Federal Ammunition's New FireStick – Revolutionizing the Muzzleloader

I have to confess that I didn’t know that hunting with muzzleloaders was a thing, but it’s legal in several states in the United States and seems to be gaining in popularity. Federal Ammunition calls their new product FireStick, and describe it as a whole new chapter in muzzleloading technology. By the looks of it, the FireStick reduces the amount of steps you need to take to fire a muzzleloader quite dramatically. We got our first look at the Fire Stick back at SHOT Show 2020, check out our earlier article here.

Friday Night Lights: Infrared Tracers

We all know that tracers exist. They have pragmatic uses, especially when shooting full auto at night. When used responsibly they can be fun. However, tracers are really bright. They are like miniature flares. While they help you see where your rounds are impacting they have an opposite effect for those under fire. The recipients of your miniature signal flare showcase can see the tracers and figure out where they are coming from, assuming they didn’t catch the rounds first. Well, apparently there are such things as dim tracers. These infrared tracers are dim to the naked eye and really only show up under night vision. I ordered some and put them to the test.

An Open Letter: Ammo Manufacturers, Please List Your Test Barrel Lengths

As a consumer of commercially available ammunition, I’ve found that some manufacturers don’t care to list their test barrel length, which has at times, been a hindrance to my shooting experience. I would like to express my hope that all ammunition manufacturers will someday readily provide the information about what length of test barrel was used to help create the muzzle velocities boasted on the cardboard box of any given load.  Let’s look at some examples of where knowing the test barrel length could help a shooter.

TFB Review: Hornady .25-35 Winchester LEVERevolution – Antique Friendly Firearm Fuel

Federally speaking, firearms manufactured before 1899 are only regarded as antiques.  Legally, they occupy the same regulations as muzzleloading black powder firearms, meaning that they can be bought and sold without a 4473.  Just because a gun is old, however, doesn’t mean that ammo is impossible to find.  I recently acquired an 1896 vintage Winchester 1894 and needed ammo for it.  My general rule is “no safe queens”, and that includes an antique such as this.  In my search for .25-35 Winchester (WCF) ammo, I found that one of the easily available loads still being produced is in Hornady’s LEVERevolution line.

DIY 40mm Rounds? Loose Rounds Attempts to 3D Print 40mm Projectiles

It seems that Howard is in the process of trying to make DIY 40mm practice rounds for his launcher. Howard owns an M203 40mm grenade launcher, however, genuine practice rounds are no longer easy to come by ever since the ATF deemed them as Destructive Devices back in 2015.

Federal Wins Ammo Contract for US Army's Next Gen Carbine Program

The US military is constantly seeking to develop the next best thing in warfighting technology. Some of the most important pieces of this technology are our weapons systems. TFB has recently reported on some of these initiatives, like the new M110A1 Squad Designated Marksman Rifle, the Next Generation Squad Weapon program, and a potential heavy barrel upgrade for the M4. Of course, any kind of firearm, new or old, is going to have to have ammunition. In this realm, it is well-known that Federal is one of the best in the business. In addition to products like their renowned hunting rounds, every day carry, and target loads, they are also a major supplier of bulk military ammo. The 308 SCA Semi-Caseless Ammunition by Wild Arms Research and Development

Since the dawn of firearms, mankind has always sought to reduce the weight of the load on the bearer of the weapon. Jonathan at Wild Arms Research & Development (WARD) has taken another crack at advancing the concept of caseless (or semi-caseless in this instance) ammunition with his 308 SCA semi-caseless ammunition.

RCBS Announces Five New Reloading Kits Shipping Now

In the course of its 77-year history, RCBS has grown from one man’s hobby to a reloading industry leader. When varmint hunting enthusiast Fred T. Huntington began crafting dies just for his personal use in the back of his father’s Oroville, California laundromat, he probably didn’t imagine that in just five short years he would be running his own full-time shop. It would’ve been more unimaginable if he’d known that within ten years after that, he’d have to relocate to a 7500 square foot full-scale manufacturing facility that would eventually grow to over 50,000 square feet. With a series of continued expansions and acquisitions, RCBS now stands at the forefront of the reloading industry, propelled by three-quarters of a century of success. With the following July 22nd press release, they’ve released five new kits designed to be all-in-one solutions, to help simplify the meeting of their customers’ needs.
