The More You Know: Living With Astigmatism When Using Red Dot, Holographic and Prismatic Optics

About 15 years ago I sadly boxed up a brand new Red Dot Optic for it’s return to the manufacturer without ever having used it to fire a shot – the reticle was a blurry burst rather than a crisp clear dot. But before I called and asked for a return authorization, I decided to search the Internet looking for answers on the durability of my new glass. And that’s when I found it: my new optic wasn’t the problem, I was.

Country Rifle: Sweden by Rainier Arms (Bravo Company)

Let’s start with some Mythology: The 12th-century King Eric IX saw a golden cross in the blue sky as he landed in Finland during the First Swedish Crusade in 1157. Seeing this as a sign from God he adopted the golden cross against a blue background as his banner. The golden cross was later changed to a yellow one, probably slightly more practical (and cheaper). A great story, except no one really knows if there ever was a crusade at that time or not. But Blue and Yellow have been used as Swedish colors at least since King Magnus III’s Royal coat of arms of 1275.

POTD: Jumping The Glock (Shark)

Looks like this was probably done as a joke. I see a rather tricked out Glock that appears to be done by Agency Arms. It has an RMR mounted to the slide and is holstered in a Crye Precision holster. The Glock has a threaded barrel with the Tuff Products railed muzzle brake. Nathan S. wrote an article about it.  Then they added an Aimpoint micro and angled foregrip.

Review: Suarez International L-Mount Trijicon RMR Red Dot Base

Gabe Suarez is a polarizing figure. Our readers will certainly have some institutional memory of him interacting in the comments, but polarizing figures do have a tendency to spark real conversation about tough issues and in this case, Gabe Suarez is certainly able to do that. He has been a long proponent of adding red-dot sights to handguns, a trend that is starting to gain solid traction in the tactical shooting community.

Suarez International L-Mount RMR Base

The other day we posted about the new Suarez International slide for the Leupold Deltapoint Pro, well Suarez International has yet another red dot product for the Glock. They recently debuted their new L-Mount red dot base that allows you to mount a Trijicon RMR red dot onto your Glock slide. They’re a bit different than many of the other red dot base plates on the market in that they don’t permanently modify your Glock at all, you can completely reverse it and go back to your factory configuration. There’s no slide milling required, it mounts to your Glock’s rear dovetail as well as the rear slide plate. The drawback to this is that it does sit a bit higher than if you mounted the RMR directly to the slide.

Dueck Defense Red Dot Back Up Sight Base

Dueck Defense, makers of the RTS angle back up irons, has made their version of a red dot adapter plate for Glocks. Their RBU (Red Dot Back Up) sight base drifts in place of the rear sight on the Glock slide. The sight base is machined to accommodate the more common mini red dots like RMR, Leupold Deltapoint, Burris and JPoint.

In (Small) Defense of EOTech – Thermal Drift in Trijicon MRO

L-3 Communication’s EOTech division is currently going through the PR ringer for the thermal drift found in their (previously) phenomenally popular Holographic Weapon Systems. After USSOCOM released a Safety of Use Message to all its commands ( which was leaked publicly) the backlash has been extreme. EOTech has informally recalled all their optics (for full refunds) and

[SHOT 2016] Trijicon's MRO

Sure, the MRO isn’t breaking news or anything but I got a chance to play with one a bit for the first time. Trijicon had the MRO out in force at SHOT 2016 giving me a great opportunity to play with one a bit so I can share my first impression with you guys. Trijicon describes the MRO as their mid-sized optic somewhere between the SRS and the RMR. Trijicon made sure to make all MROs night vision compatible unlike some companies that charge extra for that feature. They also designed the tube to flare towards the front in order to remove the tube effect that you get on other mid-sized optics. With the brief time I had to play with the optic I found that the view was much closer to my beloved but returned EoTech than the Aimpoint T1 red dots I have tried.

Afghan Special Forces Shoot Cans Out Of Hand

Found this gem on Facebook. The solider is using an M4 variant with what looks like a Trijicon Acog, PEQ, and possibly a SureFire weapon light. It goes without saying that this is dangerous and should not be attempted. However I do commend the skill set of the soldier that made these shots. It is rather close range but I would not want to be the guy holding the soda cans. Please do not try this at home.

Primary Arms ACSS Broken Down Barney Style by MrGunsNGear

Primary Arms hit the jackpot when they created the ACSS. With their less expensive optics, it has proven to be a rock-star in the optics world and is so good that Trijicon themselves have picked up the reticle for inclusion in ACOGs – a move that I believe speaks volumes about the technical innovation of the scope and more importantly the character of those running the company.

Exclusive: Trijicon MRO (Miniture Rifle Optical) REAL Retail Pricing Leak

The Trijicon MRO leaked datasheets have been making waves across the internet. The optic is very small, not much larger in width and height than the generous 25mm objective lens. It has a snag free design with nothing protruding from it other than the brightness adjustment dial. This combined with 5 years of battery life off a single CR2023 makes for a compelling backup sight.
