SilencerCo: Introducing The Hybrid 46M Big Bore Modular Suppressor

For shooters who want to suppress calibers larger than .308, there’s a new contender hitting the market. The SilencerCo Hybrid 46M is their latest multi-host release, capable of suppressing everything from .22LR to .45-70 Government and almost everything in between (I’m going to guess that .410 buckshot is off the menu). It’s the high-pressure, large diameter rifle rounds that are going to be the Hybrid 46M’s real bread and butter. There are very few options at this caliber range, and I believe that the Hybrid 46M is currently the only modular option available. Check it out.

SILENCER SATURDAY #197: Quiet Carry – Rugged Mustang22

Hello everyone and welcome back to TFB’s Silencer Saturday brought to you by Yankee Hill Machine, manufacturers of the new YHM Phantom 22 rimfire suppressor. Last week Rusty ran us through the B&T KH9SD integrally suppressed pistol caliber carbine (I’m honestly a bit jealous). This week we are back with a brand new rimfire can – the Rugged Mustang22. As I mentioned in the announcement, the Mustang22 is very quiet, but does it have all the other important characteristics of a quality rimfire silencer? Let’s take a look.

TFB Behind The Gun Podcast Episode #34: Dave Matheny With Silencer Shop

Silencers have become one of the most popular firearm accessories from their relatively obscure origins. Despite their increased popularity, suppressors still tend to be items a lot of people aren’t willing to go through the hassle of getting mostly because of the intimidating paperwork you have to deal with (I’m sure the $200 tax stamp is not helping either). Dave Matheny started Silencer Shop in the hopes of eliminating the hassle that is normally involved with gaining access to a suppressor and today on the TFB Behind The Gun Podcast, Pete talks with Dave about how Silencer Shop Started and also what his go-to weapons setup is in the event of the apocalypse. Be sure to give this one a listen as Silencer Shop has been a strong supporter of our podcast and it has truly been an honor to work with the folks there and support them as much as we can from the blog and the podcast.

New Release: The Rugged Mustang Modular .22LR Suppressor

The new Rugged Mustang .22LR suppressor was released at the perfect time of year. While our esteemed TFBTV star James Reeves loathes the autumn months, I’m the complete opposite. The mosquitoes are  dying off, the foliage is worthy of an epic Bob Ross/Thomas Kincade collaboration, and temperatures are downright pleasant. My favorite fall pastime is long strings of rimfire shooting. Add in a quality silencer and I’m in heaven.

New Release: Energetic Armament ARX 5.56mm Suppressor

To the uninitiated, suppressing the 5.56/.223 AR-15 feels like a no-win scenario. As Ted Lasso might say it’s like drinking 3.2% beer as a teenager: half the fun, with all of the headache. In reality, however, a well-engineered 5.56mm suppressor will knock down most of the blast, hold up to blistering abuse, and have minimal impact on the gas system and the cyclic rate. Not only that, but a really good AR-15 suppressor will be lightweight and offer a variety of mounting options. The new Energetic Armament ARX appears to check all of these boxes.

New Lantac Dragon Muzzle Brake with Dead Air KEYMO Mounting System

Muzzle brakes are quite useful out on the flat range during a competition or just casual shooting for making faster follow-up shots but they don’t often make you any friends on the firing line. Lantac is proud to introduce their latest addition to the Dragon Muzzle Brake lineup with the new Dead Air KEYMO mounting system that is used with the Dead Air Wolfman suppressor. This new mount claims to reduce muzzle recoil to zero and with improved accuracy even with full-auto fire.

The Rimfire Report: The Williams/Lisk 22 Rimfire Belt-Fed Submachine Gun

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report. This ongoing series is all about the rimfire firearm world and its various firearms, ammunition, and technologies. This week we have a very interesting firearm I didn’t even know existed until fellow writer Doug E sent over a few snippets from  The Gun Digest Book of Assault Weapons 5th Edition. In this book, the Williams/Lisk 22 Rimfire is featured and marked as a design that never quite made it into production. The Williams/Lisk 22 Rimfire was basically an American 180 on steroids but in belt-fed form and I don’t know how you can’t have fun with a belt-fed rifle especially when the ammunition is so inexpensive. So today we’ll dive into the Williams/Lisk 22 Rimfire and see what the impetus was for its invention and also why it never quite made it to the production stage of its life and is now all but a forgotten memory of the firearm world.

