TFB Armorer's Bench: Commentary on The Marlin Model 60

Welcome everyone to the  TFB Armorer’s Bench! As mentioned in the little blurb below, this series will focus on a lot of home armorer and gunsmith activities. In this article, I had some rimfire stuff on my mind since Luke C reached out and asked if I could fill in on Rimfire Report (I unfortunately have been pretty busy). It made me think of back when I was going to school for gunsmithing and repaired my father’s boyhood 22LR rifle. I’ll save that story for a future Rimfire Report whenever I am called upon again but for now, I wanted to do a commentary article on the Marlin Model 60 series of rifles. All variations of it apply even my dad’s old Coast to Coast Model 40 that he asked his father to buy him in the early 70s. Let’s dive right into this Marlin Model 60 commentary!

H&K MR556A1 SBR From the Film "Zero Dark Thirty" Up for Auction

TV and film guns are always going to be popular collector’s items and while some of them are often creations directly from the bench of a deranged gunsmith, some prop movie guns are meant to be literal representations of real-world firearms. In this particular example on Gunbroker, we see an H&K MR556A1 SBR that is intended to resemble an HK416D that was used by the US Navy Seals during the raid on Bin Landen’s compound back in 2011. This firearm was converted for use with blanks by Point Blank Props’ for use during the filming of the movie Zero Dark Thirty, a Hollywood thriller based on the events surrounding the hunt for Osama Bin Laden. What’s cool about this particular collector’s item is that instead of its movie-ready black firing adapter configuration, this particular prop gun has been restored to work with live ammunition.

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is all about the rimfire firearm world and its many different types of guns, gear, ammunition types, and history. TFB Review: Bear Creek Arsenal BC-9 Side Charging 9mm AR

In recent years, 9mm carbines have been hitting the market in various styles, and the Side Charge, Bear Creek Arsenal BC-9 Carbine, is a unique offering in its own right. The BC-9 is based around the AR-15 style platform and accepts Glock pattern magazines, but as the title implies, the action is operated by a lever on the side of the gun, rather than the traditional AR charging handle at the top rear of the receiver. Let’s take a look at how this design stacks up as I put the Side Charge BC9 through its paces.
