Meet the G95A1 & G95KA1 – the German Army's New Rifles

Last week we reported that the German government had allotted funds for the Bundeswehr’s procurement of its new rifle – the G95A1. Heckler & Koch have now released a statement and some photographs of the Bundeswehr’s new rifles. The new The ‘System Sturmgewehr Bundeswehr’ or Bundeswehr Assault Rifle System will be made up of two variants of the HK416 – the G95A1, with a 16.5 inch barrel and the G95KA1 carbine variant which will have a 14 inch barrel. The A1 designation suffix has likely been chosen to differentiate it from the HK416A7 variant, with a 14.5 inch barrel, which is already  in use with Germany’s Special Forces Command – the KSK.

POTD: The Blaser R8 Carbon Success with "Extras"

Photo Of The Day: Just before last Christmas I came extremely close to buying a Blaser R8 Carbon Success. I’m still surprised I didn’t go for it, as I’m useless at resisting new firearms and gear. Feel the same? The price could have been what made me think twice, and I don’t even dare to look at what they’re going for now after the price increase(s).

The Rimfire Report: Why Your 10/22 Rifle is Inaccurate

Hello everyone and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is all about the rimfire firearm world and its various firearms, shooting sports, ammunition types, and history! Last week on The Rimfire Report we talked about the historical significance of what was collectively known as gallery guns – basically versions of rifles and pistols that could somewhat safely be fired indoors for recreational purposes. In a lot of ways this sport lives on today in the form of air rifles in the garage or back yard at home, or sometimes even at carnivals in the form of full-auto air guns with a chance to win prizes. No matter how you approach plinking, it’s still fun and I suppose even the type of firearm (or air rifle) that you use is still irrelevant, sometimes people just want to have fun while shooting. On the flip side of things, some people are always looking for that extra bit of accuracy they can squeeze out of their rifles and pistols. Ruger 10/22 rifles aren’t exactly known for being “accurate” rifles. In fact, precision shooters or those with exceedingly high standards might go as far as to call them inaccurate.  That’s why today we’re going to go over a couple of basic reasons why your factory 10/22 22LR rifle or Charger Pistol may not be producing the groups you expected, and how you might go about improving that accuracy without spending a couple thousand dollars on a precision rifle.

TFB Review: Springfield Armory Saint Victor 9mm Carbine

The world of pistol caliber carbines have been rising in popularity steadily over the last 10 years, whether it’s for competition shooting, fun plinking at the range or for a cheaper alternative to high ammo costs. I have a few of them and it’s always a fun time taking these PCCs out for an afternoon range session. Springfield Armory recently decided to come out with their 16″ Saint Victor Carbine chambered in 9mm. I’ve had this new carbine for almost 2 months and after a decent amount of time with it, I feel like it certainly has some advantages that not all PCCs can offer. The Rimfire Report: The Brief History of Gallery Guns

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is all about the rimfire firearm world and its many guns, shooting sports, ammunition types, and history! Last week we checked out the MaddMacs Precision MK4 Carbine. The MK4 Carbine was a blast to shoot but carried along with it a pretty steep learning curve due to just how light the rifle is. Since the initial review, I’ve opted to swap out my TANDEMKROSS Kraken MKIV lower in lieu of a factory Ruger MKIV lower – this is because I usually shoot two matches at a time and this allows me to participate in both Rimfire Pistol Open (RFPO) and Rimfire Rifle Open (RFRO) without having to bring extra tools to deal with the Kraken. If you haven’t checked out the MK4 Carbine yet, you should head on over to the MaddMacs Precision Tactical to check out the MK4 Carbine, as well as some of its other cool rimfire parts and components. Shooting the MK4 Carbine a lot over the last couple of weeks got me thinking about some of the other types of target shooting we’ve seen become popular in the United States over the years. If you rewind back far enough, you’ll eventually encounter something called a “Gallery Gun.” Gallery Guns are known by many names but put simply the class of firearm mostly consists of rifles and pistols chambered in .22 Short or 6mm Flobert and were initially used for indoor target shooting. Today we’ll check out the unique history of this type of rimfire firearm and observe how it evolved into a fairly familiar recreational shooting sport many of us participated in as children without even realizing it.

In this article, I decided to take a closer look at a cool chunk that I recently installed on my AR15. I of course am talking about the Strike Industries Collar Adjustable Gas Block. Prior to working with this particular adjustable gas block, I had no hands-on experience with them. I finally had a chance to run out to the range the other day and get to know it a little more and I felt it was a good idea to share some initial thoughts and present the product as is. Let’s dive right in!

The weapon’s stock, plastic forend and top cover aren’t present, however, the cover is probably lost and the stock/pistol grip and forend are probably destroyed by fire. Vortakt Barrel Works Invests $1.5 Million Toward Manufacturing Facility Improvement Plan

Maybe it’s my inner nerd acting up, but I find this seemingly bland press release about barrel manufacturing intriguing. The world of barrel makers is small, with only a handful of companies producing barrels for most of the well-known firearms manufacturers. Years ago I had the opportunity to tour Colt’s facilities in Hartford, Connecticut – watching the massive machines cut rifling and profile barrels was like looking back in time to the birth of the industrial age. Vortakt Barrel Works is investing $1.5M in automation processes to boost production efficiency.

The Rimfire Report: Steel Challenge with the MK4 Carbine

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! A couple of months back we took a look at the Maddmacs Precision Tactical MK4 Carbine series of rifles designed by Competition Shooter Wade Reed. The MK4 Carbine makes use of largely the same design as the Ruger MK4 pistol by virtue of it using virtually all of the same parts, just slightly altered to make the firearm a rifle rather than a pistol. The designer of the MK4 Carbine, Mr. Wade Reed recently reached out to me asking if I would be interested in taking a closer look at one of these and trying one out for myself. I happily accepted the offer to try one out and have since then had a fair amount of range time with it including two full Steel Challenge competitions that gave me a good bit of insight into the pros and cons of this lightweight platform.
