A Danish company called Quickloader makes shotgun ammunition storage system for hunters which provides quick access to pairs of shells thus decreasing the reload time of  double-barreled shotguns. The product itself is called … Quickloader.

Have you ever stood on the bow of a boat floating next to an injured, thrashing whale, harpoon in hand, waiting for the right timing to throw while trying not to die? Well… neither have I. However, by the 1840’s, enough people had, and had had enough. I recently took my family to the Vesterheim National Norwegian-American Museum ( http://vesterheim.org/) in Decorah, Iowa and I noticed a strange, but cool looking gun in their firearm display case. There was scant information about it, but what they did say was enough to make me do some additional research. The information sheet said that it was pretty a “Harpoon gun. One-inch-wide bore. May also have been used as a shotgun”. It was clearly a muzzleloader, ignited by a percussion cap.

Chaos Inc. has introduced a new series of extended handguards for the following four shotgun models: Saiga-12, Cheetah-12, KS-12 and DDI-12. The new series of handguards is called Apollo 12. They are available either with KeyMod or M-LOK accessory mounting platforms on 3, 6 and 9 o’clock positions.

The National Rifle Association (NRA) magazine American Hunter has awarded Champion’s Workhorse Trap the Golden Bullseye Award for 2018 Gear of the Year. Champion representatives will accept the prestigious honor Friday, May 4, during the 2018 NRA Annual Meetings and Exhibits in Dallas, Texas.

NRA Museums regularly publish on their social media pages a series of firearm images under a title “GUN OF THE DAY”. Recently, they shared images of a weird looking experimental shotgun with a complicated mechanism designed to counter the recoil. By doing a brief research, I found the patent of this gun which will allow us to examine and understand its mechanism better.

21,917 student athletes representing 804 high school teams are taking part in high school clay target leagues affiliated with the USA High School Clay Target League (USAHSCTL) this spring. The League is the largest high school clay target shooting sport program in the nation, with almost 26,000 students
participating in League programs during the 2017-18 school year.

Any firearms content that can be promoted showcasing shooting sports in the Olympics is a positive for the industry in general.  Federal is using some of it’s resources to bring attention by sponsoring USA Shooting for supplying US athletes.  Other ammunition companies have done other awareness campaigns like Winchester (who, interestingly, had been a previous sponsor of the topic of this press release).

The Hatsan Escort Dynamax shotgun has a lot of cool features like a special buttpad and cheek rest designed to absorb as much of recoil energy as possible, a number of different coatings and surface treatments on different parts of the gun applied for increasing the durability and so on. However, the most interesting system incorporated into the design of these shotguns is what Hatsan calls Hybrid Cycling System.

When you think of firearm suppressors and subsonic ammunition, I’m guessing that a 12 Gauge scattergun is the furthest thing from your mind. Reducing the report of a shotgun to acceptable levels is fraught with challenges. A gigantic bore diameter, wadding and shot cups, suppressor availability, barrel length considerations and  limited ammo availability all weigh on the practicality of muffling the report of a shotgun. Luckily, companies like Detroit Ammunition have been coming up with options for shooters who want to take their 12ga blasters in a different direction.

Rubber Buckshot and Rubber Slugs are far from easily available where I live, and it kind of makes sense as the market must be very limited.

Strike Industries recently released their new Hayl Rail MLOK Handguards for the popular Benelli M4 semi-auto shotgun. Originally debuted earlier this year at the 2018 SHOT Show, the new Hayl Rail is made out of 6061 Aluminum and weights in at 6.6 oz. As the name suggests the Hayl Rail features MLOK slots along the side and bottom of the handguard for mounting tactical lights, foregrips, and other accessories.

