Many of you are probably familiar with the X Products Can Cannon, an AR-15 upper receiver assembly that allows launching muzzle-loaded beverage cans using blank cartridges. At SHOT Show 2020, the company introduced the FORE golf ball launching adapter for the Can Cannon. The latest addition to this product line is the X1 Stand Alone Launcher. Let’s take a closer look.

Streamlight has one of the most popular lines of weapon-mounted flights currently on the market and this year they have been coming out with all sorts of new products. They recently released the TLR-10 1,000 lumen light that comes complete with an integrated red laser and rear switch options to match your shooting style.

Almost all serious precision rifle competitions make use of electronic target systems. Even the venerated CMP Talledega location makes use of electronic targets on their 600-yard range where competitions are often held. freETarget is an open-source program that allows the average joe to build his very own electronic rifle or pistol target right at home.

Securing valuables and especially firearms is something I have not given much thought to. While I don’t leave firearms in my vehicle overnight, there are times I am driving to or from the range and have to stop to get food or gas. Or like back on Dec 27th, my FJ Cruiser was broken into at a local gun range. I was one of two victims who had items stolen from our vehicles. Luckily for me, the suspect did not steal any guns. So I have been looking for a security drawer for my FJ Cruiser so I can lock up valuable items. While there are a number of options, I went with a SnapSafe under bed safe for my FJ Cruiser.

Choosing the right bipod and having a perfect height set just before a stage is quite often the key to success in a competition. One bipod isn’t enough to do everything you’re likely to require from it over a few stages. Shooting practical rifle and precision rifle competitions (in my case mainly IPSC, PRS and hybrids between these) for more than 10 years has “given” me quite a collection of bipods. I have stayed away from the “cheap and risky” ones, but there are a few from B&T Industries, Magpul and Harris to chose from at home. Some I have modified to suit my needs better. I even have one set with what used to be ski poles that can be used to shoot standing.

Align Tactical is a Texas-based company that has recently introduced its first product – an offset extended magazine release designed for SIG Sauer P320 and P250 pistols. What sets the Align Tactical magazine release apart from the other extended mag releases available on the market is that besides being extended, it has what the company calls stair-step design which diagonally shifts the magazine release button location towards the trigger allowing to wrap your primary hand higher on the grip, without interfering with the mag release button.

Heckler & Koch recently announced a few new models of their extremely popular VP9 pistol at GunFest 2021. With more options, the potential for more buyers and more customization increases. One of the most practical upgrades one might make to their VP9 is adding extended baseplates. Strike Industries has once again expanded their EMP line with the Extended Magazine Plate for Heckler & Koch VP9.

Firearm laser engraving is a burgeoning business. On a consumer scale, there are a few handful of FFL’s across the country equipped to engrave materials like aluminum, steel, and titanium. These services are provided mostly for the marking requirements for National Firearms Act (NFA) weapons like short barrel rifles (SBR’s) and Form 1 silencers. But as prices have dropped and technology has advanced, the use of powerful lasers in the gun world has exploded. I’ve said it many times before, but for me, cleaning guns went from being a peaceful Sunday afternoon to being an absolute chore in short order. Real Avid has been making great gun cleaning tools and accessories for some time now and has recently come out with their Foul-Out Gunk Blaster for cleaning and degreasing your firearm actions.

Meopta has just announced their new long-range rangefinding binoculars, the MeoPro Optika LR.  The MeoPro Optika LR binoculars will be available in 8×50, and 10×42 magnifications.  According to the press release, these binoculars are able to range targets up to 2,600 and 2,950 yards.  According to the specifications page for the 10×42 version, it has a field of view of 325 yards at 1000 yards and weighs 32.6 ounces without the strap and caps.  Meopta’s full press release can be read below:

The part is CNC machined, in a black melonite finish and supposed to work as a direct drop-in replacement. Once installed, you should be able to manipulate the slide release in an easier way.

Leupold Optics have just introduced three new binoculars to their BX line of HD binoculars, with different optical zoom options within each offering. One of the more unique models, the BX-T (T for Tactical) offers a Mil reticle to aid in ranging, be it for hunting, law enforcement or military applications, or perhaps even competitions that involve a lot of distance and movement. The BX HD series is billed as being extremely rugged, as well as allowing extra light transmittance.

Rubber bands serve many purposes, including powering some very cool “firearms”. Some jobs are even exclusively for rubber bands, like on a tattooing machine or launching small pieces of paper at your math teacher. Our elastic companions have also been used for several purposes in the gun world. Shooters use them to retain slings, keep thigh straps in place, and for cable management. If you’re like me you like to keep your firearms in tip-top shape and clean as a whistle. Although I loathe cleaning my firearms and view it as more of a chore rather than something actually enjoyable, I do recognize the need to keep all of your firearms well oiled and free from carbon buildup and other debris – especially your daily carry a gun. Photographing or filming through your rifle scope is a bit of a challenge. You can try and freehand your camera or smartphone but with small eye boxes and eye relief of most scopes, this makes it very hard to capture a good image.
