TFB Podcast Roundup 85: Podcats for the Friendly Skies

Welcome to TFB Podcast Roundup 85. This week we’ll be diving back into some normal podcasts now that NRAAM 2023 is well out of the way and everyone is apt to get back to talking about their favorite niche subjects that pop up across the web. Podcasts once again are my go-to source for background entertainment when I travel – mostly air travel these days. This week I’ve lined up a few of my favorite podcasters who have some fresh new discussions for us including Vortex Nation’s #10MinuteTalk, IV8888’s Gun Gripes, and a neat interview between Ron Spomer and Hickock45. As always, sit back, relax, and enjoy this week’s selection of gun podcast content.

The Rimfire Report: Fixing My Dad's Marlin Model 60

Hello and welcome to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is about the rimfire firearm world and its many types of firearms, shooting sports, ammunition, and history! I am back at the helm filling in for Luke C for this week. Last week Luke covered his first impressions of the new Ruger Super Wrangler Revolver. Today we are doing a little story time. This will sort of be a hybrid of Rimfire Report and Armorer’s Bench. Let’s talk about fixing my dad’s Marlin Model 60.

TFB Weekly Web Deals 49: Are Primers Finally Coming Back?

Welcome to TFB Weekly Web Deals 49! COVID hit the firearms industry pretty hard but I think the most frustrating part about all of the shortages for me personally was the quick disappearance of primers and other reloading components. It didn’t take long into 2020 for me to quickly burn through nearly my entire inventory of reloading components and then I was left hunting at various local gun shows for overpriced trays of pistol primers. Long story short, I eventually gave up because it was much easier and far less expensive just to buy bulk ammo when I could find it. Fast forward to today and I’m now starting to notice a handful of primers show up and actually stay in stock. They’re wildly overpriced compared to the prices we paid even just a few short years ago, but at least they’re available again. Today is mostly a reloading-focused roundup so hopefully you guys can find something below that’ll help you fire that rusty reloading press back up.

SILENCER SATURDAY #277: Silencers Ripped From The Headlines

Good afternoon everyone and welcome back to TFB’s Silencer Saturday brought to you by Yankee Hill Machine, manufacturers of the new YHM Turbo T3 5.56 rifle suppressor. Last week we discussed the history of SilencerCo and their current product line. Unfortunately it has been a busy few weeks for me and I did not have time to put together a suppressor review for this week. Instead, let’s comb the internet for news related to suppressors in a new segment I’m branding Silencers Ripped From The Headlines.

Friday Night Lights: Dark ELR – 2,200 Yards At Night

Thank you for joining us here at Friday Night Lights. Last week we took a look at some weapon lights of yesteryear. Well, this time we go back to the dark and try to hit things far, far away. Concealed Carry Corner: Top 3 Tips To Easily Carry

Welcome back to another edition of Concealed Carry Corner. Last week, we talked about perception versus reality when it comes to carrying a concealed firearm. If you happened to miss that article, be sure to check it out by clicking the link here. This week, I want to address a few questions I’ve gotten over the last few weeks since summer is coming. People have asked what are some tips to carry easier during the summer months and what kind of gear should they buy to help them out. While buying things can help somewhat, the bigger issue is people carrying too many items and trying to do too much with too little space. Let’s take a closer look at the top 3 tips to easily carry.

Wheelgun Wednesday: Magnum Research BFR in 360 Buckhammer

The long-cylinder models of Magnum Research’s Biggest Finest Revolver are not only available chambered in the largest handgun cartridges such as the .460 and .500 Smith & Wesson Magnums but also in rifle cartridges. Particularly, the BFR is offered in the following lever gun cartridges: .30-30 Winchester, .444 Marlin, .450 Marlin, and .45-70 Government. Well, apparently a wheelgun shooting a lever gun cartridge is a viable concept as Magnum Research keeps up with the new cartridge developments in the lever action rifle world and has recently announced that the BFR revolver will be available chambered in Remington’s new 360 Buckhammer cartridge. Let’s take a look at the Magnum Research BFR in 360 Buckhammer.

TFB Podcast Roundup 84: Podcats to Clean Your Guns To

Welcome to TFB Podcast Roundup 84. Spring is usually the time when I get around to going through my entire inventory to check on the general condition of my guns and equipment. During this time pretty much every gun gets a good wipe down, but I also move around some of my accessories and optics to other guns for upcoming reviews or shoots. Either way, while I love the sound of roll pins flying across the room, and bolt carriers slamming home, I usually like to have something else to listen to so I can pass the time. This week I’ll be sharing some podcasts I think you can enjoy while you catch up on some routine firearms maintenance.