A confidential source at Dam Neck Naval Base has recently shared photographs of the newest addition to the armory of the infamous direct action element within SEAL Team Six. Due to urgent operational requirements to work covertly in extremely hostile environments, DEVGRU (known for the OBL raid) recently had a rush purchase of what would appear to the naked eye as a craft produced shotgun. Apparently, this is exactly what the secretive force had in mind in order to clandestinely approach a target location and be able to have a breaching solution that wouldn’t alert civilians in the vicinity to the true nature of the mission. From what we know, it appears that any sighting of the force in the open would be more akin to a local gang collecting hashish revenue than an actual JSOC component in the wild.

Although there is much to be said about Afghan National Army, Afghan National Police, counterfeits, and the illicit small arms trade in Afghanistan, in this video we are specifically looking at the legal shotgun sellers in Kabul. These shotguns are legal to purchase and own, essentially being unregulated. This is similar to other regions that have large shotgun sales such as Pakistan and Turkey but have very heavily regulated handgun and rifle sales.

When you hear the words “luxury hunting firearms”, you probably first think about British gunmakers. Needless to say that Holland & Holland is one of the most known of these companies. Federal Premium has been very busy as of late re-working many of their turkey loads for hunters to be more lethal than ever. This has come through the implementation of their FliteControl Flex Wad and the use of Heavyweight TSS payloads. Now they have a line of shotgun shells dedicated to that unique shot type with the aptly named “Heavyweight TSS.”

I was hoping that I would get to see some Chinese made guns at IWA.  We do not get to see Chinese made guns in the US apart from some shotguns that are imported like the Catamount Fury and the saiga style shotguns imported recently by SDS Imports. China South Industries Corp did not disappoint. They had a small selection of Norinco handguns among some airsoft and shotguns also made in China.

Given the success and depth of USA Shooting’s shotgun program in recent years, it stands to reason that simply making America’s team might be the hardest thing to do. That will be the case this week as the nation’s top shotgun competitors converge on the Tucson Trap and Skeet Club for the Spring Selection Match, March 21-25, to determine team spots for the 2018 World Championships and Championship of the Americas. The intensity is magnified given that these two major 2018 events begins the Olympic
quota process for USA Shooting, where athletes will try and obtain the maximum number of Olympic participation spots available.

Among a large number of airguns and airsoft, the third largest group of products at IWA are shotguns. Sure there are the boutique high-end shotguns but just as many if not more prevalent are tactical style shotguns made in Turkey. Remember the Akdal MKA1919? It is an M16 style semi-automatic 12 ga shotgun. Husan is expanding on the MKA line of shotguns and is making a Tavor styled shotgun.

Many of us at TFB do not just merely write about firearms. We work at retail gun stores, museums, are attorneys, gunsmiths, historical researchers and perform R&D work for firearm manufacturers. We take pride in fully immersing ourselves into the #pewpewlife as Colion Noir would say. We will not state we are premier experts in any given category, but we also believe we are very well versed in all facets of firearms. Beretta has introduced an advanced competition version of their D11 Black over and under shotgun. The new shotgun is called DT11 Black PRO. The main difference from the base model is the adjustable stock. Let’s go through the features of this shotgun.

Often completely overshadowed by the larger SHOT Show, the Antique Gun Show is strategically held during the weekend after SHOT Show (although this year it was held the weekend before). Although possibly not the best antique show in the United States, it certainly ranks highly up there with the quality of firearms brought into it. The majority of everything sold within this show is from the 1800s and early 1900s, with even a few older firearms as well. And unlike SHOT Show which is strictly regulated to media and industry folks, the Antique Arms Show is open to the general public for a small admission fee at the door. Apparently, for the first time since attending SHOT, TFB was able to pay a visit and bring to light a number of the more interesting pieces on display. Although not comprehensive of everything that was on display, this post will highlight some of the odder and more fascinating tables and vendors.

At SHOT Show 2018, Mossberg made the headlines with their 590M double stack mag fed shotgun. I missed their new line up but got to see them at the Great American Outdoor Show. Mossberg has one of the largest booths at GAOS. They brought out their entire lineup and the 590M was clearly the star of the show. In the wings I noticed some guns that I did not see before.
