This morning, August 14th, 2020, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has struck down California’s law against magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition. Those who have been following this case for some time may recall that back in March 2019 the Honorable Judge Benitez temporarily struck down California Penal Code section 32310. This is the section of California law that relates to magazine capacity limits. Specifically, it makes it illegal to have any “large-capacity magazine”.  Punishments ranged from a $100 fine per magazine up to a year in county jail. That ruling resulted in “Freedom Week”, also known as the California Airlift or the Great California Magazine Rush, before the ruling was stayed pending a hearing by the 9th Circuit.

One of my personal hobbies even before writing for TFB was looking at different products and seeing what works best for me at the range. Rifle magazines were one of the first products I really enjoyed buying to test out on my rifles and AR pistols. When picking magazines, it doesn’t always seem like an important piece of the puzzle and most people just buy a few to have back up magazines for their gun either at the range or at home. Now I know this isn’t everyone but some people think of magazines as an afterthought to the actual gun. Usually, new shooters will go into a shop and purchase a firearm without considering buying extra magazines for training.

Modular Driven Technologies (MDT) is known for producing high-quality gear for the precision rifle shooter. Their ACC chassis system, that is now available in the CZ455 inletting, is respected by precision shooters for being both feature-rich and relatively affordable as competition gear goes. MDT has just announced a small, but functional product that adds two rounds to AICS Magazines.

Xtech Tactical have announced a new version of their MAG47 AK magazine, introduced last year. They claim their new MAG47mil is ‘the strongest US Made rifle magazine ever made’ following extensive user testing.

As I said in one of our previous articles dedicated to the new AutoMag pistol, I really like the way Auto Mag Ltd. Corp. keeps us posted about the development of their ambitious project of reviving the pistol. They tell us the full story including the failures and issues they had during this journey of bringing the legendary hand cannon back. Moreover, not only they are bringing it back but they are improving the design to have a perfectly functioning firearm without any of the issues the original AutoMag had.

I often get questions from people about the best way to carry a spare magazine. I’ve struggled to find what works for me, but there are a few different ways of carrying a spare magazine concealed.  Before I started trying out different carry options, I use to carry a spare magazine in my pants pocket. This was never a great idea, and was always in a different position than when I put it in my pocket. The biggest issue with just carrying in your pocket is the fact rounds will come unseated out of the magazine. You’ll end up with a pile of random rounds in your pocket instead of being inside your magazine. And it isn’t ideal from a training or muscle memory standpoint either.
