Colt’s Manufacturing is in hot water: A lawsuit filed in the District Connecticut court by finance company Prestige Capital is targeted at the gunmaker, with the aim of recouping half a million dollars plus legal fees and interest over what the plaintiff claims was a breach of contract during the production of the Expanse Carbine. The suit follows Colt’s scaling back of a contract for the Colt Expanse, a budget priced Colt-branded carbine whose production was farmed out to Bold Ideas, also known as Colt Competition. Colt’s contract with Bold Ideas allowed them to scale back production of the rifles – originally set at 6,000 to be delivered each quarter – but required 60 days’ notice. According to a letter cited in the suit, which was filed at the end of June, Colt scaled back production to 2,400 units per quarter “immediately” in March.

Triggers are one of those hot topics that everyone likes to give their input on. Anything from “Back in my day, we only used mil-spec. And we liked it. Now get off my lawn…” to “My race trigger is so light it’s pretty much full-auto…” to “This trigger fires when you pull. AND release…”. There is also a wide variety of quality out there, from pretty much every manufacturer. If you find a brand you like, you swear by it, and snoot upon the others. Kind of like scopes. But I digress…

Right on the heels of the  Mapul PMAG 30 AK74 MOE magazine announced earlier toda y Magpul Industries Corp let loose another Facebook post announcing the shipping of another anticipated product, this time the Magpul UBR GEN2 Collapsible stock for the AR-15 platform.

Adams Arms announced the company is now selling its new P Series Micro Block piston systems for AR style rifles and pistols. These kits are designed to replace the typical direct impingement system common to the AR platform with a short stroke piston.

The folks over at Strike Industries have been putting in some serious overtime, it seems like they release a new product every week. That’s awesome though, it gives us something new to write about and share with our readers (keep em coming guys!). In the past few months there was the Megafin CA Compliant Grip, the  Advanced Receiver Extension, the  Viper PDW Stock, the  Latchless Phantom Charging Handle, the  Cold Hammer Forged Barrels, the J-COMP 2.0 for 7.62 Caliber AK Rifles, and the  G4 Slidecomp For Gen 4 Glocks. There’s probably a few other ones I’m forgetting. I actually just got the G4 Slidecomp, I only have a few rounds through it but so far I like it.

Oh yaaayyyy another California compliant product post, I know they’re probably getting old. Just move out of Commiefornia already! For those who can’t leave for various reasons another company has come up with a clever new product to let those stuck behind enemy lines enjoy their AR-15s. The folks at Survivor Systems just debuting their new Option Zero stock to help make your AR California compliant.

Go Outdoors Products is a Chino, California-based gear company that focuses on the shooting accessories and gear that make range trips that much more enjoyable and hassle free. The company has been around for a little while now, and much of their line of products has been out on the market, online, and in numerous gun stores across the nation and possible internationally too. So although they aren’t the next new awesome device or brand, they make products that in my opinion are very well thought out at the budget price you are getting them at.

As a fan of ambidextrous controls, I am always pleased to see when new products hit the market. With handguns going quickly full-ambi, I hope it’s just a matter of time until most rifles follow suit. Until then, companies like Forwarding Controls Design have been hard at work combining modern machining and ideas to half-century old AR-15s.

Phase 5 Weapons Systems Inc recently announced a new addition to its catalog. Called the Universal Mini Stock, the fixed length buttstock works with milspec sized buffer tubes and has a minimalist design.

Another company has come up with a solution for AR-15 owners in California, no it’s not move to a free state. Although that would probably be the better option. For those stuck in the Golden State this might be a decent option for you. Bear Flag Defense recently debuted their BF-10 AR-15 loader for CA compliant ARs with a fixed magazine. Instead of having to unpin your AR upper every time you want to reload, you load via the ejection port with the BF-10. Similar in concept to the Mean Arms loader we posted a while back. There’s also the Towle Fixed Mag System which requires you to break open the action but is still a faster process than loading each round individually.

So you want an AR-15 for hog hunting that can launch .40 cal (10mm) pills? This wildcat caliber might be what you are looking for. It is called .400AR and was developed for hog hunting. The designers had initial requirements to have the largest caliber that will allow having double stack loaded ammunition in magazines fitting into the AR-15 magazine well. They also wanted to have at least 2,000 ft-lbs (2,712 joules) of muzzle energy and be able to use one of common cartridge head sizes which would allow using an off-the-shelf AR-15 bolt.

When it comes to building an AR-15 weight is a factor I always consider. Unless you’re building a long range rifle that will only be shot off of a bench I believe lighter is always better.

Capital Armament or CapArms is an Iowa based gun and ammo manufacturer more recently known for their  $500 Titanium Magnum Rifle Suppressor (now $599). To compliment their titanium cans CapArms is now selling what General Manager Nate Rinehart is calling “an improvement to the traditional AR-15 carbine buffer system”, the CapArms Quiet Shuttle System.

At the NRA annual meeting, we got a chance to talk with the guys over at F&D Defense about the new XAR folding rifle that got me reasonably excited and it appears that many others are reasonably excited as well. I imagine that the guys over at F&D Defense have been flooded with questions about the new rifle prompting them to put together a FAQ to handle some of the questions.

It looks like Strike Industries is on a roll right now with yet another product they showed off at SHOT 16 becoming available for preorder, this time it is the Viper PDW stock. It looks like the stock changed slightly from when we last saw it on the SHOT show floor but the concept is very much the same.
