Getting Quiet: Redefining The Integrally Suppressed Rifle

There are many suppressed rifles with permanently attached silencers on the market, but what exactly is an integrally suppressed rifle (ISR). When I think integrally suppressed, I think of the suppression system built directly into the barrel. A good example of this is the Curtis Tactical 9mm bolt gun that Pete reviewed for TFB’s Silencer Saturday. Let’s redefine the ISR in a way that still allows the suppressor to be used on other platforms.

Gemtech Introduces the Integra 15-22 Suppressed .22LR Upper

The only thing that makes plinking with .22LR more fun is the addition of one of two things – full-auto or a suppressor. The people over at Gemtech probably agree which is why they are excitedly announcing the release of  Integra 15-22 Suppressed upper for the M&P 15-22 rifle.

F-1 Firearms' New Suppressors Available at Silencer Shop

Texas-based F-1 Firearms has emerged in recent years as a manufacturer looking to be different. Most notably, to this end, the signature feature on most of their guns and components tends to be significant skeletonizing. Although they’re not the only company putting out skeletonized parts, no one else seems to be making it their primary distinguishing hallmark, or to be using this style so prolifically. The practice is not without its doubters and detractors, but nonetheless, it has gone a long way toward putting F-1 Firearms on the map. Now this bold young company is looking to make a name in another sector of the market. As they advertised at SHOT Show 2020, F-1’s new line of suppressors is now out, and Silencer Shop has announced that three models are currently available through them.

SILENCER SATURDAY #157: 300BLK Vs. 7.62×39 – The Dead Air Nomad LT

Good afternoon stealthy shooters and welcome back to another edition of TFB’s Silencer Saturday brought to you by Yankee Hill Machine, home of the new NITRO N2O modular rifle suppressor. Last week we explored the inherent problems with federal agencies interpreting laws that are rooted in subjective characteristics. Short Barrel Rifles, Machine Guns and Silencers all rely on extremely grey area interpretations (might as well drop the restrictions all together). This week we shift gears back into a review – the Dead Air Nomad LT combines the weight savings of the Nomad T with the added length of the Nomad L – both of which are fantastic suppressors.

ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS: 1874 Sharps Rifle, M1 Carbine Paratrooper and More

As I get older and the world changes in so many ways, one thing that thankfully always feels the same to me is Christmas and the holiday season in general. Whether it is decorating the tree or chatting with my family, there is always something that makes me think back to when I was younger and Santa was a thing. I remember the top three things on my list as a kid; a Daisy Red Ryder bb gun, a plasma ball, and a paintball gun. Santa only felt like a Red Ryder was good enough so that is what I ended up with and as beat to crap, as it is, I still have it and cherish it as much as the day I opened it up.

ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS: Quiet Silent Night Edition

I’ve come a long way in the 25 some odd years I’ve been playing around with firearms. As a child, all I wanted was the simple stuff, more ammo, some soda cans to shoot at, and time out on the range with my buddies and my dad. Although quality range time with loved ones and friends is certainly high on the priority list, my desires in regards to the firearms and equipment have drastically changed. Sometimes all it takes is a small taste of what you don’t have to get you constantly thinking of ways to rearrange your checking account in order to get that next item on your list. Well, for me, these three items may be a ways off but Christmas miracles can happen, right? Here’s hoping for a quiet silent night in my firearms future.

Open Source Defense: On The ATF, NFA Laws And Regulations

As we discussed yesterday, the comment period is open for the ATF’s proposed rulemaking on certain pistol stabilizing braces. While it is easy to believe that our comments will be ignored and will not effect the outcome, I believe making our voices heard is an important part of the process. I submitted my comment yesterday and dedicated half of it to the fact that laws surrounding the ownership of property are inherently unjust. Our friends at Open Source Defense have made a cleaner, more succinct argument that needs repeating. The NFA laws and regulations are unfair and built on a weak foundation from a 1934 attempt to ban handguns using an exorbitant tax.

