Hop and Luke took a trip down to the historic Gunsite Academy in Arizona and got a chance to shoot the new Mossberg Patriot LR Tactical out to a pretty good distance. The Patriot LR Tactical is the first chassis-style rifle in the Mossberg Patriot lineup, and is available at launch in 6.5 PRC, 6.5 Creedmoor, and .308 Winchester. We took the 6.5 PRC version out to 700 yards with the help of Gunsite’s instructors.

Joining the growing lineup of bolt-action rifles from Mossberg is the new Patriot LR Tactical. The new Patriot LR Tactical features the same twin-lug push-feed action, combined with a medium bull carbon steel threaded barrel to form a consistently reliable and accurate long-range rifle platform. The new Patriot LR Tactical will come chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor, 308 Winchester, and 6.5 PRC and all versions of the rifle will; come standard with a factory-installed 20 MOA Picatinny rail.

Colt CZ Group have signed a new Joint Venture agreement with Hungary’s state-owned defence conglomerate N7 Holdings. The joint venture will see the establishment of a new small arms production facility in Hungary to provide firearms for the Hungarian Armed Forces.

German police departments who had previously selected Haenel’s CR223 won’t have to destroy their carbines following an earlier ruling by Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court in a patent infringement case. We initially reported on the court’s ruling late last year. Haenel have now released a statement explaining their position feeling that media reporting around the case has not been as nuanced as it should be, noting that “without question, this reporting has led to uncertainty among our customers.”

The new firearms announced by Browning Arms Company for 2023 include four new configurations of the X-Bolt bolt action rifle, fifteen shotguns added to different lines of their shotguns, and three new models of the Buck Mark rimfire pistol. You can find the list of all new Browning 2023 products below. Winchester Repeating Arms have announced their 2023 new firearms. Compared to previous years, the list of new Winchester guns for this year is rather short consisting of three rimfire rifles: two wood stock versions of the Wildcat semi-auto rifle and the Xpert bolt-action rifle which was actually introduced a year ago, at SHOT Show 2022. In a surprising turn of events,  Colt announced the introduction of a bolt-action precision rifle. Since CZ’s acquisition of Colt in 2021, we have wondered in what directions we’d see Colt move and now it seems that Colt will be leveraging some of CZ’s existing expertise in precision bolt action rifle design. The CBX Precision Rifle utilises a bolt design from the CZ 600 series of rifles, pairing it with a new aluminum chassis system developed with MDT which has a 6 o’clock ACRA rail and 3 and 9 o’clock M-LOK slots.

In this episode of TFBTV, Hop takes a look at one of the lightest, most compact .308 ARs on the market: the Ruger SFAR. The SFAR or Small Frame Autoloading Rifle isn’t an AR-10 or LR-308 pattern rifle, but rather an AR-15 size rifle chambered in .308 Winchester. The 16″ barrel version of the SFAR reviewed for this video weighs in at under 7 lbs out of the box. Like most Rugers, it’s also very affordable, already available for well under the $1229 MSRP.

SIG Sauer was recently awarded a 5-year, indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract valued at $5 million to provide the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) with a new Reduced Signature Assault Rifle. The RSAR is essentially the MCX Rattler in .300BLK but with a slightly longer barrel, different gas system, and packaged with a SIG SL-series suppressor, making this, perhaps, the ultimate PDW. The search for a weapon to fit the RSAR requirement has been ongoing since 2017. SOCOM describes the RSAR as a ‘PDW system [which] will allow Operators to have maximum firepower in a concealable weapon.’

If you’ve ever been through a high-volume of fire range day or a particularly intense carbine or rifle course, you’ll inevitably have run into problems with heat coming from the barrel and transferring through the handguard. In my neck of the woods, long-range shooting and hunting is anywhere between 100 and 200 yards. Owning a 6.5 Creedmoor for use in this area makes as much sense as owning a snubby revolver chambered in .40 S&W for a CCW. But precision and accuracy are of extreme importance whether you are shooting at 50 yards or 1200 yards. Cadex Defense, known for top-shelf long-range rifles, have just announced the CDX-SS Seven S.T.A.R.S. Covert chambered in 300BLK, 223 Remington, 308 Winchester, or 6.5 CM. The 300BLK and .223 versions are available with 11-inch barrels and longer suppressors.

In 2023 I’m going to give Gas Gun Precision Rifle Series a go in a few competitions, to see what a DMR-style rifle and myself can accomplish together. All the experts have always told me that gas guns aren’t accurate enough. Bolt actions are always going to be more accurate, period. Now, I’m not saying they are wrong, but I like to try things out myself. Preferably with help from friends. Our results can be found in this article, which is not intended to be scientific. Take it for what it is, a fun day at the range with some interesting discoveries. Can a gas gun beat a bolt-action in terms of precision, or is the author on very thin ice here? Let’s see!

Fry Tech is a company at the forefront of new firearms technology and is hard at work designing and developing new technologies specifically for the GUNCAD industry – i.e. those who like to design and produce their own firearms at home using various DIY methods. Fry Tech has just announced that they will reveal their first patent-pending design – their Brujeria rifle that features a recoil-reducing electromagnet system. The Brujeria (Spanish for witchcraft) technology is said to limit the amount of recoil felt by the user which should lead to less physical stress, better comfort, and better shot accuracy.

Rifle Dynamics introduced the Quickhatch pistol at the beginning of the past year and until now it was available chambered in 7.62x39mm only. Well, the company has just announced that a version of the Quickhatch chambered in 5.45x39mm is now available too. Let’s take a closer look.

The Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court has ruled against C.G. Haenel’s appeal against the courts earlier decision that Haenel had infringed on Heckler & Koch’s patents. A statement was released by the Ministry of Justice of North Rhine-Westphalia that outlined the case and the courts ruling on 30 December.

The Ruger SFAR or Small Frame Auto-Loading Rifle was released earlier this year to the pleasure of many firearms enthusiasts including many readers of TFB. Judging from the initial responses in the comments from the product announcement, many of you seem interested in a lightweight small-frame AR-10 for hunting, and regular range use with the smaller frame of the SFAR being ideal for carrying afield and the reduced weight making it much more portable. However, I think the biggest draw that got a lot of readers excited about the SFAR was the price. The Ruger SFAR retails for an MSRP of just $1,229 for either the 20″ barrel or 16″ barrel configuration. This makes the SFAR one of the most affordable lightweight small-frame .308 semi-auto rifles on the market (many have compared the SFAR to the POF Rogue). We could go back and forth all day about pricing, feature sets, and use cases for this rifle, but what about its performance? I’ve had my own copy of the 16″ Ruger SFAR for a couple of months now and I’ve poured hundreds of rounds of .308 through it and also had the benefit of having two other TFB contributors who have the same rifle give me their performance data, meaning as opposed to a sample size of just one, we’re getting to see the performance of 3 different copies of the same rifle, which should give all of you the info you need to make an informed decision as to whether or not the Ruger SFAR is the right choice for you.

SureFire muzzle devices, especially their muzzle brakes and three-prong or four-prong flash hiders have been industry leaders for many years. The wide adoption of the SureFire SOCOM series of suppressors across the armed forces has driven the continuous refinement of flash and/or muzzle rise reduction (the WarComp family of muzzle devices combines both flash hiding and muzzle brake characteristics). For those who are more minimalist-minded, SureFire has released the SFA2-556 flash hider and SOCOM suppressor mount.