TFB Weekly Web Deals 48: Guns, Ammo, Gear, and More

Welcome to TFB Weekly Web Deals 48. As my firearms inventory has grown, so too have my purchasing behaviors. When my collection was relatively small and I had very little to work with in terms of cash, I often gravitated towards buying things that could serve multiple purposes within my inventory. This is why things like QD Picatinny mounts, and simple attachment systems like M-LOK or even KeyMod are so popular – you can take your gear off one gun and slap it on another. However, now I find myself wanting to just have my gun set up and not have to mess with it anymore. Now each gun not only comes along with the price tag of the firearm itself, but now I usually factor in the cost of any optics, lights, reloading dies, slings, and other accessories that I might want to use for that gun specifically. This is mostly so I don’t have to keep re-zeroing optics, and re-attaching bipods and suppressors, but I also think there is something quite rewarding about having a truly “finished” build that you never really have to mess with. Anyway, deals like the ones I’ve found today usually help offset some of the pain of purchasing all this stuff and hopefully, you can make some use of it too, no matter how you like to kit out your guns.

SILENCER SATURDAY #276: Spotlight On SilencerCo

This week we turn the spotlight on SilencerCo – one of the main companies that has put suppressors in the hands of thousands of Americans in the past 15 years. Many of which may not have ever considered owning an NFA regulated item until SilencerCo stepped onto the scene. Let’s take a look.

The Curious Case of the Colt All American 2000 – Part 1: History

Looking to add some variety to your gun collection? Well, look no further than the Colt All American 2000 – the gun that’s more American than apple pie and bald eagles combined! Okay, maybe not quite, but this quirky little pistol is definitely worth taking a closer look at. From its unconventional design to its reputation as one of the biggest commercial flops in firearm history, the Colt All American 2000 is an interesting piece from a time when the idea of carrying a polymer-framed handgun was just starting to get a foot in the door. At first glance, the All American 2000 might seem like just another polymer-framed 9mm, but it’s the unique features and story behind the gun’s development and release that really set it apart. For “The Curious Case of the Colt All American 2000 Part 1”, we’ll be taking a look at its history before we dive into a field review after I’ve had some more time to really test the handgun at the range.

Turns Out, Using Your Mags Is Really The Only Thing That Degrades Them

Part of what I love about being a gun nerd is meeting other people who are willing to go to extreme lengths to test out concepts, and theories, or maybe even just to get a solid set of raw data. A couple of weeks ago, Paul from Ammunition To Go, an online ammunition retailer, reached out to me to share some of their extensive magazine testing data with the hopes that their real-world, and lab-tested results could help people determine exactly what keeps mags running for the longest. Below are just a few highlights that stood out to me, but if you’d like to read the entire article by David Lewis, you can check it out here.

Concealed Carry Corner: Perception vs Reality

Welcome back to another edition of Concealed Carry Corner. Last week, we talked about how handgun size can affect your overall carrying experience. If you happened to miss that article, don’t worry, since I’ve left a link to that article here. This week, I want to address some common perceptions I see in the gun community that may not always be true. Whether it’s worrying about printing or not carrying enough stuff, there are plenty of things that people have various perceptions of that may not be true. Let’s take a closer look at what some carry topics that are perception vs reality.

IDEX 2023: The Modern Small Arms of China

While the People’s Republic of China has one of the biggest firearms industries in the world, you rarely see any small arms of China displayed in their booth. Even at the IDEX exhibition, one of the biggest and perhaps the most diverse in the world, you never had a chance to see the newest Chinese rifles. But the world has changed, the demand in the defense industry is growing rapidly and this year, Chinese companies showcased an impressive selection of rifles at the Norinco booth.

TFB Podcast Roundup 83: Everyone is Worried About the Future

Welcome to TFB Podcast Roundup 83. While TFB maintains a pretty staunch “no-politics” mentality, we undoubtedly support the 2nd Amendment, not only is it a core part of our jobs, but I also think it goes without saying that all of us here at TFB and TFBTV don’t want those inalienable rights to go anywhere for any reason at all. This also applies to much of the rest of the Gun Industry as can be demonstrated with a quick web search of popular topics as of late. With recent happenings in the news across the country that are being pumped by both mainstream media and social media sources, I get the vibe that the general mood in the room for gun enthusiasts is that we’re all under attack again and we probably are. However, this is nothing new that we haven’t seen before and the path ahead can often always look bleak while you’re in the thick of it. I think it’s very important to stay informed and active in your areas of interest, but you shouldn’t just fill your mind with the constant 24-hour news cycle, even when it pertains to firearms – it’ll just make you go crazy. So while we’ve included some discussions on this topic for this week’s TFB Podcast Roundup, there are plenty of other no-politics topics here too to keep things balanced out. As always, sit back, relax, and enjoy this week’s selection of gun podcast listening!

TFB Weekly Web Deals 47: Miss Out on NRAAM? Get some Deals Here!

