Oh, look, it’s your grandpa’s rusty old shotgun. Ho hum. Not very tactical, is it? Its kinda heavy too. It wasn’t especially pretty to look at when it was new, and there’s not much original bluing left now. Who cares about an old Remington Model 11?

Hunter’s Specialties is now selling zombie turkey targets.  Designed to “…add a bit of fun…” when checking the pattern of your shotgun, the Dead Strut targets feature a zombie turkey that is “life-sized” at 30 yards.

Revealed at last year’s SHOT show, the Kel Tec KSG (Kel-Tec Shotgun) has been one of the most sought after new guns in recent days, selling on gunbroker for sometimes 50% over MSRP. This, I’m sure pleases the dealers trying to keep them on the shelves. Recently, I was sent one to look over and evaluate, along side Phil, who also received one, and reviewed it previously.

“I bought a pump shotgun because they never jam.” This proud statement is a staple of gun store conversation. Normally it comes either just before or just after the “you can’t miss” and “sound of the pump scares ’em off” statements, and like the others, it is also patently untrue. Pump shotguns jam and break and fail in all sorts of interesting ways that keep gunsmiths quite busy.

I own a number of different hand-held clay throwers. I personally prefer the portability of hand throwers over the consistency offered by traditional ground staked or tire mounted throwers. The problem with the hand throwers I own is that I struggle to teach new shooters how to use them. They manage to break about a third of the clays and throw another third of them into the dirt. Maybe a bad workman teacher blames his tools, but I am always on the lookout for better solutions. The Wing One is a new thrower that looks very promising. It is demonstrated in this video …

I have a healthy fear the mighty 12 Guage. These high speed videos have done nothing to ease my fears.

Earlier this month The Firearm Blog announced the release of Laserlyte’s new CM-15 shotgun/ rifle laser. This laser system is a variation of the previous “Kryptonyte” line of long gun lasers.

What do these guns all have in common?

A sawed off shotgun is near the top of my gun acquisition list. I love the combination of dark ebony-stained wood and the duracoat grey/green finish.

Chiappa just published a video of their upcoming Triple Threat, a tripled barrelled shotgun which will go on sale next year. The rate of fire is impressive.

The CL-43 is a new flashlight from gun maker Kel-Tec. It is CNC machined from extruded aluminum and has a Cree XP-G LED lamp capable of putting out 420 lumens of light.

Nicholas Chen had an opportunity to try shooting the UTAS UTS-15 shotgun, a competitor to the Kel-Tec KSG. The gun has a strange magazine design where the follower extends past the feeding port. The video is a little disjointed, but you will get the idea …

In competition, shotgun reloading can make or break a stage. I have tried a 4 shell caddy where you use your thumb to load, and it’s an awkward motion for me that I know would require a lot of practice. I luckily ran into another alternative which I think shows a lot of promise.
