AR-15 Buffers Explained by Small Arms Solutions LLC
Chris Bartocci of Small Arms Solutions LLC has released a video, where he reviews the different types of AR-15 buffers. He discusses the evolution of the buffers in chronological order. Starting from M16 buffers and the first appearance of bolt carrier group bounce issue all the way to 9mm buffers. There are also a couple of experimental unicorns in the video such as the Colt’s prototype hydraulic buffer which never went into production. He also tells about the possible dangers and malfunctioning issues in different climate conditions when using improper buffers.
AR-15 Bullpup Conversion by Center Balanced Systems
Center Balanced Systems is working on a prototype of a bullpup conversion for AR-15 style rifles. The bullpup rifle is called CBAR. Anytime you hear the words “AR-15 bullpup” the next logical question is “what will they do with the buffer tube?”. In the case of CBAR, it is left as is. The buffer tube goes over your shoulder and the actual stock which contacts the shooter’s shoulder is in the area where AR-15 pistol grip is normally located.

Sneak Peek: Strike Industries AR-15 Magazine and a New Muzzle Device
Strike Industries has shown on their Facebook page first pictures of a couple of new products. One is a new AR-15 magazine and the second one is a muzzle device called “Oppressor”. There is very little information available on both products. Here is what I could find:
Exile Machine AR Shotgun Stock Adapter for CA AR-15s
Remember Exile Machine’s revolver conversion kits for the AR-15? Well they have a new quirky AR-15 part out that allows you to attach a Mossberg 500 compatible stock onto your AR-15. Their new Headbutt Adapter attaches to an AR lower’s pistol grip attachment point and you can then attach a Mossberg 500 shotgun stock to the Headbutt Adapter. Why in the hell would anyone want such a device you ask? California and their logical politicians in Sacramento that’s why. New legislation that will go live in 2017 will force Californian AR-15 owners to either register their ARs as “Assault Rifles” or go featureless. The pistol is grip is one of the evil features and in order to go featureless you’ll have to ditch the pistol grip or find a work around.
Review: The .25-45 Sharps: Cui Bono?
Variety is the spice of life. In the firearm industry, there is a hell of a lot of variety when it comes to cartridge selection, particularly out of the nowadays ubiquitous AR15 platform. One of the newer cartridge choices for medium game hunting out of the AR15 is the .25-45 Sharps. For in-depth analysis on the .25-45 Sharps cartridge, including the the providence of it’s rather unconventional nomenclature, Nathaniel F. has written two articles on the subject that can be found found here and here. Sharps Rifle Company was nice enough to send us one of their uppers chambered in this caliber for testing, along with some of their 87gr loads with Speer Hot-Cor SP bullets.
Crux Ordnance Muzzle Brake Review
Crux Ordnance has recently released their first and only muzzle brake. Referred to as the CruxOrd Muzzle Brake, it is advertised as being the “most advanced muzzle brake on the market”. Patrick R. recently published an article introducing the CruxOrd Muzzle Brake to the TFB community. This article will follow up with a more in depth review.
LEAKED: New Timney AR-15 Competition Trigger
Not long ago TFB was offered the chance to go on a media tour of several manufacturing facilities in the Phoenix area over a three day period. When Phil called me about it I quickly jumped at the chance, after all, who doesn’t love learning how much love goes into a product. We will have several posts covering the tours and a range day where we got a chance to shoot past 1100 yards!
Gift Idea: AR-15 "Build Box"
I am sure I mirror many Modern Sporting Rifle enthusiasts in my zeal to maintain organization. After years of builds parts can scatter to the organizational wind. Putting together new builds was becoming frustrating, especially with the variety of MSR parts to review. Handguards, pistol grips, and other items were donned and doffed with regularity. Trying to keep track of it all was a nightmare, especially with my building location off-site from my home. One missing part, and a return trip was required.
