Manufacturing unveiled their new AM10 Gen2 at this year’s NRAAM.  Three different variants of this new DPMS-pattern design were on display with various barrel lengths.  I sat down with representatives from Anderson to go over these three new models at NRAAM 2022.

FN America will be displaying MultiCam SCARs at the 151st NRA Annual Meeting. The rifles are the same as usual – SCAR 16S, 17S and the 20S commercial variants – with Crye Precision’s original MultiCam pattern applied hydrographically to the receiver and the trigger module frame.

The ultralightweight and ultra controllable complete TACCOM 22RF upper is finally here and available for purchase. For those who don’t know, the TACCOM 22RF upper or Complete Signature Upper for AR15-22LR  is a dedicated 22LR upper receiver, barrel, and bolt combo that integrates seamlessly with any mil-spec AR15 223/5.5.56 lower receiver. The company uses ultralightweight components to offer the user a sub-3-pound 22LR upper option for fun plinking or a lightweight training experience using a similar manual of arms to a standard AR-15 rifle.

Ever since photography was invented in the early 1800s, it has been a medium of limitless possibilities. Today most people have at least a smartphone to capture what’s going on around, and the professionals use even more advanced cameras and optics. At TFB we’ve been running our Photo Of The Day for years, where we share the best photos with firearms. Today we’re looking at images from the  35e régiment d’infanterie in France. The images are from Operation Sentinel in Dijon, France. We see a combination of the soon-to-be-phased-out bullpup FAMAS and the new Heckler & Koch HK416F as the soldier patrol the streets.

FN America have announced the introduction of their new FN 15 DMR3 rifles. Chambered in 5.56x45mm, the new DMR3 has an 18-inch hybrid profile barrel with a 1:8 twist and is available in matte black anodized, factory Cerakote flat dark earth (FDE) or tungsten gray finishes. The rifle comes with a Geissele two-stage G2S trigger and SureFire ProComp muzzle brake.

Praised by many professional hunters of the golden age of Safaris and Shikars, the Farquharson pattern falling block single shot rifles are extremely robust and lightweight firearms that have been produced by most of the British deluxe gunmakers at some point in their history. John Rigby & Co. have revived this type of action in their line of hunting rifles by introducing a limited edition run of Farquharson action falling block rifles. These new Rigby falling block rifles are designed for dangerous game hunting and will be offered chambered in .416 Rigby No. 2 cartridge only.

Precise rifles can take one of two methods depending on your task. On the one end are very heavy guns used for competition and on the other hand, are more nimble lightweight guns like the new Vudoo Gun Works Carbon Sinister. This new carbon fiber stocked rifle weighs in between 6lbs and just a touch under 8lbs depending on the options selected. This new precision rimfire rifle is Vudoo Gun Works’ first offering for hunting and sport shooting enthusiasts who want a precise yet lighter weight rimfire rifle to carry along with them. However, Vudoo states that this rifle is still precise enough to straddle both the competition and hunting spheres of the rimfire world.

Luth-AR has released a new chassis for the Ruger 10/22 and its clone actions. The new chassis is called MCA-22 (MCA stands for Modular Chassis Assembly). According to the company, this chassis is great for casual plinking, Tactical 22 matches, Steel Challenge, Practical Rimfire Challenge matches, or getting started in NRL22 competitions. New Ultralight Arms, LLC, manufacturers of lightweight bolt action hunting rifles, will be joining Wilson Combat’s family of companies. The transition will see the production of New Ultralight Arms rifles move from West Virginia to the Wilson Combat plant in Arkansas. The move is part of Wilson’s expansion with the announcement of new facilities and production made last year.

Lone Star Future Weapons have lodged a formal complaint with the U.S. Government Accountability Office (the GAO) against the US Army’s selection of SIG Sauer’s Next Generation Squad Weapons submission.  On 19 April the US Army announced the selection of SIG’s MCX 6.8 Spear as the XM5 Rifle and the LMG-6.8 belt-fed as the XM250. SIG Sauer’s entries to the program beat out the entry from Lone Star Future Weapons, which submitted the RM277 bullpup rifle.
