[SHOT 2021] Streamlight TLR-7 sub – A New Light for Subcompacts

Until recently, not many subcompact carry guns came equipped with rails. Because of this, some people either carried a larger handgun, or opted to have no light. However, with the introduction of pistols like the SIG P365, Springfield Armory Hellcat, and Glock 43X and 48 MOS models, that has changed. A need for subcompact lights has emerged and Streamlight has answered. Introducing the TLR-7 sub.

[SHOT 2021] XS Sights New Minimalist Night Sights

I always want to see the cool new tech that comes out of SHOT Show, and I think that’s the case for most of us. One thing that’s often overlooked is the basics. Iron sights have been around since the beginning of firearms history, and I don’t think that’s going to change. XS Sights is continuing to put out new models of pistol sights for those of us who still don’t run a dot on our handgun. The latest to be released is the XS Minimalist Night Sights.

TNVC's vSHOTT: Virtual Stand-In for Cancelled SHOT Show

By now most SHOT Show attendees and other interested parties are aware that SHOT 2021 has sadly been cancelled. We’ll now have to wait an extra year for the firearms industry’s next top convention and trade show, but some upcoming alternatives have begun to surface, in an attempt to help fill the void in the interim and provide companies with a way to showcase new product offerings. Many of these are online events, like TFB and TFB TV’s own Gun Fest, which has already garnered a great response and is sure to be a great way to tide us over.

Otis Technology to Supply SHOT Show 2021 with Hand Sanitizer

In January of this year, SHOT Show 2020 went on just as so many had before. Throngs of industry professionals milled about, discussing the next big things for firearms, ammo, optics, shooting accessories, and more. As the months of Coronavirus precautions have continued to extend well beyond the initial expected timeframe, it has lead some people to wonder about SHOT Show 2021. Would it require reduced capacity? Would it involve adjustments to the venue to spread people out more? Would it even happen at all, or might it be cancelled outright like the 2020 NRA Annual Meeting in Nashville was, just a few short months after SHOT Show 2020? Fortunately – at least for now – it appears that we are still green-lit for Vegas in January 2021. SHOT Show’s organizing body, the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) is taking measures to assuage people’s Covid fears but still carry on with the industry’s largest (and arguably most important) convention this coming January. To this end, they have announced that the gun cleaning and maintenance mavens at Otis Technologies have agreed to supply SHOT 2021 attendees with a veritable ocean of hand sanitizer. The NSSF’s press release detailing this new specialty sponsorship reads as follows.

For us, as the sun was setting on Industry Day at the Range, the TFB “Do it In the Dark” machine gun shoot was just about to begin.

[SHOT 2020] A Big Year for Ultimatum Precision – Deuce and DeFacto Actions

I think I can say this without offering offense, this year was the best SHOT Show yet for Ultimatum.  Two years ago when they were exhibiting in the “N” booths on the 3rd floor they faced some challenges.  They were introducing their new action, the “Deadline”, named as such for a good reason, on the heals of the less than successful U300.  Unfortunately, that year circumstances beyond their control (U.S Customs) kept them from bringing in any sample actions from Canada, so all they had was a large rotating model of the new design.  Last year was relatively uneventful, but this year……this year they knocked it out of the park.

[SHOT 2020] Horus Vision – A Complete Solution

Most long-range shooters know Horus for their reticles like the H-59, Tremor2, and Tremor3.  They were the pioneers in what we now refer to as Christmas tree style reticles. They focused on the ability to have a refined hold point for hold-overs and provide for faster follow-up shots.  What many shooters may not know is Horus was also one of the early providers of ballistic software. At that time there weren’t apps for in the iTunes store for long-range shooting, in fact, the solver came on an SD card and needed to be run on a PDA or a Trimble device.  Things evolved and ATrag was integrated into the Kestrel 4500. Finally, ATrag was eclipsed by Applied Ballistics and we haven’t seen much of it since. Well, Horus Vision (under new ownership since 2016) is back with a suite of equipment to help the long-range shooter.

Developed in the 1980s by Jim Sullivan, the Ultimax is perhaps most famous for its extremely controllable rate of fire (sometimes balancing the buttstock on a shooter’s nose or chin). Despite decades since its inception, the light machine gun still hasn’t seen widespread adoption throughout militaries throughout the world. The Mark VIII attempts to change that by showing the U.S. market what ST Engineering (ST Kinetics, formerly Chartered Industries of Singapore, CIS) still has to offer.

The Lightest .308 AR Ever? The 5-6 lb POF Rogue Ultralight Rifle [SHOT Show 2020]

James Reeves checks out the POF booth at SHOT to see one of the lightest .308 ARs ever made. Per Hrachya H. of TFB, POF has made an “ingenious .308 receiver design that manages to fit a .308 magazine into AR-15 lower receiver dimensions. This year, they added another rifle and a pistol to the family of weapons built on this receiver concept. One of the goals of designing the new Rogue series of firearms was to create the lightest 308 guns without sacrificing the rigidity of the weapon. With an overall weight of 5.9 lbs for the Rogue rifle (16.5″ barrel) and 5.6 lbs of the Rogue pistol (12.5″ barrel), these are really handy guns. When you shoulder them, it’s hard to believe that you are holding a 308 AR.”
