JP Enterprises JP-5 Roller-Delayed Blowback 9mm Carbines Now Available

At the beginning of the current year, JP Enterprises teased a new 9mm pistol caliber carbine called JP-5. This is an AR-style carbine but unlike the majority of similar PCCs on the market that are direct blowback guns, the JP-5 is a roller-delayed blowback operated firearm … like the H&K MP5. This carbine is designed to combine the advantages of the roller-delayed blowback mechanism such as the low recoil impulse due to the lighter weight of reciprocating parts with the ergonomics of the AR-15. In the June 2021 edition of their BULLETin monthly newsletter, the company announced that after two years of development, the JP-5 is now available for preorder.

TFB Review: The New Taurus GX4 Sub-Compact 9mm Pistol

Taurus has just released what may very well be the most economical sub-compact 9mm pistol on the market so far. The Taurus GX4 is the company’s answer to similar pistols like the SIG P365, Springfield Hellcat, and Ruger MAX-9. I was sent a Taurus GX4 pistol a little over a month in advance of its official unveiling online and I got to put the pistol through its paces, carry it and really see how much value Taurus has put into this brand new pistol. So today I’ll be sharing my thoughts on the new carry piece and hopefully give you a good idea if this would be a viable option to add to your concealed carry rotation.

Barnaul Ammunition Releases New Subsonic 9mm Ammo

If you shoot suppressed, you like the quieter experience that a silencer provides. Hearing-safe shooting is the main benefit to a can, right? One issue that may arise is that most common ammo isn’t designed to perform at subsonic levels. This means that even though your suppressor will help in containing the rapidly expanding gases propelling your bullet – and thus the flash and sound this creates – if and when that projectile breaks the sound barrier in flight, it will make a popping noise that is actually a tiny sonic boom. The quietest suppressed shooting typically requires the use of subsonic ammo. 300 Blackout was designed primarily intending to do just this, although supersonic .300BLK options like Barnaul‘s 145-grain loads do exist.

NovX Ammo's New Pentagon Personal Defense Rounds

Back in 2017, a new ammo brand called NovX came onto the scene. Their intended differentiators were supposed to be twofold: the use of Shell Shock NAS3 stainless steel/aluminum casings instead of standard brass, and the use of copper/polymer projectiles. NovX claimed that their designs, specs, and choice of these non-traditional materials had allowed them to create rounds that they characterized as having/being “…ballistically superior; reduced recoil, match-grade accuracy, devastating wound channels.” However, things went largely quiet after that initial release, and although some ammo appears to have been produced and sold since those early days, today NovX is not particularly widely used or known. The company may be looking to change that now, as they’ve recently ramped up media activity, and issued the following press release (their apparent first since December of 2017) regarding a new ammo offering.

US Army's M1153 Special Purpose 9mm Hollow Point Ammo Tested

M1152 Ball and M1153 Special Purpose 9x19mm cartridges have been adopted by the US military along with the MHS handguns (M17 and M18). The M1152 is loaded with a 115-grain full metal jacket (FMJ) bullet and the M1153 Special Purpose cartridge utilizes a 147-grain jacketed hollow point (JHP) projectile. The intended use for the M1153 ammo is the situations where overpenetration is a concern, to minimize the collateral damage. Contrary to popular belief, not all hollow point cartridges are banned for military use – the US military has this option for their handguns and apparently, it does not violate any conventions.

Ruger MAX-9: It's the Cheapest, But is it Good?

It has night sights out of the box, it’s optics ready, and it’s inexpensive, but is it a bargain or a bust? Check today’s video and find out.
