SB Tactical – SBA3 vs SBA4 – What Each Are Like

SB Tactical has become one of the larger brace manufacturers for the gun industry. They make braces for most of the popular firearm models available today. There are a few very common braces that are some of SB Tactical’s most popular called the SBM4 and SBA3. The SBM4 was a fixed brace that was one of the first popular style braces that SB Tactical made. In the last couple of years, SB Tactical came out with the SBA3 brace which was one of the first braces to be adjustable. Now two years later, SB Tactical has come out with the SBA4 brace which is essentially the adjustable version of SB Tactical’s popular SBM4 model. So what’s the difference between the SBA3 and SBA4? Let’s take a look at them.

Pawn Shop Steal: Customized CZ 75 B Omega Pistol

Have you ever seen someone snag a great deal and wondered what kind of perfect storm had to happen for it to exist?  TFB reader and Reddit user Zach happened across a CZ 75 B Omega pistol in a local pawn shop for quite a steal, at $280.  While it’ll be hard to match Matt E’s $49 Remington 870 pawn shop find, Zach’s deal is quite impressive given that a CZ Omega has a new MSRP of $587 according to CZ’s website.  Zach’s new-to-him pistol isn’t a new, off-the-line model, but even a lightly used example of a CZ would typically bring considerably more than what he paid.

Make a Factory Quality 9mm Rifled Barrel in your Kitchen Using Salt Water and Electricity (ECM)

Back in March 2017, I reported on a proof of concept attempt to create rifling grooves, essential to ensure stabilization of bullet, in a length of steel tubing using a process known as Electrochemical Machining (ECM). This was achieved using a simple jig designed using a 3D printer combined with copper wire laid into the ‘mirrored’ groove channels through which salt water is continuously passed through using an inexpensive electric pump and bucket set up. Essentially this process is the reverse of electroplating, instead eroding away an exposed surface, in this case, a series of shallow channels usually produced using a rifling cutting tool or by having a ‘button’ forced through.

Eliminate Your AR Build Worries with Rosco's new "Sauce Pack" Bundles

If you’ve ever assembled an AR at home you’ll understand how important part fitment is. If you combine your favorite parts from one company with your favorite parts from another company, they may not work all that well together. Rosco Manufacturing is here to eliminate those feelings of frustration.

3D Printed AR-15 .22 Caliber Upper

With the increasing popularity of 3D printed firearms, its no surprise someone has managed to finally print a working AR-15 upper. While 3D printed lowers are a somewhat common sight these days, uppers pose their own set of risks and engineering hurdles.

Pawn Shop Finds – The Deal of a Lifetime Remington 870 for $49.99

So since I posted my last Pawn Shop Finds article, I have been hitting even more gun shops around the state of Michigan. I’ve been looking for unique guns that catch my eye, but the only requirement is they have to be dirt cheap. I love roaming from various pawn and gun stores checking things out and sharing them on my social media pages. This trip was one of the best I’ve ever had since I started checking stores about six years ago.

Pawn Shop Finds – What Will $65.00 Buy You?

Recently, I have been accused of being an “elitist” and a “gun snob” in the comment section of various articles.  I will be the first person to admit I love my share of high quality and functional firearms. After some reflection, I figured I would go out of my comfort zone for the reader’s entertainment. I hit a dozen gun stores in search of the cheapest, cringeworthy, and downright interesting gun I could find. I will occasionally go on a gun store tour in my area and hit every gun store I know of in a 100-mile radius. It gives me a chance to talk with various people selling guns in my area and sometimes even gives me ideas for writing. This time around I took a friend and we decided to look for the cheapest option we could find.

TFB Review: Crosstac Precision Long Range Shooting Mat and Saddle Bag

With summer now in full swing, this is the perfect time to get out and do some long range rifle shooting.  Usually, this is where I find myself behind a cozy bench with a Range Safety Officer (RSO) nearby.  This is all good and fun, but it just doesn’t come close to shooting in the great outdoors.  Ditching a local range with its cozy bench is not without its downsides, and I quickly found myself in the market for a shooting mat and bag.  Lucky for me, Crosstac was willing to send over their Precision Long Range Shooting Mat and Saddle Bag Shooting Rest for review.

Blast From The Past – The Colt Double Eagle

In the early 90s, the gun world was about as stable as dating a dancer named Tiffany you met at the gentleman’s club on a Tuesday night. In short, it was a roller coaster time for the industry and times were slowly changing. Colt was trying to keep up with the times and as a result, the Colt Double Eagle series was created. Colt started producing the Double Eagle series from 1989 until 1997 when they shut down the line due to falling sales.

DIY: A How To Guide To Make Your Own Kydex Trigger Guard Holster

Some of you may recall I wrote a Concealed Carry Corner piece about Trigger Guard Holsters.  In that article, I mentioned doing a how-to Kydex article in the future.  Well, the future is now.  Also known as “minimalist holsters,” they offer a zero-profile way to secure that your trigger won’t get snagged on something in your bag, purse or inside the waistband.  The title image is of my daily carry Glock 22/27, however for this DIY pictorial, I’ll use the pictures I took while making a trigger guard holster for my friend’s Ruger LCP.

TFB EXCLUSIVE: Pre-Production Development of The CZ P-10 C – Part 3

The CZ  P-10 family has grown. CZ started with P-10 C and decided to expand the family to cover both subcompact and full-size guns. The CZ P-10 C is called a compact gun, but I like to consider it less than full size. It is bigger than a Glock 19, with a longer grip. It doesn’t quite fall into the category of a compact pistol in my opinion. I won’t lie, I do wish there was a slightly shorter grip version of the P-10 C, similar to what FN did with the 509M. CZ knocked it out of the park with their other two guns. The CZ P-10 F and the CZ P-10 S. This new family did come with some significant changes.

