The Rimfire Report: The Discontinued (again) Springfield M6 Scout

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is all about the rimfire firearm world and its many types of guns, ammo, shooting sports, history, and more! Last week we got knee-deep into combination guns and their heavy use of 22LR. While we specifically took a look at the Savage Model 24 combination gun, we also mentioned the M6 Scout Survival Rifle or Aircrew Survival Weapon. This handy little takedown combination gun was issued to aircrews for nearly 20 years during the post-WWII years and has not only an interesting history but quite a lively secondhand market on auction sites like GunBroker.com. Today we’ll take a look at its history, and of course, check out what people who own these rare firearms have to say about them and their performance.

TFB Weekly Web Deals 73: Early Bird(shot) Christmas Shopping

Welcome to TFB Weekly Web Deals 73: Christmas is just around the corner and the more forward-thinking of us have probably already completed all of their Christmas shopping well in advance, and or are pretty much finished with it at this point. For the rest of us, we’re probably all still looking for things our friends and loved ones might appreciate this Christmas and that’s where we come in. This week and for the rest of the month we’ll be featuring items that can be useful as stocking stuffers or a last-minute gift for someone you might have accidentally left off of your list. I’m pretty sure that no one would complain about a sleeve of CCI Mini-Mags or even a single box of 9mm winding up under their tree!

Concealed Carry Corner: Everyday Carry Examples

Welcome back to another edition of Concealed Carry Corner. Last time, we talked about the most overlooked problems when carrying a concealed firearm. If you happened to miss that article, be sure to click the link here to take a look at it. This week, I wanted to take a closer look at three different people I know who carry concealed firearms but are drastically different from one another. Often times people think individuals who carry a concealed firearm are all the same but in reality, people can come from drastically different walks of life while still valuing their self-defense. Let’s take a closer look at some everyday carry examples.

Wheelgun Wednesday: Taurus Judge Home Defender or Fake Pretender?

The Taurus Judge, in my estimation, might be one of the most misunderstood, overhyped, and underrated revolvers ever made. Are they meant for shooting snakes in the South, or grouse in the sticks up North, or masked muggers in Chicago? Nobody knows. All of the above? This wheelgun can moonlight as nearly anything you want it to be, and that is why when I saw the new Taurus Judge Home Defender I chuckled thinking, “Here’s another meme version of the Judge.” Yet, the longer I ponder the efficacy of an absurdly long-barreled revolver that shoots shotgun shells I thought Taurus might be onto something. So, in this week’s edition of Wheelgun Wednesday, I am going to contemplate the question of whether or not the Taurus Judge Home Defender is actually a legit home defender, or merely a fake pretender? Let’s dive in!

The Rimfire Report: The Savage Model 24 Combination Gun

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report. This ongoing series is all about rimfire firearms, ammo, history, shooting sports, and more! Last week we got to talk about the really cool Iver Johnson M1 Carbine 22LR rifle. I was surprised to hear that at least one of you in the comments owned one but simply loathed that you couldn’t find magazines for it. The only reliable place I know to purchase magazines for that specific gun is from Iver Johnson themselves, however, the magazines don’t ever seem to be in stock and your next best bet is probably paying twice as much for one on GunBroker. This week we’re taking a look at another discontinued gun, that has seen modern variants rise up to take its place. I am of course talking about Combination Guns, specifically the Savage Model 24. This 22LR/.410 Bore combination gun has a rich history in both the military and the civilian world and lives on today in the form of the Savage Model 42 rifle.

TFB Armorer's Bench: Box Full of Gun Parts – What to Do

Welcome everyone to the  TFB Armorer’s Bench! As mentioned in the little blurb below, this series will focus on a lot of home armorer and gunsmith activities. Today we get to look at a box of gun parts and what to do. Last time around we took a look at the process of firearm conservation and resurrected an old Marlin A1DL. I had mentioned that it was a gun that was given to my grandfather as basically a barn gun.

SILENCER SATURDAY #305: Thankful for Great Suppressors

Good afternoon everyone and welcome back to TFB’s Silencer Saturday brought to you by Yankee Hill Machine, manufacturers of the new YHM R45 Multi-Host Suppressor. Last week we spent some time shooting the AAC Element 3 rimfire suppressor. So I guess I am thankful for my returning health.