Welcome to TFB Weekly Web Deals 47! Primary Arms has been a huge supporter of both the blog and the TFBTV YouTube channel for quite some time. I’ve been using Primary Arms to buy gun parts, ammunition, and even whole firearms long before then, so I know they’ve always got great deals on not only the sale and clearance items you’ll see today but also regularly scheduled sales that pop up for only 24 hours. Another great online retailer that I often frequent now for bulk ammunition is Palmetto State Armory. PSA’s new AAC Ammunition brand features some pretty nice 9mm handgun ammunition that I’ve been having great success with that doesn’t break the bank. Specifically their 124-grain FMJ 9mm ammunition. I’ve yet to try any of AAC’s other types of ammunition but I have a couple boxes of different flavors on order already and you can be sure I’ll be writing up reviews for all of these ammunition types. In the meantime, enjoy this week’s selection of deals just in case you missed out on all the floor deals at NRAAM 2023.

TFB Armorer's Bench: Commentary on The Marlin Model 60

Welcome everyone to the  TFB Armorer’s Bench! As mentioned in the little blurb below, this series will focus on a lot of home armorer and gunsmith activities. In this article, I had some rimfire stuff on my mind since Luke C reached out and asked if I could fill in on Rimfire Report (I unfortunately have been pretty busy). It made me think of back when I was going to school for gunsmithing and repaired my father’s boyhood 22LR rifle. I’ll save that story for a future Rimfire Report whenever I am called upon again but for now, I wanted to do a commentary article on the Marlin Model 60 series of rifles. All variations of it apply even my dad’s old Coast to Coast Model 40 that he asked his father to buy him in the early 70s. Let’s dive right into this Marlin Model 60 commentary!

M110 Semi-Automatic Sniper Systems in Ukraine

Welcome back to another edition of Concealed Carry Corner. Last week, we talked about some important things to consider when thinking about summer carry. If you happened to miss last week’s article, be sure to click the link here to check it out.  I had a few of you reach out to me on social media talking about overall handgun sizes especially when it comes to handgun width. I thought this was a great addition to last week’s article since carrying can be different for everyone based on their body type. Let’s take a closer look at what’s really important about size when it comes to carrying concealed.

Wheelgun Wednesday: D&L Sports' Revolver Red Dot Mounts

This week on TFB’s Wheelgun Wednesday, we’ll take a look at another D&L Sports upgrade, Revolver Red Dot Mounts. If you’ve been tracking my recent Wheelgun Wednesday content, you would probably think I’m completely geeking out on the revolver red dot concept, but I think it’s just a natural trend that I happen to be reporting on. Semi-auto pistols and rifles have sported red dot sights for some time, and it’s finally becoming more commonplace to see red dot sights atop wheelguns. Let’s take a look at Dave Lauck’s solution for revolver red dot mounts.

The History: The Story of Barrett Firearms with Ronnie Barrett

TFB Podcast Roundup 82: Delta Force EDC and Industry Drama

Hello everyone and welcome to TFB Podcast Roundup 82! As usual, we have a good lineup of great podcasts this week for you to listen to while you clean, drive to work, drive home, reload, or do other menial tasks that are just much more tolerable when there is something else to listen to. This week’s headliner is from the guys over at the Shawn Ryan Show. Shawn Ryan is a former Navy SEAL and CIA Contractor who delivers a wide variety of content including videos and podcasts. His recent podcast with Delta Force Operator Kyle Morgan about his EDC selection caught my eye so I thought I’d share that one first. As for the rest of the podcasts featured this week, you’re in for a special treat if you’ve been following a lot of the firearms industry drama that has been taking place in the courtroom – I was able to bring on an Intellectual Property Lawyer to the TFB Behind The Gun Podcast to give everyone a basic understanding of how and why these types of court cases take place and how they might develop over time. As always, sit back, relax, and enjoy this week’s selection of gun podcast listening.

TFB Weekly Web Deals 46: Hop Right into these Easter Weekend Deals

Welcome to TFB Weekly Web Deals 46! I hope everyone had a nice pleasant Easter weekend and were not only able to get the family out for some nice outdoor activities but were also able to get in some trigger time. One of the coolest fun and most relaxed shooting sports I’ve come across in the last couple of years has been Egg Shoots. An Egg Shoot will vary depending on the local club or match director but the basic premise is simple – Grab a bunch of 22LR rifles and some eggs and start blasting them for points during a timed relay. While the activity still sometimes uses real eggs, with the number of shooters that show up to these events it’s more common these days to see steel or paper targets used instead to reduce both cost and waste. If you want to try out one of these activities but are afraid you won’t be able to find one after Easter, you’re in luck – Egg Shoots are conducted year-round at a lot of different shooting clubs. However, before you head out to play, you might want to stock up on a few supplies for the event. We’ll feature some of those today in TFB Weekly Web Deals 46!