Weapon Light Choices – Push Button Activation vs Pressure Switches

I often get questions on my social media pages about Weapon Lights. There are a ton of variations on the market today and it can sometimes be overwhelming. The most asked question I get is what kind of activation is best when running it on a PDW or rifle set up? I usually start to inquire how they plan to mount and use the weapon light and go from there.

TFB FOURTH OF JULY: The Best Of American Guns And Gear

Finally, summer has arrived, and we can start the long slide from the longest day of the year down to the shortest. In the meantime, let’s all enjoy a nice dose of humidity, a helping of mosquitoes and those noisy pool parties put on by your idiot neighbor. “I asked you to keep it down, Stan!” Sorry, can you tell that I am already looking forward to the Fall harvest? Anyway, even with the bugs, heat and handyman projects, the Fourth of July is one of the highlights of the year. When else can you launch exploding rockets in your back yard? In the spirit of 1776, I thought it might be appropriate to suggest some American guns and gear that you can purchase leading up to our Independence Day – suck it United Kingdom. (Kidding, thank you for your friendship and support.)

TFB EXCLUSIVE: Pre-Production Development of The CZ P-10 C – Part 2

The P-10 C has drastically transformed since its pre-production model.  CZ considered comments and concerns from pre-production validators.  They did change some features that I personally miss.  They improved on others. I believe the pre-production P-10 C was one of the strongest pre-production guns I have ever handled.  Strongest in the sense that it was the most polished and finished of all pre-production guns I have been in contact with.  CZ really tried to produce an all-in-one perfect design, at arguably, one of the best price points. Certainly, the most bang for your buck, pun intended.

With the advancement of technology, weapon lights and lasers have grown in popularity over the last decade. This has grown to the point where holster companies have started creating custom holsters for all kinds of light and laser attachments. Both systems have applications where they can be incredibly useful. If used properly both can help aid shooters one way or another.

Red Dot Mounts – Why It's Important to Buy Quality

The red dot market is flooded with a ton of fantastic options to put on your rifle or pistol. Certain optics will have mounts built into the system like the Vortex UH-1 and Eotechs. Others will have factory bases that will mount the optic onto the gun. Typically factory red dot mounts are high quality but can be bulky and heavy depending on the manufacturer. The aftermarket community for red dots and optics has become a competitive market filled with good options that streamline mounts. There has been so much business with aftermarket optic mounts that companies have started selling optics without mounts so the user can save money and buy what they want.

TFB FIELD STRIP – The SIG Sauer P-Series Handguns

The SIG Sauer P-Series is one of the most iconic handgun designs created in the last 50 years in my eyes. It was also one of the easier systems to field strip and clean which a number of different handguns also use in today’s market. Once you know how to disassemble the gun, it becomes easy with practice. Here are the disassembly steps.

Red Dot Magnifiers – Are They Any Good?

Red Dots are a fantastic tool when shooting close to medium range.  There are a ton of people in the gun community who can reach out to 400+ yards consistently with a red dot; I am not one of those people and wanted the ability to reach out to further distances without having to break the bank or invest thousands of hours in improving a very specific skill. A real marksman would get to the range, hone his craft, and hit 400+ yards without so much as missing a beat humming the A-Team theme song.

Locally Made 5.56 Revolver From Indonesia

A specialty of local illegal gunsmiths in Indonesia for the last few years has been building these all-encompassing portable solutions for all conceivable encounters. Carrying them has become somewhat a trend with street criminals, the availability of ammunition likely down to the willingness of army personnel to be very accommodating when given the chance to be persuaded. For the discerning customer who wants the best bang for his buck, why advise settling for anything of the lesser, non-bottlenecked variety?

TFB Review: SIG Sauer P226 Elite – 10,000 Rounds Later

Over the weekend, I figured out I hit the 10,000 round mark with my SIG Sauer P226. It made me think about my history with this gun over the last six years, and how well it has performed. When I first purchased the P226, it was a basic Enhanced Elite model with the E2 molded grip. It had an SRT trigger already installed along with night sights and I couldn’t have been happier. Up until that point, I was carrying a P220 in .45 ACP for two or three years prior, along with an older generation Glock 19. The feel and overall layout of the P226 were great when I started carrying it. One thing I had to get used to though was the weight compared to my older Glock 19. SIx years later, It’s still my daily carry and has easily become my favorite pistol to carry and shoot.

AR Slings – Single Point vs Two Point

In the market today, there are almost endless options for slings and a number of larger companies that make high-quality functional AR slings. There are a ton of variants but I get the most questions about single point and two point slings. So we will focus on those for this article, but in the future, I can talk about three point slings and the value they bring as well. Each system has its own benefits depending on how you use the sling. Let’s dive in and look at how people traditionally use each style sling.

Concealed Carry Corner: All Season Guns VS Three Season Guns

When someone walks into a gun shop looking at their first firearm for concealed carry, it can be intimidating. The firearms market is full of great carry options for people. Over time people usually find what works best for them. When I worked behind the gun counter trying to help people find a concealed carry gun they were happy with, I always broke it down into two categories.

Walking Around LAAD 2019 With a Camera

When one walks around any large gun/defense/security exhibition, the variety of weaponry on display usually causes a mind-boggling effect, particularly when a camera is being carried by the person mentioned. You turn away from a particular stand or booth and have a glimpse of a gun-covered panel just past a massive APC (Armored Personnel Carrier) or radar antenna in the foreground. “Have I taken photos there?”, you may think. “Should I take pictures later or tomorrow?”. At night, when checking your camera card at the hotel, you start wondering “where the heck are the photos I’m sure I took of gun X in stand Y”?
