SILENCER SATURDAY #88: Best Adjustable Gas Blocks For The AR-15
Good afternoon everyone and thanks for coming back for yet another edition of TFB’s Silencer Saturday, where eye-stinging hot gas can be a way of life – much like working at Taco Bell. Which brings us to today’s topic: non-flatulence related gas regulation. We’ve discussed the issues surrounding suppressing a direct impingement (DI) AR-15 style rifle in the past and among the most popular options of regulating these systems are adjustable gas blocks. However, we have yet to break down the best available gas block options along with their individual pros and cons. So let’s take a look.
SILENCER SATURDAY #87: YHM Sidewinder Pistol Suppressors
Good afternoon everyone and thanks for joining us once again for TFB’s Silencer Saturday. I’m Pistol Pete and I’ll be your host for today’s show, which ironically will focus on the line of YHM Sidewinder pistol suppressors. About nine months ago I conceived a Silencer Saturday post asking “ Are pistol cans worth it?”. Of course the answer is yes, because we should strive to live in a quieter world. But due to the ergonomics of pistol hosts, there are some characteristics of pistol suppressors that make shooting quietly even more enjoyable. Today we get a preview of the YHM Sidewinder pistol caliber silencers.
The Best Silencer Host Gun? The Hush Puppy Project Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0
In this episode of TFBTV, James Reeves reviews the Hush Puppy Project S&W M&P 2.0. What is the Hush Puppy Project? From their website:
Now Available: Lage Manufacturing MAX-11/15 .223/5.56 Upper Receivers for M-11/9 SMGs
Lage Manufacturing has been developing the MAX-11/15 upper receiver for several years. Earlier we talked about the progress of this project. Recently, they announced that this 5.56/223 upper receiver designed for M-11/9 submachine guns lower receivers is now available for purchase.
SILENCER SATURDAY #86: Hush Puppy Project Slide Lock And System
Good morning everyone and thank you for joining us for the 86th edition of Silencer Saturday. Last week we laid out some basic tips and advice for new silencer owners, prospective buyers and anyone else who gets their firearm information from mainstream media and Hollywood movies. Today, at the other end of the spectrum, we’ll be getting a preview of a more advanced silencer system that should arrive at TFB HQ in a few weeks. The Hush Puppy Project is a Louisiana-based company that built it’s recently patented technology from Vietnam War era setups used by U.S. Navy SEALs/UDTs.
Keep Your Pants On – Top Deals In Ultimate Rimfire Fun
When it comes to pure fun, rimfire shooting is about as good as it gets without getting naked. Well, I guess if you have a private range you can do both, just make sure to keep your barrel holstered and pointed down range before firing. Moving on, I’ve expressed my love of rimfire (especially suppressed) multiple times in the past. Besides being affordable, there is less recoil to manage, less ear-splitting noise and multiple platforms are chambered in the popular .22LR. Besides, summertime is prime for a bit of rimfire fun.

SILENCER SATURDAY #85: Top 7 Suppressor Basics For Beginners
Good morning everyone and thanks for joining us for another installment of TFB’s Silencer Saturday. Last week we discussed a controversial topic – legally converting solvent trap kits into registered silencers. Your responses, both public and private, ran the gamut, with some of you arguing that solvent traps are a disaster waiting to happen. The other side of the story is that Form 1 silencer builds are an inexpensive, fast and satisfying way to tame your firearms. My arguments surrounding any gun law or regulation will always favor individual liberties. However from some of the comments on our Facebook page and statements made by the media after the attacks last week, I thought we should touch on some suppressor basics for beginners searching for actual facts.

This Pen Gun Redefines the Concept of Concealed Carry
007 eat your heart out because there’s a new king of concealable lethal gadgets on the scene. When it comes to homemade guns, for me, this one takes the cake and eats it too. The marker sized hand cannon dubbed the “Pen Gun” by its owner Josh Geho is just one of many of his other impressive amateur gunsmithing projects.
SILENCER SATURDAY #84: Are Solvent Trap Kits A Good Idea?
Welcome back to another edition of TFB’s Silencer Saturday, where dreams come true (after paying your $200 to the Crown). Last week we used the Dead Air Odessa and Wolfman as examples of two types of modular suppressors. As the story goes, it all comes down to you mission requirements – that’s a fancy way of saying “what the heck are you planning on doing with your silencer, hoss?” Today we will dig into a slightly controversial topic: solvent trap kits. Why are they controversial? We’ll get into that in a second.