SILENCER SATURDAY #156: ATF Rulemaking – From Braces To Silencers

Good morning everyone and welcome back to TFB’s Silencer Saturday brought to you by Yankee Hill Machine, manufacturers of the new YHM NITRO N20 lightweight, modular, multi-caliber suppressor. We got an initial look at the NITRO N20 last week and I promise to bring you additional testing in the weeks ahead. This week we need to talk about ATF Rulemaking and the impact it can have on other aspects of NFA regulations. Believe me, I’m tired of writing about near soul-crushing topics and would rather be slinging sone heavy subsonic lead quietly downrange. But unfortunately we have some important business  to discuss – there are unconfirmed reports that solvent trap/Form 1 kit manufacturer Diversified Machine was raided by the ATF.

ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS: Silent Night Edition – Dead Air Nomad-TI

Besides the total repeal of the NFA, all I want for Christmas is a Dead Air Nomad-Ti Silencer.  The Nomad-Ti, based on specs alone, is up at the pinnacle of lightweight .30 cal cans. The added plaudits from TFB Honchos James and Pete don’t hurt, either.  A lightweight can that can handle high-pressure calibers up to .300 Norma Mag would be a great addition to my can collection, as I have some longer barreled firearms, such as the Sako Carbon Wolf in .300 Win Mag, that don’t take kindly to a lot of weight being put on the end of a long, slimmer barrel.

ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS: A Belt-Fed FN M249S And More

Sitting on Santa’s lap as an adult is a completely different experience from when you were a young kid. Back then you had no money, completely dependent on your parents for any sort of commercially available goods and services. As a grown-up, you have the means and ability to save your cash and (eventually) buy the things you want. So, for me, bending the Big Man’s ear is all about semi-realistic hopes and dreams. I’m not swinging for the fences asking for a transferable MP5, a 10K of ammo or a Dillon Aero minigun. All I want for Christmas is an FN M249S, an H&K MK23 with a KAC suppressor and an LMT M203 40mm grenade launcher. Now that I think about it, my mid-life Christmas list is almost identical to the list I had in elementary school.

TFB Review: Griffin Armament CAM-LOK – One Can, Multiple Caliber Hosts

Griffin Armament came out with a new pistol suppressor piston that they call CAM-LOK. This is a piston for tilt-lock barrels. The CAM-LOK system converts your suppressor into a sort of 3-lug style design. I bought a CAM-LOK piston for my SilencerCo Osprey45 and three CAM-LOK barrel adapters for three different calibers. Why hasn’t anyone done this before? It’s awesome!

Hyperion Suppressors' Release Announced by CGS Group

When you think of the suppressor market, there are some manufacturer names that immediately come to mind. There usually aren’t too many surprises or obscure brands on “ best of” or “ reader’s choice” lists. The New Mexico-based CGS Group, also known as Chaos Gear Supply, has historically not been one of those more famous names. However, with the November 18th release of a new suppressor model in two configurations, we may see the potential for that to change in the future. CGS Group’s new Hyperion and its little brother, the K version, are now available for pre-order through Silencer Shop and other NFA dealers. Though early runs of these suppressors have seen some limited testing, this new announcement signifies the start of full-scale consumer distribution.

Probably the most well known of the quick detach mounting solutions in the silencer world, the three lug system has been incorporated into pistol caliber cans by almost every manufacturer. We’ll take a look at the new YHM 3-lug mount for the R9 as well as the options available from Dead Air and SilencerCo.

Silent ThanksGiveaway – Support The American Suppressor Association

Our friends at the American Suppressor Association are running a ThanksGiveaway membership and donation drive to help support their efforts to promote and defend silencer use in the United States. As the host of TFB’s Silencer Saturday, this is a subject that is obviously close to my heart. In fact, after health, peace and posterity, my Thanksgiving day blessing will include a wish to repeal the NFA and be bestowed the title of Silencer King of North America. Forget I said that last part.
