This week we take its little brother out on the range: the 16″  SIG MCX-SPEAR LT in 5.56×45 mm paired with the SIG SLX556-QD suppressor. Let’s take a look at how it performed.

One of the highlights each year is Heckler & Koch‘s booth at EnforceTac. It’s easy to underestimate this two-day exhibition and its importance for defense and homeland security. About 8,000 people from about 70 countries come to the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg each year, which may look like a low figure but Enforce Tac is a trade fair for professionals from government agencies with security responsibilities and the armed forces only. Next year the exhibition will grow with one more exhibition hall, and one day extra, and we’re already looking forward to 2024. Heckler & Koch has its natural place here, and their booth is always crowded. In this article we will focus on the HK437 in 7″ and 9″ configurations. We wish we could take even better pictures than these, but you have to fight to even get a short glimpse of these things.

This particular partnership is right up the alley of Maxim Defense since a lot of their product lineup consists of PCCs and other firearms that might end up as Illegal SBRs almost overnight should the ATF’s most recent pistol brace ruling be passed into law.

SilencerCo has launched a new custom paint service for those who want to add some color to their suppressor. They now offer five different Cerakote finishes at a cost of $89 per suppressor. This gives you an opportunity to match your suppressor to your firearm, and yes – they do offer black as well. The Cerakote C Series Ceramic Coatings used for this application will perform at temperatures up to 1200°F (about 650° C). The “Cobra Black” uses the Cerakote V Series ceramic coatings, capable of temperatures up to 1800°F.

The IWI Negev NG-5 (“Next Generation”) is a 5.56×45mm NATO light machine gun (“LMG”) developed by Israel Weapon Industries (IWI), formerly Israel Military Industries Ltd. (IMI). In 2012, IWI introduced the Negev NG-7 7.62×51mm NATO general-purpose machine gun. In this video, Tom of IWI gives James a rundown of the Negev NG-5 and NG-7, and James gets to shoot a Negev NG-7 belt-fed in the Czech Republic with Sellier & Bellot.

With the mad rush on the pistol brace ruling by the ATF, both firearms owners and producers alike are attempting to find ways to salvage their legally possessed firearms without the need to register them under the NFA. Rifle Dynamics is now offering pistol-to-rifle conversions with an additional 20% off select rifle parts as part of their pistol-to-rifle services. This service is for those who don’t want to deal with the NFA and still want to keep their Rifle Dynamics AK without disposing of it or registering it.

Last week, the American Suppressor Association testified in the New Mexico Senate in support of the use of suppressors as hearing protection for shooters and hunters. The testimony lead to the removal of the petition that would have banned suppressors. Knox Williams, Executive Director of the ASA, educated lawmakers on the actual use of suppressors to protect hearing and that a suppressor ban would do nothing to prevent crime. If you shoot a suppressed gas gun, you’ve probably figured out that suppressors get a little toasty. I learned the hard way. To prevent burns and heat mirage, fabric wraps were the standard for a long time. Now, however, MODTAC has changed the landscape of suppressor covers. In this episode of TFBTV, James Reeves is at Sellier & Bellot ammunition factory to test out their 9×18 Makarov ammo on a true legend of a machine pistol, the APS, also known as “the Stechkin.” The Stechkin automatic pistol or APS (Avtomaticheskiy Pistolet Stechkina, Russian: Автоматический Пистолет Стечкина) is a Soviet select fire machine pistol. It bears the name of its developer, Igor Stechkin. The Stechkin has some cool features up its sleeve, so we were excited to test it out, even if we broke it on the range!

At SHOT Show 2023, PTR unveiled their range of monolithic 3D-printed Titanium suppressors. The VENT range uses additive manufacturing to avoid the possibility of weaknesses caused by welding. It has internal geometries designed to reduce blowback into the operator’s face and produce less wear and tear on the weapon system.

Safety Harbor Firearms continues to expand the lineup of Kompact Entry Stock (KES) with the addition of a Brugger & Thomet APC-9 model. Safety Harbor makes KES stocks and stabilizing braces for many popular PCC options. These include the CZ Scorpion, Grand Power Stribog, MP-5 and MP-5K, and Sig Sauer MPX. B&T has captured a large portion of the PCC market recently, so it makes sense that Safety Harbor added this model. Also, the APC-9K won the US Army Sub Compact Weapon contract in 2019.

Angstadt Arms unveiled two new no-baffle Vanquish suppressors at SHOT Show 2023.  The first was showcased on their AR-9 pattern pistols and rifles, and the second was a totally new barrel for the 10/22 family of rifles.  I had a chance to sit down with Angstadt Arms staff and get the details on these radically new suppressors.

In this episode of TFBTV, Luke C visits Thunder Beast to see their latest suppressor offerings, which include the new FLY 45 and the ULTRA50 .50 BMG can. The FLY 45 is rated for everything up to .45-70 Govt from a 16″ barrel while the ULTRA50 turns the relentless concussion and noise from the .50 BMG round into a much more manageable 130 dB report.

The Hushpuppy Beretta pistol is a holy grail for some. A few years ago, Knights Armament opened up their vaults and sold a limited run of these pistols. They sold for $8,500. Well for those of you who missed out on the Knight’s Armament XM9 Hushpuppy there will be an alternate solution coming soon. Josh Rowe of Allegheny Gun Works (AGW) is working on his own XM9 Hushpuppy project.

When it comes to suppressing a 12 gauge shotgun, there are not a lot of options. Most people know of the Salvo12 but it has its compromises. JK Armament has come out with their SGX shotgun suppressor and it is a lot lighter than the Salvo12.

At this year’s SHOT Show Alabama-based Advanced Armament Company (AAC) showcased their two new robust suppressors, the Ranger 5 and the Ranger 7. The Ranger 5 is designed for .223/5.56x45mm rifles while the Ranger 7 is designed for rifles chambered in 7.62x51mm and .300 Win Mag. Both are full auto rated and have removable front end caps.