SILENCER SATURDAY #83: Odessa Vs Wolfman – Modular Suppressors
Good afternoon everyone and welcome back to TFB’s Silencer Saturday, where hearing safe is not just an OSHA level, it’s a way of life. Last week we started a first round of voting for four categories of the best suppressors: rimfire, pistol, rifle and specialty. In next weekend’s edition, we’ll layout the initial results and start the final voting process. Thank for your nearly 3000 votes and suggestions. Today we are going to compare two modular suppressors from Dead Air – the Odessa 9 and the Wolfman.
Brel & Kjar Impulse Noise Evaluation System
Accurately measuring the noise a firearm or suppressed firearm makes with each report seems like a simple task: download an app on your phone and head out to the range. Not so fast, Alexander Graham Bell. While certain noises produced by stereo speakers, for example, can be measured with simple sound meter devices found on Amazon, gunshots are unique in that the report happens in fractions of a second. In addition, the distance and location from the muzzle (and action), location of the firearm in relation to the terrain and structures, altitude, temperature, barometric pressure and other variables will have an effect on the ability to collect reliable data. Luckily, experts like the engineers at Brüel & Kjær (B&K) have refined their equipment and techniques after decades of research and development and have landed on the Impulse Noise Evaluation System.
SPB And Austria Arms Inspect The B&T VP9 – Bond Style
We all have our “Grail Guns” – firearms that we have lusted and yearned after for years but may not have the means to obtain. Given the opportunity, and resources, we’d jump at the chance to own that one gun that might as well be in a museum and unavailable to the masses. At the top of my list is the B&T VP9 pistol and suppressor kit. But because the VP9 is so rare, shows like SHOT are the only place you can actually handle them. In a new video, Sapiens Para Bellum and Austria Arms walk us through the B&T VP9 kit – Bond Style.

Today we start the difficult task of picking the best suppressors currently on the market. And, as I am not a Dictator, I will rely on your knowledge and experiences fo picking the final list of the best suppressors available today.
SILENCER SATURDAY #81: Yankee Hill Machine Turbo K
Good afternoon everyone and thank you for tuning in to yet another edition of TFB’s Silencer Saturday, where a trip to Home Depot’s plumbing section is not just for leaky faucets anymore. Today we will finish up with the Yankee Hill Machine Turbo K review with a comparative look at perceived ‘at ear’ performance against an iconic silencer. Next Saturday we will continue on with our review of the Dead Air Wolfman 9mm suppressor and start talking about our top ten list of “must have” silencers – I want your input before we publish any recommendations.
Cans Not Bans: Support The American Suppressor Association
Yes, I know, Firearms, Not Politics, but my friends at the American Suppressor Association need your help. Raising awareness, fighting ignorance and protecting the rights of NFA owners across the U.S. takes money. There are approximately 24 hours left in the ASA’s ‘Cans Not Bans’ membership drive and donation campaign and if you enjoy owning silencers, I’m asking you to pull your weight. Several companies have chipped in to offer prizes that will be awarded by random drawing. If you are not an ASA member, consider joining. If you are already a member, consider making a donation.
New Pew Pew: Rex Silentium COV 22 – Covert 22LR Mini Suppressor
Small pistols and small silencers go together like cold beer and salty peanuts. But, at the risk of stating the obvious, reducing the volume of a suppressor also decreases overall noise reduction – unless you have some way to seal off the end cap after the bullet exits the bore. Using rubber wipes is a decades-old design process that has seen a resurgence in silencer development in the last few years. Rex Silentium has just introduced the Covert 22LR mini suppressor for rimfire suppressors. The best part is that it currently retails for $125.
New Manta V2 Suppressor Covers – Same Durability, Lower Profile, Lighter Weight
Manta Defense has launched the new generation of their suppressor covers – the Manta V2. This new product looks a little bit different than the previous Manta Defense suppressor covers and also has been redesigned to make it slimmer and lighter compared to the first generation.
SILENCER SATURDAY #80: Dirty Rimfire; Clean Suppressor
Good afternoon everyone and welcome back to TFB’s Silencer Saturday. Last week we unboxed the Dead Air Wolfman 9mm modular silencer. We’ll have a range review of the Wolfman and the YHM Turbo K here in the next few weeks. There’s a chance I’ll break the two reviews out into standalone posts on the blog. If so, I’ll make sure to drop links into next Saturday’s post. This week we are talking about dirty rimfire and keeping your silencer clean. Dirty, dirty rimfire. I love suppressing you so much, but damn you make my cans filthy. Read that in whatever tone you deem fit.
TFB Review: SIG Rattler CaneBrake – NFA Edition
During the initial review of the SIG Rattler Canebrake, I ended up liking the firearm more than I initially thought I would. As I mentioned at the conclusion of the original review, I liked it enough that I decided to buy it, and then take things a step further.
U.S. Marine with Camouflaged H&K MP7
Norway has a special relationship with the Heckler & Koch MP7 (from Maschinenpistole 7), as they are most likely the country that has bought most of them. If we trust Wikipedia as a source, the numbers are around 6,500 as it replaced (some of) the HK MP5s. Even some soldiers in the Norwegian Home Guard have it.
Colt Canada's Eagle Launcher
Joe Gajcevic of Rampart posted some pictures of something cool in Canada. The Colt Canada Eagle is a 40mm launcher. Why does Colt Canada have cooler stuff than Colt USA? It features an ambidextrous barrel so it can swing both ways. Along with ambi-controls.
