Christmas Gun Stuff: My Letter to Santa This Year

Dear Santa Claus,
While I freely acknowledge that I thoroughly deserve a stocking full of coal this Christmas, as has been the case every year for more than three decades running, hear me out: guns are awesome. Also, I know where you live – seriously, the North Pole isn’t hard to find – so don’t make me come after you. Therefore, I hereby present a list of firearms-related Christmas presents I’d appreciate you leaving under my tree at zero dark thirty on 25 DEC 2022. When you infil the chimney, just watch out for my claymore Roomba; he’s a spicy little robot and if shrapnel shreds the mistletoe, my wife will be displeased.

The Rimfire Report: The Brief History of Gallery Guns

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is all about the rimfire firearm world and its many guns, shooting sports, ammunition types, and history! Last week we checked out the MaddMacs Precision MK4 Carbine. The MK4 Carbine was a blast to shoot but carried along with it a pretty steep learning curve due to just how light the rifle is. Since the initial review, I’ve opted to swap out my TANDEMKROSS Kraken MKIV lower in lieu of a factory Ruger MKIV lower – this is because I usually shoot two matches at a time and this allows me to participate in both Rimfire Pistol Open (RFPO) and Rimfire Rifle Open (RFRO) without having to bring extra tools to deal with the Kraken. If you haven’t checked out the MK4 Carbine yet, you should head on over to the MaddMacs Precision Tactical to check out the MK4 Carbine, as well as some of its other cool rimfire parts and components. Shooting the MK4 Carbine a lot over the last couple of weeks got me thinking about some of the other types of target shooting we’ve seen become popular in the United States over the years. If you rewind back far enough, you’ll eventually encounter something called a “Gallery Gun.” Gallery Guns are known by many names but put simply the class of firearm mostly consists of rifles and pistols chambered in .22 Short or 6mm Flobert and were initially used for indoor target shooting. Today we’ll check out the unique history of this type of rimfire firearm and observe how it evolved into a fairly familiar recreational shooting sport many of us participated in as children without even realizing it.

Welcome back to another week in the Concealed Carry Corner. Last week, we talked about my top five carry guns if I could only have five for the rest of my life. If you missed out on last week’s article, be sure to check it out here. This week, I decided to talk about my experiences over the last few months with trying out more ways to carry off-body. I decided to give it another chance and over the last few years, I’ve actually come to realize that off-body carry does have a few great benefits depending on the situation. Let’s talk about how I started to take a new look at off-body carry,

Annoying Little Truths About Gun Ownership

Owning, shooting, and collecting guns is awesome, but as with any hobby, there are pros and cons to everything, and I thought I’d take a moment to discuss several of those annoying little truths about owning guns. These negative aspects of gun ownership are mostly First World problems, and they’re not always deal breakers when you’re itching to get to the range, but like the title says, annoying little truths.

The Rimfire Report: Steel Challenge with the MK4 Carbine

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! A couple of months back we took a look at the Maddmacs Precision Tactical MK4 Carbine series of rifles designed by Competition Shooter Wade Reed. The MK4 Carbine makes use of largely the same design as the Ruger MK4 pistol by virtue of it using virtually all of the same parts, just slightly altered to make the firearm a rifle rather than a pistol. The designer of the MK4 Carbine, Mr. Wade Reed recently reached out to me asking if I would be interested in taking a closer look at one of these and trying one out for myself. I happily accepted the offer to try one out and have since then had a fair amount of range time with it including two full Steel Challenge competitions that gave me a good bit of insight into the pros and cons of this lightweight platform.

TFB Weekly Web Deals 34: Thanksgiving Leftovers

Welcome to TFB Weekly Web Deals 34! Just last week we were able to gain access to some long-awaited savings with plenty of Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals to be had at. Personally, I took the opportunity to get free shipping on some ammunition, picked up a handful of gifts for friends to get ahead of the Christmas rush, as well as picked up barrels for some upcoming projects. Friday Night Lights: East Coast Night Shoot (In Ohio)

Welcome back Night Vision enthusiasts. Last week we took a break for the holiday. Before that I wrote about ATAK drones and laser range finders. Well, the week before that was Veterans Day and I travelled to Ohio to visit some friends of mine who were hosting their third East Coast Night Shoot. Yes, the shoot was in Ohio. It was one of the largest gatherings of night aficionados I have seen.

Concealed Carry Corner: If I Was Stuck With Only Five Carry Options

Throughout the Holiday weekend, I had a number of great conversations with friends who also enjoy shooting. One of the longest conversations we had one night over our preferred alcohol, was about what handguns we would keep if we could only own five for the rest of our life. Although highly unlikely to happen, it’s always fun to go through and pick what five handguns you would keep to carry for the rest of your life. Let’s talk about my choices out of my collections for the guns if I was stuck with only five carry options.

Ukraine's UAR-15 at the Range – Guest Article From ReaperFeed

I recently had the chance to try out one of the newest small arms made in Ukraine – the UAR-15 rifle which was developed for the Ukrainian military. TLDR: These are really well-built AR-style rifles, and it’s a shame they are not likely to go on the civilian market anytime soon since all the production is now military-oriented.

Wheelgun Wednesday: The Pros And Cons Of Speedloaders

We’ve already covered moon clips and speed strips, but this time we’ll take a look at the pros and cons of speedloaders, which are perhaps the most well-known revolver loading device. Let’s dig in.

Rundown: Canadian Small Arms & Light Weapons Transferred to Ukraine

After seeing a considerable number of Colt Canada C7 rifles and C8 carbines being used in Ukraine, I decided to investigate their origins reaching out to various Ministries of Defense to enquire if they had provided the rifles. The Canadian Ministry of National Defence not only confirmed that they had provided various small arms but their spokesperson was also kind enough to confirm some of the types of small arms and light weapons which Canada has transferred to Ukraine since February.

Gun Shops and Gun Laws of the Philippines

When people ask me about my hobbies, I am often hesitant to say “guns”, so my usual answer is “travel”. Frankly, it is both. And the more I travel, the more I understand that there are very few places in the world, outside of the US, that have an actual gun culture. More often than not, guns are a privilege available only to the rich and well-connected, and in very few places gun ownership is mainstream. But the Philippines are a good exception to that rule.

The Rimfire Report: Fun with the New Threaded LifeCard

Hello everyone and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is all about the rimfire firearm world and its many different types of guns, ammunition, and shooting sports. Last week we took a closer look at the inside of the SIG Sauer P322 which I personally believe is one of the better 22LR semi-auto pistols to come out in recent memory. Today we’re taking a look at the newest factory iteration of Trailblazer Firearms’ LifeCard – this time featuring a factory-threaded barrel. A few weeks ago at Triggrcon 2022, James Reeves and I had a chance to shoot this new threaded LifeCard and while it was impressive enough on the range, it was kind of hard to hear just how effectively this particular handgun was as a suppressor host. Today we’ll be taking a look at the new life card to see what has changed about it compared to the standard Life Card, and also see what kind of rimfire mischief we can get into with this neat little firearm.

Any gunsmith or armorer can be greatly helped by literature. Yes, I realize books are a boring topic but it is one of the most useful things in my toolkit. This job is one where you can learn something new every day and the answers to questions you may have are not always on the internet. Let’s dive right into what exactly is in my personal gunsmithing library!
