In this episode of TFBTV, James Reeves goes to the LWRCI booth and talks to an LWRCI engineer at the NRA Annual Meeting about their new and long-awaited SMG-45. The SMG-45 is a .45 caliber pistol caliber carbine or submachine gun that takes H&K UMP mags. And while the initial carbine will be available in .45, conversion kits for 9mm are on the way. While the $3,000 MSRP is a bit steep, this gun is built like a Rolls-Royce, and offers virtually every feature that one could ask for in a pistol caliber carbine. Is it worth the money? Check out this episode and you be the judge.

Below are pictures of a homemade submachine gun seized last month by the Municipal Civil Guard of Limeira in Sao Paulo along with cocaine base paste and marijuana. This illicit craft produced SMG model has been seized as far back as at least 2014 and has appeared more regularly in recent months. SILENCER SATURDAY #69: CZUSA Rimfire Suppressors

Good afternoon friends and welcome to our latest edition of Silencer Saturday, where all your suppressor dreams come true – well, except for faster tax stamps and over-the-counter NFA purchases. Looking at the episode number of today’s article and the title image, I can’t help but think that I missed a gloriously inappropriate innuendo opportunity. It’s probably for the best. On today’s 69th edition we bring you an initial look at the CZUSA rimfire suppressors and their unique baffle features. Time allowing, I’ll follow up with additional information after shooting a few thousand rounds.

SILENCER SATURDAY #68: Suppressing Kalashnikov Patterned Rifles

Good afternoon everyone and thank you for joining us for TFB’s Silencer Saturday. We’ll pick back up with the reviews next week, starting with CZUSA’s CZ Rimfire, but for this week I thought it would be a good idea to take a look at suppressing Kalashnikov patterned rifles. Full disclosure, while I have built a few Romanian AKs from parts kits, I’m not a Kalash expert. Make sure you consult with a competent machinist/gunsmith before altering any of your weapons to run suppressed.

Long story short, CZUSA Suppressors offer customers a modular setup with impressive suppression capabilities.

DIY Tubeless 300BLK Welded Suppressor – From Scratch

Tubeless suppressor designs are a relatively new addition to the commercial market. If you aren’t familiar with the process, professional manufacturers use programmable, radial welding machines that turn the suppressor and lay down perfect welds at a steady rate. The result is a precise weld that looks like it was made by a sewing machine. For example, check out this Dead Air Nomad:

SILENCER SATURDAY #66: VOX Versus Saker; Decibels For Subs And Supers

Good morning suppressor fans and welcome back to TFB’s Silencer Saturday, where taking the red pill means a life of silencer freedom and taking the blue pill means an unthreaded muzzle and blissful ignorance. Today we are wrapping up last week’s coverage of the Energetic Armament VOX – a virtually indestructible 7.62 silencer that is just over 12 ounces, capable of handling short barrels and heavy fire rates and costs less than $700. That combination is almost unheard of in the NFA world. But what about those pesky decibel numbers? Stick around for the full details below. Spoiler alert: I’ve already announced my intentions to purchase a smaller VOX K in the future.

Muzzle Your (Bull)Pup – OSS Is Now The Official Suppressor For IWI

If you haven’t followed our recent coverage of OSS Suppressors, the Millcreek, UT based company has undergone a near-complete transformation in the past few years. What used to be a hexagonal, multi-part suppressor that would confuse even veteran NFA owners, is now a sleek, round, one piece tube available in either steel or titanium and in multiple lengths. The centerpiece on the OSS design, the forward vents/ports, however, remain, acting to help eliminate the blowback pressure in semiautomatic firearms. Instead of forcing gasses back down the barrel, increasing cyclic rates and dirtying up the action, the OSS Helix design vents gases forward. And now IWI has seen the benefits of the OSS system, making the brand their official suppressor.

SILENCER SATURDAY #64: 5.56mm Allen Engineering Suppressors

Good afternoon friends and thanks for joining us once again for TFB’s Silencer Saturday. We have a special treat for you today: a comprehensive test of five of the most popular Allen Engineering Suppressors available. The M4S, AEM2, AEM3 and AEM4 respectively are all designed around the profile of the M4 barrel. As a comparison, we’ll test the AEM5 (MK12 Silencer) on the 18” SPR platform it was specifically designed for the U.S. Military. The setup should be familiar since we metered the .223 AEM5 alongside the .224 Valkyrie AEM5 about six months ago right here on Silencer Saturday. I’ve shot my fair share of suppressors and still believe that the AEM5 is the quietest 5.56mm option available on today’s market.

British Squad Firepower: The Bren Light Machine Gun

The Bren light machine gun was one of the more robust and successful light machine gun designs to see service in the Second World War among the Allied forces. During the war, it was even produced full scale not only in Britain but also in Canada and Australia where it saw extensive service with the forces of those countries. Derived from the ZB26 and ZB30 linage, it served at the “section” level within the British infantry. Even after the war was over, the Bren remained in service with numerous countries, rebarrelled to 7.62x51mm NATO (UK, Pakistan, India, etc…)

YHM ULTimate AR15 Upper Review – Subsonic 300BLK Metering

Hot off the heels of double Yankee Hill Machine silencer reviews this past Saturday, we are right back at you today with some 300BLK subsonic goodness. The YHM ULTimate upper receiver (“top end”) was announced in mid-October 2018, and since the government “processing” of NFA items like suppressors is painfully slow, even if you bought one right away it would still be sitting in your dealer’s safe. However, thanks to Yankee Hill and Silencer Shop, we are lucky enough to be able to give you a preview of sorts into this suppressed upper receiver for your AR15.

VFGs, AOWs, PSBs and SBRs: A Return To Understanding The NFA

In the past few years, we have drilled down into the netherworld of NFA laws, attempting to determine the subtle differences between short barreled rifles (SBRs), Any Other Weapons (AOWs) and simply firearms. We’ve also reviewed the new ATF accessory classification process and gone over the use of the ATF eForm system that anyone can use to apply for “makers” NFA tax stamps. So we won’t be rehashing every minutia of firearms regulations in the U.S. But let’s discuss pistols, rifles, short barrels and braces – a small attempt to understand the NFA.