In this episode of TFBTV, James Reeves – along with Ryan @gunhipster and Brendan of @tomato_tactical – tests three different .22LR silencers on the Ruger-57 pistol. Sure, .22LR cans are great for…rimfire, but how do they do with the FN’s 5.7x28mm round? Check today’s video to find out. SilencerCo Science: Metering Guns From Call of Duty Modern Warfare

In 2007 Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was released, and players experienced the latest and greatest in firearms technology in high resolution. Players of the series found themselves immersed in a game with new guns, and not forced to use those same old re-rendered guns their grandparents used in WWII.  Since its release, the Modern Warfare series has taken the world by storm. Recently I found myself in the SilencerCo Batcave with a sound meter already set up, and a little extra time to spare. So like a kid in a candy store, I asked if we could meter some of my favorite guns from the Modern Warfare franchise, and they kindly agreed.

TFB B-Side Podcast: The Hierarchy of Gun Gear Needs

Welcome to the first episode of the TFB B-Side Podcast. The B-Side podcast is going to be a little less focused and a little more light-hearted than the TFB Behind the Gun Podcast. This week I brought on one of TFBTV’s favorite presenters, Hop.  On today’s show, Hop and I discuss what we call the Hierarchy of Gear Needs and how it applies to responsible citizens going about their daily business. We talk all about the gear and firearms that you run into out in the wild and hopefully provide a perspective to those new to the industry for what order to buy your gear in if you’re interested in becoming prepared incrementally for unforeseen events. Let us know your thoughts and experiences with this subject after you listen and we look forward to hearing from you in the next episode.

BIG BORE BEAST: The Dead Air Primal Is A Caliber-Eating Machine

Suppressing a .45-70 lever action rifle is one of my life goals. Carrying a suppressed “Planet Gun” (my term for a firearm chambered in a caliber that can take down any species on Earth) is simply awesome. And yes, I realize that Blue Whales are probably resistant to even the heaviest .45-70 rounds. But shelling out nearly $1K for a silencer that may only see a few shots a year is not something that my budget can handle. Enter the Dead Air Primal – a multi-caliber suppressor with a host of mounting options for practically every firearm imaginable. So instead of having a suppressor that just sits waiting for your next T-Rex hunt, you’ve got a true caliber-eating machine. Details below.

VIDEO: The NEW Dead Air Primal Suppressor

In this episode of TFBTV, James Reeves has the new Dead Air Primal suppressor in hand. Just released today, August 27, 2021, the Primal is a do-it-all can, and it will work with bullet diameters up to .458, and pressures up to .338 Lapua Magnum. This is a tough can that is full-auto rated, and it’s only one pound in weight and under 8 inches in overall length. It works on the AR-15, AR-10, AK-47, the FN P90, pistols, bolt actions, hunting rifles, even rimfires. This can do it all (almost) AND it’s reasonably priced. But there’s a catch. Watch today’s video and James discusses the pros and cons of this CANacea.

Airgun Modifications: The Crosman 2240 Suppressor Project

One of my first air pistols as a kid was the pump action Crosman American. Simple, cheap to shoot, and accurate enough for 10 year old Pete, that gun provided me with endless hours of neighborhood fun (I’d like to take this opportunity to publicly apologize to Mrs. Yamamoto for plinking the buds off of her well-manicured hibiscus bushes). The C02 cartridge version of the American is the Crosman 2240 – a bolt action pistol that can be had for about $75. Thanks to Larry, one of our readers, we were alerted to a Crosman 2240 suppressor project at www.buck-rail.com. Airgun are a lot of fun. They’re even more fun suppressed.

The Rimfire Report: Ruger LCP II Lite Rack Threaded Barrel Kit Review

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This weekly series is all bout the rimfire firearm world! This week we’ve got a new kit that was added and most likely would have never been approved by Bill Ruger himself – a threaded barrel kit for a rimfire version of one of the most prolific carry guns ever to hit the market. The Ruger LCP II Lite Rack was introduced to everyone’s surprise back in December of 2019 along with the equally surprising Ruger-57 5.7x28mm pistol. Not only were both the pistols quite odd but their first offerings didn’t feature threaded barrels. After much feedback from customers, Ruger has finally released a threaded barrel kit for both the Ruger-57 and the Ruger LCP II Lite Rack. I was able to get a copy of the Lite Rack Threaded Barrel Kit and today we’ll see what it can do for those of you who might be considering suppressing your miniature rimfire pistol.

SilencerCo Announces "Lower Receiver Fever 2021" Promo

SilencerCo has been a staple in the suppressor manufacturing world for nearly a decade and a half. Since 2008, they’ve produced many silencer models that have sold well, but that’s not all they do. They’ve also previously released some products other than cans, including a bolt carrier group and an AR-15 lower receiver. Since its introduction in 2020, the SCO15 billet stripped lower hasn’t been the easiest product to purchase, as it was initially issued as a limited release. They only recently became more widely available, as TFB reported in June. If you want one and are also in the market for any of the Utah-based shop’s cans, now may be the perfect time for you to buy.
