POTD: WWII Bomber – Suppressed Volquartsen

Photo Of The Day: Decorated and Cerakoted by Blowndeadline, we have a Volquartsen .22LR with some hush-hush from Rugged Suppressors. The paint scheme is inspired by a WWII Bomber, then laser engraved and filled. I would love to take this gun to the next Steel Challenge, well perhaps without the suppressor so that the timers can record anything (ask me how I know).

The Rimfire Report: SilencerCo Switchback Modular Suppressor

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is all about the rimfire firearm world and its various guns, gear, accessories, ammunition, and well, suppressors! Suppressors are a great safety device for keeping your hearing in peak condition or at the very least, preventing further damage from occurring. Even though a lot of rimfire cartridges are fairly quiet even without suppressors, other rimfire cartridges like .17 HMR, .17 HM2, 5mm RFM, and .17 WSM can be insanely loud at the ear. While I don’t suspect most of you are firing those cartridges in high volume like you would .22LR, they can still pose a significant hearing damage risk even with just a handful of unprotected shots while out hunting small game. That’s why it always helps to have a rimfire suppressor ready to mount when you need it. I was fortunate enough to be able to receive a demo copy of the SilencerCo Switchback modular rimfire suppressor and I have been testing it on a variety of my rimfire guns to get a feel for how it works, what I like about it, and what I think its best suited for.

3rd Day of TFB Christmas: Santa's Silent Night with Suppressors

With some great changes coming to the ATF Forms system, buying a suppressor is getting easier by the day. I don’t necessarily have any hope that wait times will come down by a significant amount but I’m at least happy that the agency is moving in a direction that at least makes it easier for us to get our part done before we sit on our hands for 9 months waiting for that approval letter to come back. I’ve been doing a lot of talking with gun owners from across the world to figure out what gun culture and gun law is like in other parts of the world and to my surprise, it’s almost universally agreed upon in nearly every country besides the United States that suppressors are a safety device rather than a mythical silent murdering tool that is used by Agent 47 and other shiny headed assassins. If you’ve yet to take the plunge into NFA territory, then maybe this Christmas is a perfect time for a silent night and by that, I mean buying your first suppressor. Today we’ll go over some of my top suppressor picks for everything from rimfire up to magnum rifle calibers.

Optics are a core part of any firearm build and the 12 Days of TFB Christmas is a great time to pick up a new optic for all those new rifles and pistols I know you have on your Christmas list. Hop of TFBTV and myself have been talking shop about the optics side of the industry for months now and I’m personally convinced that we are beyond spoiled for choice these days when it comes to both inexpensive and quality optics (sometimes both at the same time). EuroOptic is currently going through a pretty massive sale on all of their optics and we’re for sure going to take advantage of that! Whether you’re looking for a long-range scope for taking down game or a red dot sight to jump into the carry optics field then we should have you covered with today’s listings. Let us know if you find any great deals on optics you like down in the comments below! Oh, and don’t forget to work off that Christmas ham with some flat range training!

POTD: NATO Snipers in Competition

It was really hard to select a featured picture for today’s Photo Of The Day since they’re all amazing examples of NATO snipers. The variety of equipment, firearms, lasers, mounts and optics is pretty huge, but what’s really interesting to see is army snipers picking up the “craftmanship” used by Precision Rifle Series shooters and in competitions. I guess it works!

Support The Team: ASA Silent Night Raffle For Big Prizes

The American Suppressor Association is the only organization that is dedicated to protecting and advancing silencer ownership in America. Through education and legislative support, the ASA has helped to legalize suppressor ownership and enabled the use of suppressors while hunting in several states. Obviously, this is a cause that is important to me personally; I believe that every gun owner should own at least one suppressor (three is better). Support the cause by participating in the ASA Silent Night Raffle and have a chance at winning some great prizes donated by great companies. Don’t wait, the contest ends on 12/16/2021 at 11:59PM EST.

The Armourer's Bench Tests The Bren Sniper Scene From "Siege Of Jadotville"

If you’ll recall my article The Irish Guns Of ‘The Siege Of Jadotville’ Movie , I questioned a curious Bren sniper scene in which an Irish sniper makes a decisive move from his No 4. Lee Enfield scoped sniper rifle to the Bren light machine gun in order to make a precise shot on a man directing the opposing force. The Bren gun does have the reputation of being one of the most accurate machine guns but was not issued as a sniper variant. Thus, the scene, visually appealing as it was, drew scepticism from readers and authors alike. One of TFB’s Managing Editors, Matt Moss, who also runs The Armourer’s Bench blog and YouTube channel, set out to test the plausibility of this choice of weaponry. Let’s take a look at what Matt and friends discovered.

SILENCER SATURDAY #200: Top 10 AR-10 Suppressors

Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the 200th edition of TFB’s Silencer Saturday. After 200 weekends of suppressor love, I hope you are more informed, slightly entertained, and are able to make better purchase decisions. Thank you for proving me wrong – with millions of views, TFB’s Silencer Saturday owes its success to all of you. Thank you for tuning in every weekend. (We’ll get to the top 10 AR-10 suppressors in a moment).

BOLO: Otter Creek Labs Suppressors And Muzzle Devices

No, that is not an Allen Engineering AEM5 over-the-barrel suppressor pictured above. That is an OCM5 from Otter Creek Labs, a relatively new and up-and-coming manufacturer causing a stir in the world of rifle suppressors. The quietest 5.56 silencer I have ever shot is the AEM5 on the end of an MK12 – it almost makes you believe that ‘hearing safe’ is a label that can be applied to supersonic rifle rounds. Now the Otter Creek team has set out to modernize the iconic Allen Engineering suppressor by making it quieter, lighter and with less backpressure.

TFB Podcast Roundup 16: Soul-Less Guns and Suppressors

Welcome to TFB Podcast Roundup 16! Working within the gun industry as a writer, I find myself jumping from subject to subject very often, and it’s not until I run into a review item or a specific rifle or pistol that I end up going down the hundreds of rabbit holes that exist within the gun-o-sphere. I have a recently released rifle headed over to me for review and a core component of my setup is going to include a suppressor. Knowing this I looked up a bunch of podcasts to get a good read on what type of suppressors everyone is using for each of their applications to figure out what was “optimal” within the confines of my review. So this week I’m going to share with you a few different podcasts that have to do with suppressors/silencers and hopefully each of them will offer you a different form of value other than the standard suppressor talking points – I thought they all did for me.
