Shoot your Shotgun Bore Clean!… No, For Real, Huntego Shells Do Just That

There is a new cleaning company on the scene flipping conventional wisdom on its head. The idea of “shooting” your gun clean might sound idealistic and fictitious, but it is something that now exists as a result of Huntego. They make a shotgun shell that can clean your gun if you shoot it. A more complete and better explanation of the product is stated on the Huntego website:

Remington 870 Tac-14 (Non-SBS) Introduced

Just in time for NRA 2017, Remington has just introduced their 870 Tac-14 shotgun which falls into a category not covered by NFA short-barreled shotgun regulations although it is a 14-inch barrel. The shotgun utilizes a Shockwave Raptor pistol grip that is neither a stock nor a true pistol grip but is really just somewhere inbetween. Not mentioned is the tubular magazine capacity, but we believe it to be around 3-4 shells in addition to one chambered. Overall length is 26.2 inches and the MSRP is 443.05 dollars.

KRAL ARMS AK Shotguns, AR Shotguns, Bullpups

As I finish up the review of my Comrade Arms TAK47 12 gauge AK-based shotgun, I find myself wanting something I had never considered before – a magazine-fed scattergun. Much thanks to H.H. for the tip on Turkish arms manufacturer Kral Arms, who produce several versions of AK, AR bullpup (sometimes in combination with each other) shotguns with unique aesthetics.

Mossberg M500A2 Military Enhancement Kit for Marine Breachers

Marine Corps Systems Command announced the fielding of a Military Enhancement Kit (MEK) to various units that require breaching as an essential capability. This includes everything from Military Police, to Force Reconnaissance Marines that need to breach houses. The kit is an addition to current Mossberg M500A2 slide action shotguns that are currently in use mainly by MP, Recon, and special response units across the Marine Corps. Although the M1014 is supposed to replace the Mossberg or at least compliment it, the reality is that there aren’t enough M1014s to go around so units have to contend with the Mossberg. The irony of this kit is that the M1014 was designed to have a telescoping stock for this exact purpose, but the cost of the shotgun has been so prohibitive that units still aren’t receiving it.

Britain's Growing Practical Shooting Sport

Our first episode with Callum from English Shooting covered the intricacies of the laws and regulations that govern firearm and shotgun ownership in the United Kingdom. But in this episode, we discuss the growing sport of Practical Shooting. Essentially based on Three Gun, or Two Gun in the United States, the sport is appealing to British shooters for a number of reasons, one of which is that it offers a diverse and changing environment for shooters to compete in, unlike anything that has been available before.

The Liberator's Forgotten Caliber Upgrade – Winchester's Liberator Shotguns

Despite 1,000’s being made and attempting effective employment, Liberator handguns from the Second World War tend to be looked down upon. The diminutive .45 gun was simply difficult to use and near impossible to employ accurately (as demonstrated by Forgotten Weapons), requiring point-blank employment. However, the concept of the “liberator” firearm as an inexpensive effective firearm to arm resistance fighters was and still is a valid concept.

Inforce releases Gen2 WML lights

Inforce, a manufacturer of high quality picatinny mounted weapon lights has upgraded their WML line with their new Gen2 WML series of lights. The Gen2 has a redesigned body, along with the switch that operates the lights momentary on or constant on feature. Bear in mind these changes are to be implemented with four different systems the company has, the WML White, WMLx White, WML White/IR, WMLx White/IR. The “x” connotation is longer and takes up two 123A Lithium batteries than the non “x” version. Not included in this article but I’ve heard rumors of a variant of the WML with Keymod attachments instead of picatinny…

Book Review: Guns of the Special Forces 2001-2015

Guns of the Special Forces is a recent publication by Pen & Sword Press written by Leigh Neville, an Australian defense and military author. The book is inspired by Guns of the Elite written by George Markham, an in-depth look at the history and then current (1990s) usage of small arms by special operations units in the world. Neville is essentially bringing the SF narrative of small arms knowledge and development up to date, in an extremely well written, 244 page publication filled with excellent description, discussion, and amazing photographs. In fact, I think the photographs are some of the best to appear in print from this secretive community the world over. I’m very used to being awed and seeing a number of photographs from OIF/OEF of SF weapons, but even for me the book blew it out of the park with the selection of pictures.

Shotgun Recoil Tip from Mossberg

Former USMC and current LEO Jeremy Stafford recently completed a video blog for Mossberg that caught my attention. The video blog’s purpose is to illustrate how to use recoil to your advantage, specifically with pump shotguns. For the video Stafford used a Mossberg 500 Pump Action Tactical Shotgun. In order to make the concept clear he exaggerated his movements; the goal is to practice this method until your movements are fluid and uninterrupted.

Review: "Prepper Guns" Asks if You're Ready for Potential Disaster

Yes, I am a gun writer – or an outdoor writer, to use the proper term. If you assume this means I read quite a bit, you’d be right, but not every gun writer out there is also a reader. For me, reading is paramount. The only thing capable of fighting my desire to get out and shoot is a good book. So I was pleased to find fellow outdoor writer Bryce M. Towsley’s newest book “Prepper Guns” is both well-thought out and detailed.