Wheelgun Wednesday: Colt Python Combat Elite .357 Magnum 3″ S/S

Welcome back to another week of Wheelgun Wednesday, and before we jump into it, Happy Thanksgiving to everyone visiting TFB! For those who might be familiar with my participation in Wheelgun Wednesday, I’m addicted to double-action revolvers from Colt and Smith & Wesson like a straight-up junkie. I can’t get enough. Moreover, like a bloodhound on a trail, I am always hunting for more. Colt is definitely a company that you need to “hunt up” their new offerings because they don’t do a great job of updating what is for sale within their portfolio and what appears on their website. They have multiple models of revolvers that have been on the market for years yet are still not displayed on their website. All that being said, Colt has sneakily and rather quietly (yet again) released a new revolver that will likely be more readily available in 2024 than it will be this year. Their newest, soft launch offering is the Colt Python Combat Elite .357 Magnum in a 3″ Stainless Steel barrel.

The Rimfire Report: Iver Johnson's Rare M1 Carbine 22LR

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is all about the rimfire firearm world and its many different types of guns, ammunition, shooting sports, and history! It’s probably pretty obvious at this point that I’ve had a recent habit of browsing GunBroker.com a bit too much in my free time. Just a few weeks ago we checked out a pretty rare takedown rifle that may have been novel for its time but has since been surpassed by modern versions of the concept. Last week we talked about the really cool H&K P7K3, which all of you really seemed to enjoy. I actually share the sentiment that a lot of you had – H&K should really put the P7K3 back into production, or at least, give us a dedicated 22LR P7 that does away with the hydraulic buffer system altogether but still keeps all the other odd quirks of the P7. It’s probably too much of an ask, but a man can dream. This week we’re back at it again with another GunBroker.com auction that has since ended without being sold – this time the very rare Iver Johnson M1 Carbine 22LR – Iver Johnson’s dedicated 22LR replica of the .30 Carbine M1 Carbine first introduced to the US Armed Forces in WWII.

SIG P226 MK25 – A Retrospective

When it comes to iconic firearms, the SIG P226 stands out as one of the best wonder nines from the 1980s. Born out of the needs of modern warfare at the time and adopted by the United States Navy SEALs, the MK25 variation of the P226 handgun has achieved something of a cult-like following from both elite operators and people who have watched “Point Break” one too many times.

Thanks for joining us on TFB’s Wheelgun Wednesday, where we explore all things relating to revolvers. This week, we’re moving forward on our Revolver Cartridge Spotlight series with .22 Caliber Revolvers. We’ll take a look at the seven .22 caliber cartridges, their specifications, and some notable examples of revolvers chambered for them. In the .17 Caliber Revolver edition, I essentially covered all of the revolvers ever chambered for them, but as you can imagine, that won’t be happening for this .22 Caliber Revolvers spotlight. Let’s dig in.

The Rimfire Report: The H&K P7K3 – The Time H&K Made A 22LR P7

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is all about the rimfire firearm world and all of the different kinds of guns, ammo types, and history it has to offer us. Last week we talked a bit about the fairly rare Italian-made SM64 Takedown rifle. While the rifle itself is interesting, there are far better modern options currently on the market including one from Fletcher Rifle Works that we’ve been testing over the last couple of weeks. This week we’re taking another look at a rimfire gun I came across on Gunbroker, the H&K P7K3. Today we’ll take a look at this auction as well as what we already know about the P7K3, the facts surrounding this rare little plinker might surprise you even if you’re already a fan of the H&K P7 pistol!

So, let’s unpack how these two pillars of American life are woven together, creating a tapestry of patriotism and freedom that’s as vibrant as Old Glory herself and gear up the way our founding fathers intended us to.

TFB Armorer's Bench: Firearm Conservation – Back From The Dead

Welcome everyone to the  TFB Armorer’s Bench! As mentioned in the little blurb below, this series will focus on a lot of home armorer and gunsmith activities. I am stoked to finally be writing this article. This has been on my list since I was in school for gunsmithing. Today we are going over firearm conservation. This is a process of halting a firearm’s decay and slightly restoring it to what it once was. Just because a gun has turned into a boat anchor does not mean it is too far gone. Let’s dive right into bringing this Marlin A1DL 22LR back to life with some good old conservation.

Wheelgun Wednesday: Smith & Wesson Model 37 Chief's Special Airweight

If you happen to own a J-Frame, Airweight, or “snubby” revolver nowadays – whether it is a Smith & Wesson brand or not – you might not know where those popular, short-barreled wheelguns came from. While no single firearm can take all of the credit, the Smith & Wesson Model 37 can receive quite a bit of applause for growing the market to what it is today. So, on this week’s iteration of Wheelgun Wednesday,” we are going to take a look at a Model 37 Chief’s Special Airweight .38 Special that I recently acquired and examine the history behind this revolver.
